We could have an ellen sighting in philadelphia tomorrow. The mystery tweet that has a lot of people in our area on the lookout for the daytime talk show host. We continue our celebration of womens history month, and this weekend youll get a unique opportunity to help find your voice. Michelle lawrence is hosting the finding your voice workshop this saturday. Michelle, thank you for being here. This workshop, tell me the age range of the women who will be participating in this. So were looking at women from 20 on up. I dont even know the scale of the oldest woman that will be attending, but if youre 20 and youre available on saturday, by all means, come in. If youre 60 and youre still in search for your voice, come on in. Im certain the 60yearold can impart wisdom to the 20yearold and the 20yearold can glean some things from the 60yearold. You had 27 years i believe in the banking industry. You worked for wells fargo. What do you think is the biggest mistake that women make in the workplace . They shrink back. I would say more times than often they dont take enough confidence or use their confidence to say i bring value, and my voice needs to be heard at the table. Not just around some of the women issues, but around all issues. When you know what you know, as my grandmother would say, you can create space at that table and then listen. Ask the right questions. Then put your voice in the room. When the value is added, its a difference for the company. Its a difference for the community. And thats what women need to do. Remember they need to be heard and theyll add value. As we were sitting during the break before we came on air, you mentioned something to me. You said, women need to learn how to elbow their way in, right . Yes. Got to learn how to do that. Yes, yes. Sometimes youre sitting at the table, and ive sat at many tables where it is predominantly men. Youre not at the table as a guest. Youre at the table as a peer. Thats why youre there. Sit up at the table. Make your presence known. Have your hands in the position that says im ready to add value. I can contribute. I make a difference. Let me give you my perspective. It may be inserting your voice while other conversations are happening. Not to be rude or disruptive or aggressive, but to simply put your voice in the room and say, let me share my thoughts on that or what outcomes are looking for in that. Thats a nice segue and entry into how youll share what youre thinking. It seems like what youre telling me is finding your voice as a woman is also about what your communicate by just your posture. Absolutely. Its confidence. If you get there and its, well, im just so excited to be here as opposed to, no, im here because i deserve to be here, and its not an arrogance, but it is a confidence. When you exude that, people want to know what you have to say. And so when you begin speaking, they begin listening. Or better yet, when you continue to add value, youre sought after. Questions will come to you. Yeah, make some elbow room. Do you have a specific message or is a lot of this for the next generation of women that are coming up, the 20yearolds who will be there . Do they need to hear this more than folks that are a little bit older . I wouldnt say the 20yearolds need to hear it more. I would say it is for everyone. Finding your voice is not limited to how old you are. It is about the experience and the confidence you exude. If youre 20 and struggling with confidence, yes, we need you in that room. What i would tell the 20yearold is be willing to learn and listen. Then when you do speak, youre speaking from a place of knowledge and a place of confidence. Where you lack knowledge, you also lack confidence. Then when your voice gets heard, its not something thats adding value. I know i keep saying adding value, but thats the difference maker in the room. Whether youre a man or a woman, the value add is the difference maker. Heres what were expecting. Were at 46 right now. Winds dont become a problem. They stay right around 5 to 15 miles an hour, but we do warm up. 51 by 2 00. By 5 00 p. M. , up to 58 degrees.
