Its been lingering over the spots that had the most rain yesterday. What youre seeing here is some light spotty showers moving through parts of philadelphia and south jersey, but really the focus is the tail end of the noreaster. This is the back side here. You even see yellows and oranges showing up on radar. Thats a spot where theres a steady downpour again. This is not a good spot for it to be falling, but its cutting through parts of Mercer County and bucks county. Burlington county, then there we go right along the shore points through ocean county right near toms river getting a pretty good hit now. This is not as heavy or steady or as long lasting as yesterday, but its still rain adding fuel to the fire of areas that have seen damage. This will linger a few more hours before finally the center of this system can move far enough to the east that it takes the rain with it. Were looking at temperatures that are pretty chilly as well, too. We got cool yesterday in the afternoon and we didnt warm up a ton today. 43 in philadelphia. Were at 41 right now in allentown. Good news is you can see the winds are now coming in from the northwest. Instead of pushing in from the southeast, which was forcing that onshore flow and leading to some of the coastal flooding. You compare these temperatures to what feels like outside, its still chilly right now and the temperatures are dropping about were at 33. The feelslike temperature in wilmington. And also right near freezing in trenton. As you get out, youll want the jacket. Throw it on as well as if youre in new jersey some rain gear. So heres what were looking at tonight. The road to recovery for a philadelphia sheriffs lieutenant hit a huge milestone today. He is back home tonight nearly six months after being severely injured in a center city elevator accident. Sheriffs lieutenant paul owens was surrounded by his family and his colleagues as he left the Rehab Facility he has called home since august. He was riding in an elevator at the criminal Justice Center last august when the elevator catapulted up through cement barriers. Owens was severely injured. He remained paralyzed from the waist down. Just trying to get back to regular life. Its hard but, you know, just part of the process. We got a long way to go. But i got this far. Investigators are still trying to figure out what caused the elevator to malfunction. And a lawsuit was filed on behalf of owens. George spencer is here with a copy of that suit. Youve been reading over it. This 22page lawsuit really outlines both the companies and the agencies which owens and his lawyer believe are responsible for that elevator malfunction. The suit names the Property Management company, various elevator Maintenance Companies and even a city agency. It calls those defendants negligent, careless and reckless. The filing describes how the elevator owens was riding in crashed at a high speed through the ceiling and into a Maintenance Area of the cjc. Owens lawyer says his client now faces a life of medical care. He went to work one day, did what he always did, rode the same elevator that hes always rode, pushed a button and the next thing you know his life is changed forever. And he wasnt able to walk out of that facility. And that attorney believes this is a multimillion dollar case when you add up the medical bills, the lost wages and the cost of refitting owens home for a wheelchair. We reached out this afternoon to the various companies and that city agencies that are named in the lawsuit but we did not hear immediately back. I know youll stay on top of that. Absolutely. Just a moment ago, its not for the most part a heavy rain like we saw yesterday, but i do think these are Little Pockets that actually do have some strength to it. Unfortunately this area seeing another good dousing right now. This is one of the zones that yesterday had one of the highest rain totals. A spot had 3 inches by the end of the day. Theres a closer look right near toms river. This will pass on through, then it will move off shore. But whats happening here is the backside rotation of that storm center of the actual noreaster. The system will continue pushing along to the east and that pull this rain out as we go through tonight. Just going to take some time throughout the next several hours. It was a miracle that the two of them were standing in what is now their crushed master bedroom when the noise of the tree crashed into the house, it sent them running. On two hours sleep this morning they told me they feel fortunate that no one was hurt or killed. With heavy equipment including a crane, bucket, harness and hours of precision, tree removal crews were diligently and delicate not to cause any more damage to this haddonfield home. We heard this crazy crashing sound. Reporter the home of dana reganata. She was home alone when i thought i heard like a low thud. She said the ground must have shifted due to heavy rains and wind. I shined the flashlight. I could see that our fireplace was cracked and leaning towards the house. But the tree was still