The police, that gun was loaded, it was aimed at the police, there were approximately six officers or more on the scene. But six officers did fire their weapons. They believed that they were in eminent fear of death or serious bodily injury. They returned, they fired. The gun was pointing at them at the time they were firing. And at that point in time the individual after the shooting the one individual was taken he had a the passenger had a wound, a minor wound to the ankle. And finally, his probably most recent conviction is a robbery out of the city of philadelphia which was a felony in the Second Degree where he received three to six years in the State Correctional Institution and was currently on parole when this occurred. He was also convicted at the time of the robbery of persons not to possess a firearm. He was a convicted felon and should not have had a firearm on his possession. Did your childhood or teenage dreams of being the next Jimi Hendricks fall by the wayside . If the guitar you dont use is collecting dust in your basement, our next guest would love to get her hands on it. Karen is manager of an organization that collects new or gently used guitars and passes them onto musicians in need. Karen, thank you for coming and joining us this morning. Tell us about the people that you help and how you help them. Well, we call this effort guitar days. And its a component of our Overall Organization which is set up to help new jersey musicians 25 years and under. We saw there was a need for some kind of basic things. And we came up with the idea to begin this initiative to correct like you said underused guitars that are getting dusty in the corner. And got a little lonely and they need to be played. So about a year ago we started this initiative to collect them and put them in the hands they got some frustrated musicians like myself get frustrated and put it in the corner. I hear that a lot. Some of these musicians must make a name for themselves at this point. Well, mostly theyre kids. And kids in need, you know, cant afford them. Or, you know, the schools arent offering the music programs like they used to. Yeah, cutting because of budget restraints. Uhhuh. So since guitars seem to be the thing that you could carry around, move around, fix easily, that was one to store easily as we collect them we have a place to put them all. We find the recipients and they can be on their way. I was asking during the break if its just guitars. I looked on your website and so are they just guitars . Or are they looking for other instruments as well . Right now just guitars, however we are currently talking with a local boys and girls club who collects all kinds of instruments. So were setting up to partner with them to do the guitar component. Karen, what is it about music that is so helpful for kids . My suspicion is is that kids who learn how to read music probably do much better in school and other aspects in their lives. Im sure thats part of it. I always think especially in the terms of guitars that that guitar is your friend. Thats your buddy. You spend time in your room playing, taking it places, its your friend. Of course music is a universal language and it has to be beneficial in all areas of your life. Yeah, i dont think times have changed that much. Taking a look at some of the people who have benefitted from the guitars. But i dont think its life has changed that much from when i was a kid. I think the cool kids then were playing guitars and the cool kids now are still playing guitars. So tell us how our viewers can support your organization. Well, we have a little effort going on called give a little bit. When you go to our website thats going to be the first page that you see. Were asking for 5 a month to celebrate our fifth year.
