The worst of the rain isnt threatening the neighborhoods now. Some showers could pop up this evening. And roads are still wet. This is a live look in wilmington. We are bringing you Live Team Coverage tonight. We begin with glenn hurricane schwartz with more. As you mentioned heaviest rain is long gone. Its out into the ocean. There is still a fairly large area of light rain over philadelphia area and northern delaware and parts of south jersey. One little area of heavier rain just south moving straight to the east. Thats not in the area that got hit hardest. Heaviest rain off of cape may, off of delaware beaches and it is gone. Its not coming back. There still are flood advisories across a good bit of south jersey and delaware and that will continue for the next several hours because of the rain that has just been so much of it. It will take a while to get totally gone. You can see this narrow band of very heavy rain, not a whole lot in philadelphia area. Not a whole lot farther south. Radar estimates of five to six inches of rain. Parts of Cumberland County and in central delaware. Thats moving out. Ill tell you when the weather is going to get really nice again coming up. Heavy rain falling in margate earlier this afternoon. A few minutes we will go there live where the rain is bringing more trouble for the dunes there. Tonight philadelphia sports fans are remembering one of the most beloved phillies ever, Darren Daulton. The all star and world series champion died yesterday at the age of 55 after a fouryear battle with brain cancer. The man known as dutch was the teammate everyone respected and the player all phillies fans adored. Daulton played 14 seasons here and led on the improbable run to the 1993 world series. Like so many people she first liked him for his looks but got to know him over the years through her work with local charities. She says daulton donated many items to numerous causes. Her basement is a shrine to all phillies sports teams but dutch has his special area on the wall. He was so young. It just is a bummer. She says friends have been texting her all day with condolences. Fans have been sending us pictures they took with daulton over the years. Lauren mayk spoke with some of daultons fans who had a special connection, a shared experience. Karen and tony have been phillies fans for decades. They saw Darren Daulton play the magical season in 93. Remember how crazy that was . Reporter when karen learned he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It hit me hard. Reporter she invited him to a walk called race for hope and he came joining survivors like her. There was a tumor the size of a tennis ball. Reporter she has a different kind of tumor but knew about daulton. Difficult to treat, often deadly. We refer to them as the beast. Reporter the challenge for doctors isnt how it grows. It is a circle in the brain that is easily picked out. Reporter he says survival rates have picked up but hopes to see them higher. Cases like daultons can raise awareness. The Silver Lining of someone of that public profile who dies thats the real Silver Lining that you can raise Public Awareness and attention. Reporter karen is making it her mission to get the word out about all types of brain tumors. I dont think the general population of the world gets it yet. Reporter karen has had two surgeries. Her tumor came back once and she knows what she calls her life long adventure is not over. Once diagnosed with a brain tumor it is a life long adventure. You never free. You are never done. Those School Districts received subpoenas asking about Employee Health insurance coverage. We told you they have been sent to employees. Officials are investigating whether the employees may be involved in Prescription Drug insurance fraud. Tonight President Trump is monitoring the north korea threat. The nation said it is ready to teach the u. S. A severe lesson if Nuclear Force if washington takes military action against it. This comment comes two days after United Nation approved new sanctions against north korea for escalating its nuclear program. The penalties cost north korea more than 1 billion. U. S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson offered north korea one way to escape these harsh sanctions. The best thing that north korea can give us that they are prepared would be to stop these missile launches. President trump is demanding sanctions be implemented quickly. A new federal lawsuit claims it is illegal for the u. S. Government to with hold grants from sanctuary cities like philadelphia. The city of chicago filed a lawsuit against the Justice Department. The suit argued it is unconstitutional to with hold Public Safety grants from cities that wont completely comply with federal immigration agents. The Justice Department will have the opportunity to respond to this lawsuit. Tonight the city of philadelphia tells nbc 10 it is reviewing chicagos suits and evaluating options. One pennsylvania lawmaker wants to protect you from being forced to get a microchip implanted in your skin. Representative tina davis plans to introduce the bill. It would make it illegal for employers to require employees to have microchips. This bill comes in response to a Wisconsin Company implanting microchips in employees on a voluntary basis. New jersey is officially the garden state tonight. Governor Chris Christie signed a bill to make that the states official nickname. It is one of 50 bills christie signed today. Tonight the rain hitting the jersey shore is causing more problems for margate beaches. Heavy rain left standing water filled with bacteria at the dunes. Todays rain is causing that water to fill up once again. Nbc 10 jersey shore reporter Ted Greenberg is tracking the problem. Reporter real sense of day juview. Thanks to todays heavy rain large ponds of water have returned to margate beaches where new dunes were built this summer. Water covering sand once again making access