Some call it the best tour you can get of the city. Nbc 10s George Spencer joins us live along the ben franklin parkway. The marathon means a lot for the city. Reporter it really does, jacqueline, and this race has grown tremendously over the past 20 years or so. They are expecting some 60,000 spectators out here on sunday morning showcasing the city before a national and international audience. Along the parkway now lined with barricades, runners will begin and end their racing challenge, but along the way on the course that winds across center city into University City and along the schuylkill river, some 30,000 runners get a streetlevel view of the city phillys become. You see everything good in the city. Its like the perfect tour. If you could take a tour of the city, thats what youd want to see. Reporter mark has raced in every philly marathon, sunday will be his 22nd. The race has grown tenfold since he started in the 1990s and has become a spotlight on the city. This is really a pinnacle event in the running community, you know, philadelphias now on the mark. Again, the reemphasize of the point philadelphia is a big city that does big events well. And the road closures start in a few minutes on the parkway. The inner lanes of the parkway will close at 6 30. The added security means the citys no parking regulations will be strictly enforced. His Campaign Says an event he has tonight in New Hampshire is being rescheduled because of trouble christie ran into in san francisco. His flight was delayed and searched while on the ground there because of a suspicious passenger. The passenger was detained and the plane eventually took off. Christies Campaign Said the passenger never posed a threat to the governor. Now to the deadly hostage standoff in the west african country of mali. The violence played out inside a hotel. The temperature is just crushing here, and so it is going to be a very chilly evening and a pretty cold weekend, as well. Imagine youre at home sound asleep when burglars strike. Tonight, theres a crime alert in haddonfield, camden county. In the past few days homes have been broken into on rods avenue and maple avenue and beechwood avenue. Cydney long joins us live from haddonfield tonight. Reporter this was definitely a crime of opportunity, they say the Common Thread is all the homes burglarized were unsecured, so this crook climbed in through a window or back door and they believe he may also be hitting homes in nearby burlington county. Desperate people do desperate things. Their guard up and eyes open for any suspicious activity. Police say a lone intruder found his way inside of at least three homes in the dark of night early thursday, breaking in uninvited and stealing valuables while residents were sound asleep. When you hear somebody enters the home people are sleeping, hows that feel as a dad . As a dad it definitely triggers that protection instinct. Reporter father kyle daley is double checking his locks and alarm. Police say in part the mild and sunny nonfalllike weather may be a factor in these crimes. Its been warm lately, so everybodys still having a tendency to leave windows open and just make sure when you do, have the make sure all the locks are relatched. Most of the time the burglars are nonconfrontational, so for them to opt a residence where its quite obvious its occupied, even if they are just asleep, is very unusual and does, obviously, raise the reporter the detective believes a rash of burglaries in morristown might be related. We compare notes, talk to each other about different m. O. S, different ways the burglaries have been happening, different times of day, the whole gamut of scenarios. Reporter and because the victims of most of these crimes were sound asleep, police have only a very vague description of the suspect from a single witness saying he was 58 wearing a bright white sweatshirt and black pants. They say photos were shared through a dropbox full of pictures of female students. The dropbox had a mix of current students and graduates of plymouth whitemarsh high school. Police say its too early to determine if charges will be filed. They say the dropbox is now removed and officials are working to identify all of the students involved. The hotel chain says someone managed to get debit and credit card information from people who ate and shopped at 54 of its hotels. One hotel is right in our area. The Sheridan Hotel was breached from last november to may of this year. Malware was found in Payment Systems in multiple locations inside hotels, but not at the front desk where guests pay. Hackers saw names, numbers, and security codes on those cards. Wilmington, delaware, dubbed murder town usa. We have a little bit of an eruption, the colder winds starting to come in during the day today, setting us up for a chilly weekend, especially the second half of it and then monday. And the thanksgiving forecast, not going to like that part. Weve got clear skies out there, have had it all day after all the rain yesterday. 52 degrees, winds really diminished down to 8 miles an hour. Relative humidity 23 , which is exceptionally low, and thats helping the temperature drop. 39 degrees in pottstown, in the 20s before day break and many of these other areas that are in the 40s now will be in the lower 30s by morning.
