Its not just the rain that people are worried about. The National Hurricane center is showing people how dangerous the storm surge from harvey could be. This picture shows their office only 1 feet high. The storm surge forecast is up to 12 feet. The message for people tonight, dont mess with this storm. Meteorologist erika martin has a closer look at the havoc it ream. Very quickly, elevation along much of the shoreline is less than ten feet. It looks like the winds have increased to 154 miles per hour. Those are sustained wind speeds. Notice this at the surface, were noticing movement northwest at 10 miles per hour. The pressure was at 943 millibars now at 941 millibars. This is strengthening very quickly. Hurricane harvey is very dangerous, catastrophic, if you will. Heres why. In addition to the fact it will make landfall, it will continue to work around the gulf coast feeding off this warm surface thats exactly the feel it needs to stick around. Really not budge at all. I expect it to hang around between 72 and 96 hours when its all said and done. By tuesday, its still going to be a tropical system because it has enough fuel here to continue to be a tropical system even ob tuesday. This is how strong Hurricane Harvey is. We saw a sign on a business just down the road here that said that open until all the letters on the sign blow off. Police got the report yesterday and now they are looking into weather that graffiti is linked to that. Somebody spray papted racist messages on this van here in wilmington on wednesday. Police do tell us that this is a hate crime. In delaware county, an update to a story e we brought you as breaking news at 4 00. Crews are still battling the smokey Apartment Fire in sharon hill. The latest update from firefighters is that the building has been evacuated. This video is from sky force 10 over that fire an hour ago. We have a crew there. Aundrea clinethomas reported there were no injuries. Everyone made it out fine. Well update you with new information as soon as we get that. A woman was able to fight off a man who police say tried to drag her into an empty lot wednesday night. Take a look at this video here. Police say this was statake b moments before the attempted abduction. The woman in the video had just gotten off the bus at broad street when this guy approached her. After ignoring him for awhile, he grabbed her and tried dragging her toward a vacant lot. She got away. Its not far from temples campus and students we spoke with say you have to stay alert. Once you clear your voice, then it will tell you youre ready to start your car. Reporter unless youve been drinking. This is the alcohol base that youd hit that and it blows alcohol into your unit. If youre a first time offender and your blood alcohol is. 1 or higher you could either lose your license or youll have to use one of these interlock devices designed to keep drunk drivers stalled. Hurricane harvey is expected to take a toll on gas prices along the east coast. Thats because some refineries are expected to close until the storm passes. That could disrupt gasoline supplies. That storm creeps closer and closer to that coast. Look behind me. This is massiveness of this storm. It is extensive essentially 565 miles wide. Twice the size of the state of pennsylvania. What you need to know as far as Hurricane Harvey is concerned. It is still a category three. Its strengthening. Its affecting miles of the texas shoreline and thats really important because a lot of the elevation along the shoreline is less than ten feet. Thats on top of the waves. Expected landfall around high tide. Somewhere around midnight is what were expecting. Up to three feet of rain already seeing some tornado watches and warnings reported. Already saw a tornado reported in galveston. It looks like this will stall out for the next several days. And by next week it will still be a tropical system. Hurricane harvey category three. Lets watch how it loops around and hangs around the texas shoreline around the gulf coast and doesnt move very much. We have an area of High Pressure to the north keeping everything pretty much stable and stationary and this is pretty much going to be a huge problem for texas in the upcoming days as we progress and continue to track harvey. Here tracking harvey locally, we can see that ridge will break down. As it does, its going to allow moisture to move into our area and that will allow some rain to move into our area by next week. Its not going to be a huge wash out. But we do have remnants of harvey affecting us here locally. Were going to see 70s and sunshine. Very comfortable conditions. They left on buss from texas and are heading to shelters in san antonio heading north. Many say they didnt want to risk it and they wanted their pets to be safe as well. Should the truck be deployed to go down and help out. The traffic is pretty bad right now. They are bracing for harvey. We are expected to get 10 to 20 inches of rain. Elaine is is north of where the storm is predicted to hit. People are flocking after safety and philadelphia volunteers and rescuers are heading doin south too. They are in the hands of the federal government once they leave us. The government has activated 28 National Response teams from firefighters and emts to people who specialize in water rescue. The Fire Department has more than 40 members on standby who do that work and dont go to the the red cross is starting to calls of folks look for help. We have started to receive calls from those who ent cant have the capacity to leave their homes. Alerting them where help is need ed. After budget cuts, former band director just decided to push his retirement up and get out. That was bad news for students. It got worse as band camp rolled around and the kids didnt have anyone to lead it. But you can see and hear the bands on. Band is like a family. Like most of your friends are in band. They put out the word they were holding practice. We didnt have anything prepared. We were going to do some basics and show up. Show up they did. Almost the entire band on day one. On their own the band practiced marching. Everyone bought into the plan and lots of folks in the community and university of delaware helped out too. By the time mike archer was hired as the new director, the band was already where it should be. What these two particular students have done is really nothing short of exceptional.