to the beach difficult. As we first told you thursday a superior court judge granted margates request and temporarily shut down the beach protection project here until at least this friday. The judge told attorneys to come back to court with solutions on how to prevent these drainage problems which margate predicted in its unsuccessful legal fight to block the beach project. For many here todays flooding just adds to their frustration. Pretty much doing the same thing it did the last time, starting to pool up there. Its basically ruining our summer in terms of being able to come down here and relax and enjoy the beach. Going to give us issues until they take the dune and cut it back, take the sand that they took for the dune and put it back to where it was. Reporter despite the project being halted im told contractors will pump this water towards the ocean just as they did last week. Wind turbines very still after the wet weather we had earlier today. Some families think they dodged a bullet with todays rain. Burlington city got hit with major flooding four days ago. They were still soaked when it started raining today. Cydney long shows us how they prevented a repeat situation today. She joins us live with more. Reporter i want to show you the difference between a twohour down pour that we saw last thursday night and todays all day light rainfall. No flooding here. We are just left with these puddles and ponding. The rain all but stopped about 4 30 this afternoon with no major problems. Not since severe flooding in the 1980s has Burlington City endured flooding like it did last week. Storm drains were not able to take that water in that short period of time. Reporter dozens had to be rescued. Several car engines ruined. Basements are still not dry. We had water. So it knocked out the hot water heater. Reporter continued and steady rain officials took every precaution. Crews cleared storm drains of old debris and by the soggy grass at kennedy park retention basins were lowered by a foot. Came off the lake and couldnt see it in the grass. Reporter officials spent the day on the ready. This is where all the hub bub is. Reporter watching sky and radar in the event they needed to activate emergency operations. Lighter rainfall over longer period of time will not strain ant quated top technology. They can go down at any time. If the water goes up we can be in flooding conditions. Reporter so resident pleads to Mother Nature may not be falling on deaf ears this time. Stop raining, please. We have enough. And for those who suffered flood damage to their cars here in this Dunkin Donuts parking lot or homes. They will share that Information Online residents hoping now for dry and sunny conditions. Strong rain responsible for this mess. Look at this. Officials say a possible tornado caused that damage. The rain that drenched us today is part of the same storm that triggered a tornado in the midwest. More than two dozen people were injured in tulsa, oklahoma when three tornadoes barrelled right through. At least 30 people were injured some by flying debris and others by collapsed buildings. Officials say the storm hit so fast they didnt have time to sound the warning sirens. I am in awe that we are alive. I thank the lord because this is just i have never seen this in real person. You see it on the movies. Its really bad. More than 10,000 are without power. Lets bring in glenn hurricane schwartz. The worst of the rain is over for tonight . Absolutely. We are not seeing significant rain until the end of the week. We may see some more significant rain at that time. We saw quite a bit in central delaware, parts of cumberland keebt. You can see it lining up late this morning and into the mid day hours and then it has continued to progress out to sea. This is just lighter rain. You can see across the philadelphia area. The areas around the jersey shore. It was only an inch and a half of rain that caused that flooding today. Bad news for them. Inch of rain does happen from time to time. We have one little area of heavier rain down near the maryland border. Otherwise things have really quieted down. This zone here, that is where the heavy rain came. North of it less than an inch, way less than an inch. South of it less than an inch. Right in this corridor we have had radar estimates in the dover area of three to four inches. Up to six inches in parts of cumb cumberland kecounty. That is too much. We continue to see flood advisories from dover and also in the areas in new jersey from the flooding from the rain that has already occurred. The ponding of the water will take a while to come down. This is future cast. You can see clouds linger but the rain not around. Then another batch comes through tomorrow morning perhaps during the morning rush. A little bit heavier rain in the areas that do not need it. We are not necessarily totally done with it. It is only in the 60s right now across much of the area and that is about as warm as it has gotten. It is going to warm up. We have three dry days in a row. The only exception is at the jersey shore where there will be some of that rain tomorrow morning and also delaware beaches. Even though areas really get nice for a couple of days. Dutch battled his fouryear fight against brain cancer with a lot of heart just like with his playing career. He was a gamer, battler, the unquestioned leader of the 93 phillies. Here are former teammates talking about the man dutch was. He was a better looking version of john wayne. He was a mans man. He was a leader. There is no way the 93 team is what it was without him. We may have been different people but at 7 05 every night we had the same exact goal and making darren proud was one of the things i aspired to do when i mayed with him. Because we have different fathers and mothers i wish everyone playing today could have had a teammate like him and experience what i got to experience with him for six years. Dutch will be missed.
