We begin with tim furlong live at the scene. Reporter we just had a short while ago with a briefing that the guy was illinois was living in alexandria. They need to know what made him snap today in this park. E he shot this video from behind a trash can. Sheltering in the child care center. Reporter republicans were at the baseball practice say the gunman was out looking for them. Jeff duncan says hodgkinson e made sure he was at the right field. He asked me if this team was republican or Democrat Team practicing. I responded that it was the Republican Team practicing. And proceeded to shoot republicans. Reporter ultimately Capitol Hill Police officers part of Steve Scalises security detail took hodgkinson down. Colleagues and aids were yelling at him to get down and stay down as he crawled for the outfield. He was coherent. He was asking for water and obviously he laid out there on his own for ten minutes. Reporter once they were sure the shooting was over, everyone on the field got up to help those who couldnt help themselves. One of our staffers was bleeding from his leg. So he said he was okay and i said youve been shot. Youre not okay. Reporter that staffer will be okay. You can see as you come back live, police still on the scene here. A democrat and republican just put out a joint statement saying the ball game is still going to be played. They want lots of democrats and republicans to come out to National Park for this game. They also say they want the president there. They say it would be a good way to show some unity in the wake of this tragedy. Tim furlong, nbc 10 news. Reporter thats right, and then we headed here to capitol hill where lawmakers came back to work today. There are two republican lawmakers from our area on that Republican Team and neither one of them was there today, but one of them tells me that he just missed his 6 00 a. M. Ride with another kmab or congressman or have been. Congressman costello says he practices with the team three days a week when congress is in session always at that field. And he says e he plays shortstop. The congressman shot plays second base, right next door to him. So given what we know about where the gunman was and where he was shooting, it is hard for him not to think about what could have happened. Thats a scary thing when you realize because im a member of congress i could have been on a baseball field where somebody would have just did what they did. Not an easy day hear. Not an easy day for me. Its not. Its not at all. Reporter it is emotional. Members here are shaken up and congressman costello telling me that he understands when somebody disagrees with him on a a vote, but that is policy and he hopes that people will remember that they are all human beings. Good evening, live outside the courthouse where jurors asked the judge two more today. Were going to get to what they asked. They wanted to rehear Andrea Constands testimony, in particular the portion when she described the counter with bill cosby and what she told police about the incident. They also wanted to rehear testimony from the first detective to interview cosby. Deanna durante is joining us live with more on these questions tonight. Detective Richard Schaffer was on the stand for quite awhile during this trial as both a prosecution and defense witness. What the jury wants to hear is his interview that he did with bill cosby in a new York City Law Firm after Andrea Constand had reported to police he sexually assaulted her. Thats where cosby told investigators they have had numerous romantic encounters and he gave her three blue bills to take. E he told them they were benadryl and after that interview, he supplied investigators with some cut up benadryl tablets and other medications. One for Blood Pressure and one herbal. The jury has not reheard that tl. They will after they eat dinner. They also wanted to hear Andrea Constands own words, what she said on the witness stand. How she said she went to cosby home and they were talking about her career and life and he gave her three blue bills. Both have told the jury in their own words in one way or another that the activity did. Happen in the home. There was sexual activity. Cosby says it was consensual. Andrea constand says it was sexual assault. Thats what the jury is still struggling with tonight as they eat their dinner and continue to deliberate the fate of the 79yearold comedian. Reporting live, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. Theyll go back into course to hear more. But im joibed by an expert. They are asking for large portions of testimony to be read back to them. Does that tell you nig . Does it speak to how well they listened during the actual testimony or common for jurors to want to hear it again . I think its important to notice what they are not asking for. They are not asking for any testimony from the expert testimony or any of the other people. This case from the beginning was labeled as a he said, she said kind of case. At this point in deliberations, all the questions seem to be focused on what did Andrea Constand said and cosby say. It seems as though the jury has disregarded all the other information that came out and concentrating on those two things. We dont know how many are still in e need of being convinced way or the other when they hear this testimony read back to them. I believe that. I also think the longer this goes on, its probably more of a win for the defense. The longer that the jury is out, there must be reasonable doubt somewhere here because theyen havent come back with a decision at this point. The long er it holds out, the better it is for the defense. We should point out they havent said to the judge we are dead locked or having trouble reaching a degs. So the process b continues. Update us on any further activity whether its another jury question or a verdict. To this now, deadly Workplace Violence in San Francisco today. Four people were killed in a shooting a ups warehouse. An employee opened fire before shooting himself to death. You can see as other employees filed out of building to safety. A new jersey doctor now at the center several criminal investigations says hes staying in jail. A judge ordered the doctor to remain behind bars until a dehearing on monday. Kaufman is accused of waving a gun when investigators served a search warrant yesterday. The warrant is not related to the 2012 unsolved murder of his wife. The doctor maintains his nebs innocence. Hes destroyed. Hes very upset and thinks hes being unfairly accused of things. Unfairly investigated. And everybody has a breaking point. Prosecutors call kaufman a danger to himself and others. Another day in court for Philadelphia District attorney seth williams, but this time hes at the defense table. His corruption trial is set to begin in a few days. Today williams lawyer and prosecutors worked out the final logistics for trial. Its expected to last about one month. Nbc 10 in north philadelphia a pregnant woman was shot in the dorway of her bedroom today. That Woman Told Police she heard a noise down stairs in her home around 2 30 this morning. When she walked out of her room to see what was going ob, she stau two men who had kicked in her front dor and shot the woman in the leg before taking off. Shes expected to be okay. Investigators expect to find more victims in the burned out building. The smoke and flames were just too intense for firefighters to reach anyone in the top ten floors of this building. There was no Sprinkler System inside and only one stairwell was accessible to residents. And that inferno in london similar to a deadly highrise fire in philadelphia 26 years ago. The meridian fire led to drastic changes in how highrise fires are attacked and prevented. Randy gyllenhaal spoke with firefighters who were there and has life saving advice for anyone who lives in a a tall building. Reporter terrifying visuals, the highrise consumed by fire and smoke. Those images a vivid reminder to firefighters here in philadelphia. They are just a tough fire to fight. Now the citys deputy fire commissioner who back in 1991 battled the infamous meridian fire, a highrise Office Complex near city hall that went up in flames killing three firefighters. A fire thats burning thor floors is labor intensive. Reporter the e meridian fire was a a lesson that sprinklers should be in every highrise building. All new construction whether its Office Residential has to be sprinklers on all floors. Reporter residential highrises are popping up left and right. All of them will have modern state of the art sprinkler and alarm systems, but its up to the residents to study their specific buildings evacuation plan. Early warning is krcritical any fire. Its extremely critical in highrise fires. Pat invested the fire he says the best advice is if a fire breaks out, get into the protected stairwell where rescuers can find you. When the alarm system activate, they have to respond to it. They are built in such a way they are impenetrable. Reporter witnesses report people trapped in their rooms, some even forced to jump. And then it starts going up. And its not just the temperature that goes up. The humidity too. Big time. Below normal temperatures through friday as you saw. The wet period starts on friday. We dont have to worry about tracking any kind of showers or storms tonight or tomorrow. And over the weekend we will be tracking showers and storms. Steamy and stormy for the weekend.
