This is video from the national wall. Here in our area students treated veterans to breakfast this morning. Students were able to talk to veterans about their experiences and thanked them for their service. One of the biggest veterans day events is about to begin in Delaware County. Pamela osborne is live with a preview there. Reporter it will kick off at 11 11. Well show you the crowds of people that have already gathered here. They of course are hear to honor the men and women who have served our country. The state of pennsylvania there are nearly 940,000 vets living among us. We spent the morning talking to people who were out to show their support and appreciation today. Take a listen. I enjoy seeing all of these vetera veterans. It is very patriotic. A 17yearold recovering after being shot in philadelphia. She was shot running away from a man who try today rob him last night. He made it home where police found him. Right now he is in stable condition. Philadelphia Police Investigating two crime scenes in oxford circle. This is the second. Police say a man was shot in this white car about a mile from this gas station. Police are searching the car and this shooting scene and they continue to look for the shooter this morning. The victim is in the hospital and is expected to be okay. American flags are waving thanks to a windy morning. This was just a short time ago. Erika martin is here with todays forecast. You can see the southbound lanes right here all blocked off except for this right hand lane and right hand shoulder. It looks like they are stopping traffic to allow some of the emergency vehicles to move past the scene. On the southbound side we are seeing delays. There is a disabled vehicle but lanes are still open. 18 minutes, adding about 5 minutes to your drive right now. Also a different part of 95 on the southbound side approaching the Scudders Falls bridge. There is also a clearing of an accident at hatboro. Remember delays heading southbound. Traffic moving towards 95 will see some of those delays. A salute to veterans. Today the ice rink will open for business for the first time this year. The rink opens at 11 45. Veterans and active duty members skate free. Some protests turned viol t violent. A new comment about all of the protests against him. And later the damage left behind but you wont believe the culprit who was responsible for this mess. Another night of protests. Sheer video from just a few of the cities, denver, minneapolis, washington, baltimore and new york city. In Portland Police say it turned into a riot situation. This video shows some 4,000 protesters filling the streets in the beginning then things turn unruly with people smashing store winds. Police say protesters also tried to take over an interstate highway forcing officials to shut down a portion of that road. This person hit an electrical box. You can see the sparks flying. Hundreds of people marched through center city. Earlier in the day the coalition g. O. P. Hands off me held a vi l vigil. They say no arrests or violence reported. Around 6 30 this morning president elect trump says love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country. We will all come together and be proud. He tweeted professional protesters were being incited by the media and it is unfair. He had great chemistry. The two sat together inside the oval office. Mr. Trump, a long time denier of the president s american birth who have called trump unfit to be president had a cordial meeting. It sounds like the meeting might have been at least a little less awkward than some might have expected. Melania trump toured the east wing and mr. Trumps soninlaw was seen walking with chief of staff. The trumps met on capitol hill and they got a look at where president elect trump will be sworn in. President elect trump laid out his priorities during his visit. He said expect immigration reform, Health Care Overhaul and more jobs. It is unsure how it will work with trumps immigration policies. How do the most poor and vulnerable members of the Philadelphia Community deal with whatever those changes end up being . New jersey could end up with a new governor if Chris Christie gets a new cabinet job. As for delaware the states Banking Industry leaders are monitoring how a trump economic plan and deregulation could provide a boost for them. Im erika martin. So it is going to be a monumental event. And youre an air force veteran. Youll know these veterans, what it means to have this shout out. Absolutely. As young man over 20 years ago that served in desert storm and was there as a psychology specialist. So we got a firsthand look at, you know, some of the fallouts from war and helping some of our young troops adjust to the challenges that they faced, you know, in war. So it opened up another world to me. It is a big adjustment back in civilian life isnt it . Yes. When you returned you suffered a serious injury yourself. Ironically i rurnd home from war and i was shot and paralyzed from the waist down here in philadelphia. It may sound like a tragic story but it has been a very positive outcome. Again, that opened up another whole community to me to those who are disabled that they can overcome their challenges, as i have. And you a big smile on your face. Hey. You work with 6ers and young people. Yes. There are a lot of similarities between returning vets and some of the children that reside in these under served communities and thats trauma. So we really focus our coaching and training around trauma sensitive strategies. And, you know, as well as our vets. When you approach it from an emotional standpoint it is easy to connect with them and get change started. Thank you for being here. Thank you for your service. Youre very welcome. A marching band is coming down the street here right now. The crowds you see here stretch down at least four blocks. Parade goers clapped and cheered a thank you for their service, a small gesture for the men and women. All of that stopped as taps were played. Veterans here as well. A man on a 10,000 mile trek is in our area today. Matt delucia caught up with he roy bailey early this morning. Bailey has been Walking Around the perimeter of the United States for about two years now. He says he is motivated to help Homeless Veterans because he was left without a place to live at one point in his life. He is raising money to create hope center. Hope center is where people can go and stay and get their lives back together. We have to help the veterans. He will continue onto his hometown of virginia beach. He hopes to get back there before thanksgiving. A special honor from montgomery county. We got this of 108yearold bill moore from the veterans Day Breakfast at the white house. Community members honored him yesterday. Surviving world war ii veterans in the country. Today volunteers are pickfi up the home of those with disabilities. They are repairing stairs and replacing floors. The veterans you see here has diseases that limit his mobility and breathing. He served in the army in the 1970s. A wild fire in northern georgia continues to spread fuelled by drought conditions. It started by a Lightning Strike almost a month ago. You can see thei have smoke covering the area in this video. We are a volunteer organization consisting of over 14,000 established women of color. We were founded here in philadelphia by Margaret Hawkins and sarah scott. It has grown from 90 members in 1946 to over 14,000 members today. Across the country . Across the country and in the bahamas. We are international. How are you influencing the next generation . Yeah. In a number of ways, one movement in particular we adopted the schoolgirls so that we follow them and we prepare them for careers. We have a very robust scholarship program. We follow our young people through college. Today is an appropriate time to talk about our work with female veterans. We have a partnership with Community College where we work with women who are coming back to transition them back to civilian life. It is something that is so incredibly important when you think about the fact that philly has more than 8,000 female veterans. So we really take our civic responsibilities very seriously with our young people trying to guide them off to college and staying in touch with them for the long haul and doing all kinds of educational programs.