upright. We are still seeing rain move through the region tonight. Lets get an update on the neighborhood forecast. Heres krystal klei. Were looking at a good amount of rain although most of it is light or moderate rain passing through our area. This is the back side of that storm system. So noreaster not entirely through with us yet. You can see the storm center thats well off and away from us now. The back side is pulling in these extra bands of rain. You can even see them driving in snow in parts of the poconos and right now temperatures just a little too warm for anything to actually stick. The rain is making it to the ground, passing through Mercer County and Burlington County and ocean county down through atlantic county. So unfortunately these are spots that got hit hardest just yesterday with the coastal flooding. We zoom in choser here and we take a look at the spots in the yellows that are passing through. These are spots where its a little more moderate. Steady rain that is falling. This is all dropping down to the southeast. That will be moving out. But the bands of rain will linger a few more hour of the night before they shift off overnight. Current wind gusts are still up as well. Theyre coming from the northwest instead of pushing in from the southeast. Thats a good thing for coastal spots because of the threat for coastal flooding and high tide occurring right now not going to be the same because of that change in wind direction. Now a light to steady rain. Our suburbs, philadelphia and into new jersey as well. Delaware mostly in the clear at this point although light rain starting to creep into new castle county. Look up to the north. We see snow thats actually making its way to the ground in the poconos. Were on the back side of the noreaster setup. You can see its rotating around this collection. Thats slowly going to be pulling farther and farther along to the east as the system moving out tomorrow night. Until then well deal with some of the rainnd the pockets of hev rer rain that are trying to develop. And then its more of that steadier rain thats tracking along the shore down to cape may county. Good news is this will be out overnight. Bad news is this rain is just adding up to the ponding that we already do see in some of our shore spots and the coastal flooding that was due to strong winds that we saw. The winds will die down overnight as well. We really need to focus on parts of berks county and the lehigh valley. Temperatures right now are too warm to see snow. Were at 38 degrees and as we move into the lehigh valley, same thing. Mostly upper 30s to right around 40 degrees, bethlehem and white hall right at 30 for the current temperature. Look at the temperature trend yesterday we had a high of 46. But that was it right before 2 00 a. M. In the morning, then the temperatures started to slip in the afternoon as the rain was moving through. Today we made it to 46, but that was in the afternoon that we actually saw it. Now to a surprising revelation today from Sports Reporter and tv host erin andrews. She revealed in a Sports Illustrated interview she battled Cervical Cancer. The 38yearold had surgery in october and again in november to remove the cancer. She was diagnosed after a routine checkup last summer. Andrews also revealed she wont have to endure radiation and chemotherapy as part of her treatment and shes now cancer free. Andrews told the magazine, quote, everyone kept telling me youre so strong for going through all of this. Finally i got to the point write believed it, too, end quote. And erin andrews is telling her story just as doctors have learned new information about just how deadly the disease can be. Its a little bit higher than we think it had been in the past. Brandnew Research Finds that not only do more women die from Cervical Cancer than previously estimated, it hits africanamerican women harder. Ten women in 100,000. In the white populations, its more like five to six women in 100,000. But a gynecologist that specializes in Cancer Treatment says pap smears and other screenings are highly effective at catching the disease early before it becomes dangerous. At stage one, we have 90 to 95 cure rates, but if its caught at later stages, its much harder to cure. Unfortunately, half of the women who die from Cervical Cancer have never had a pap smear. Even so, dr. Hultz wants women to know that their personal risk for the disease is likely very low. Most cases are linked to certain types of the human papilloma virus or hpv. Many of which could be prevented if we had universal hpv vaccination. The doctor said erin andrews going public will help a lot of people because it doesnt get the kind of attention that Breast Cancer does. This is the moment where we can reexamine how were taking care of Cervical Cancer in the United States. Symptoms tend to show up when the disease has already progressed and can include pelvic pain. But women should talk to their doctor right away. The American Cancer Society also recommends that women begin Cervical Cancer screenings at 21 years old.
