Reporter vai, that just wrapped up. I can tell you we have now learned the identities of everyone involved here. And sadly it includes a 16yearold pennsauken High School Student. He was struck just before midnight last night about 11 23 in the southbound lanes here along route 130 as he jumped over a median. We also know that the woman who was behind the wheel is still being questioned by Pennsauken Police here this morning. Nbc 10 was there overnight where it happened at route 130 southbound at 49th street. Police say turner jumped the median on this busy route 130 when he was struck. His body was thrown into the burger king parking lot. Investigators say 40yearold susan highland was behind the wheel. She was driving her nieces car with her niece as a passenger. And when they didnt stop, they continued on their drive to camden. Heres how police say it played out right after that. The owner passenger in this car, the 19yearold of pennsylvania, she felt guilty and she decided to place a 911 call to central communications. The driver was unaware that she was placing this call. She was upstairs. She disconnected the call because she thought she was being heard overheard. Reporter and police went onto say that Camden Police pinged that cell phone call, they contacted pennsauken and investigators here went to camden. They caught the driver as she tried to run from the back door of a home on clinton street in camden. She is charged with driving on a suspended drivers license as well as leaving the scene of a deadly accident. The owner of that car, the 19yearold who lives near harrisburg in pennsylvania, police are crediting her for doing the right thing. She is not facing any charges whatsoever. A man hijacked an airplane this morning and everyone who was onboard is safe. The egyptian forced the cairo bound plane to land in cyprus. They say the man wanted to speak to a woman in cyprus that hes in love with. The hijacker reportedly claimed to be wearing an explosive belt, but an official said the mans belt had no explosives in it. Most of the passengers were let off after the plane landed, but the hijacker kept four crew members and three passengers onboard for several hours before giving up. Reporter well, vai, good morning. That driver is a 40yearold woman from beverly, new jersey. Her name is susan highland. Were told she was driving her nieces car to camden along southbound route 130 when this happened this morning. She is still inside being questioned as we speak. Highland, police say, never slowed down or stopped the car after striking a 16yearold boy who was crossing route 130 at 11 30 last night. Instead, they say she left route 130 southbound at 49th street despite her niece was a witness in the passenger seat, and she drove to camden. The victim was lying in a parking lot of a nearby burger king. He had been thrown by the impact of the crash after police say he jumped a median to cross the street on his way home from a friends house. Police say the niece, highlands passenger, was a key witness leading to her arrest. After the collision, she was in shock pretty much. And when they went to camden, in this house in camden they were talking over what the plan was, what the game plan was, and brianna finally just broke away from everyone and said, you know, i got to call the police. She did the right thing. Reporter Highland Police say they tried to run out a back door of that camden home. With this summers Republican National Convention Still months away, some in cleveland are expressing concern about safety. Theyre concerned about the states open carry laws, and the citys unwillingness to share its security plans with Civic Leaders and police union. Nbcs tom barris has the details. They havent taken any measurements. This is not one size fits all. Philadelphias mayor is responding to a threat by taxing limo drivers. The drivers claim Ride Sharing Services like uber x and lyft are unfairly taking business from them. Those newer Transportation Services are technically illegal in the city. Limo and taxi drivers who have protested since december want uber x and lyft drivers to be regulated the same way they are. Its a big event with a lot of people in the city. And i dont think the people will be walking away with their opportunity to take advantage of those economics. It will shut down airport, train station, everywhere. The citys calling for new state legislation on regulating ride sharing. And state lawmakers want to test the water in all schools in new jersey, but its not going to be cheap. Theyve introduced legislation to foot the 3 million bill. Money set aside for lead prevention was used on other projects. They say the flint, michigan water crisis and high levels of lead found in the Newark School system prompbted the plan. What we found out in this process is there really isnt uniform across the board to tell what to do. It would reimburse local governments for the twice a year testing. Governments say they will address the larger more expensive problem of replacing pipes once they get the results of those tests. In the Lehigh Valley weve learned the Allentown School district has started testing for lead at two schools. The district made the move following a report from a Lehigh University professor about unsafe lead levels. School district officials said its not clear if proper testing was done. For now theyve closed water fountains in the schools and theyve made bottled water available. The nbc 10 investigators are running a weeklong living with lead series. Today the focus is on philadelphia and taking the citys Health Department to task. Theres a law in place to get rid of some of the lead, but we found no one is enforcing it. City Council Last Night amended a noise ordinance to make it stricter, but one Council Member questioned the impact. Whos going to enforce this . We have to hire somebody who has special training, special training, special equipment. We dont even have this. The new ordinance bans excessive noise from cars, music, equipment or people. Police will give you a warning during the day but can instantly cite you for nighttime violations. And camden based soup maker campbells is giving its soup a makeover. It will remove the chemical bpa from its cans by the middle of next year. The company says its making the change to reassure consumers worried that bpa may increase their risk of cancer, brain damage and hormonal problems. Federal officials maintain bpa is safe at the current levels its used in food packaging. Its going to be really chilly by tomorrow morning. 70s are going to be returning this week. The cold weathers not going to last very long. A lot of blue in that sky right now. And the visibility is great. The wind 21 gusting to 32 miles an hour. And the temperature only 52 degrees. The average high 57 for this time of the year. We got up to 70 yesterday. 57 degrees today. And near 60 tomorrow, but with much less wind. So it will feel more comfortable. Then it jumps up to the 70s by thursday.
