This year, we expect to have about 100 participants, just as last year. This is the fourth year of building adventure and the funds that are raised help to serve public and Charter School students on Outward Bound signature programs across the city and region. So, folks are actually vying for a spot to raise the money to be able to do this, give a little training . Of course. What does it take . Like all Outward Bound courses, we dont want to put people into un situations were where they would be terrified or panicked so we do a little training on the site before you hook into the rappel station. And the staff that run these programs are wonderfully trained, very experienced, very skilled. And all of our participants, including the mayor, this is his fourth year of going down, will rappel from the top to the bottom. It is 418 feet. And its a fun thing and fun for folks who havent been able to be part of that kind of thing before, but tell me how that experience ties in with what you do every day. Well, the reality is that when we take a group of students, we take groups from schools during the school year on multiday expedition programs. They can go backpacking or canoeing and they are always coming together and recognizing that they are about to do something very different from what they normally do. They are taken by then out into wilderness settings with two outyard bound trained instructors with them the whole time that they are out. We provide all the gear and equipment and these students learn how to Work Together as a team. They learn how to protect and feed each other and stay warm and dry. And they have a wonderful adventure that helps them recognize theres more of them than they thought. Well, this is certainly an event here that we are going to be seeing coming up.
