It is, a music and arts festival, vai. Its important to us that we keep that music alive. Now, this festival is, again, the third year. Its still relatively new. What kind of response, the feedback from those who come and participate or are just there . The community loves it. I mean, we get not only people from haverford township, about half of the people who come to the festival are from the immediate area. Others know some of the bands on the bill, they may have seen them at the philadelphia folk festival or a venue elsewhere and come for this day that only costs them a 3 donation at the gate to join us. Seems to be getting some buzz in the Music Industry as well. Not that im tapped into it, but my sense is because youre getting great bands that are coming. Absolutely. Hes in the middle, reunited with his friend, rick dugan sitting to his right, and also with us, medal of honor recipient barney barnum. Thanks to all of you for being here. This is a pretty fascinating story. Barney, tell us about the gathering of heroes and why this is such an important event . Its put on by the marine corps Law Enforcement foundation. We raise money for scholarships. For children of marines and policemen who have lost their lives in this war on terrorism. So were gathering today to have a good time, camaraderie, show our patriotism, love of country, and raise money for their children. You know, the children are the future of our country lies in their hands. Theyre the next future leaders. Absolutely. So were doing the right thing at the right time for the right reason at the irish pub. Chicky, i want to ask you this. Your story is so fascinating. You snuck back into the war zone to do something really amazing. When i saw the story, it reminded me of private ryan, only with beer. Tell us a little more about what happened, chicky. You know, its living in an irish neighborhood in the northern end of manhattan, and i walk through central park one day, saw a demonstration against the war and against the gis over there and continued to the neighborhood, went in a pub, and the guys had it on tv and were talking about it. We just all agreed that its a shame, demonstrating against our boys. Somebody said, what can we do . We got to do something. We dont want to go down and start a brawl. Somebody said, i wish i buy them all a beer. I said, i can do that. A merchant marine. Ant seaman, but i had been in the marine corps four years before that. I had been to vietnam three, four times before that, and i knew enough about it, knew the military lingo. So i said, i can do that. I didnt think i could do that, but i said i could. Then the next thing i know, one of the guys Tommy Collins who is here with us today, he, his mother came to the bar. She came down, chicky, youre going to go see my tommy, with an irish accent . She tried to give me 100. I couldnt take it, that would cost me my life, i knew it. The next day i went to the union hall, got a ship from new jersey, amship. Only place going in that year was vietnam, so i got on it, jumped ship, and got you took beer with you on the trip. There was always beer on ships. Sort of like a tradition. Rick, youre over there, and he shows up. What was your reaction . And he brought warm beer. You still drank it. Well, everything was warm there. Canteen water, everything. I was in total disbelief. I just, i was in shock. I just what are you doing here . And he said, i was in the neighborhood. I thought i would stop by and buy you a beer. And what he accomplished is amazing. How he got to find me in the desolate area i was in is its a miracle. Not to mention the lies you had to tell just to get in there. Exactly. Right . Had to be creative. Hes good at that. Theyant lies. They were military lingo. There was no retreat. There was a strategic withdrawal. That was not a lie, either. Well, you guys are absolutely terrific. Were proud of you. We appreciate your service to the country, and what an amazing thing to go back there and find your buddies just to bring them a can of beer. They can have some beer tonight if they come down to the irish pub and contribute to this charity. There you go. Here are the details chicky just mentioned, heroes later on today.
