Fox chase 88 degrees. But heat and humidity coming back tomorrow. You will notice a big change in the weather tomorrow, especially as we go into friday. Where we have been over the past couple days is a little bit below normal. 83 monday and tuesday. Today so far, weve gotten to 85 degrees. Tomorrow were going to get up there to near 90. The normal high is actually 84. And look at your friday. Were going for a high of 94 degrees. With the extra humidity, that will move in. Its actually going to feel like 100 degrees on friday. Philadelphia police have now found some of their stolen custommade bikes. Thieves took off with 40,000 worth of bikes from a uhaul parked at a motel two weeks ago. The bikes are used in fundraising rides like these, you see here on your screen. Last night philly police got a tip and found the bikes at a home on sterling street in the northeast. One person is in custody. 48yearold roy bowman charged with theft and receiving stolen property. Crisp fried chicken, a tradition for four decades. The three and fourbedroom houses here will eventually be sold for between 140 and 160,000. A new law in philadelphia aims to make life a little bit easier for children with special needs. Nbc 10 was at the rec center in germantown today where mayor kenny signed the new bill. Take a look. New cityrun parks and Recreation Centers for those undergoing renovation must be inclusive and familyfriendly, thats all part of this new law. Worcester completed a face lift that included a swing design for the disabled and adult exercise equipment. It is a celebration that has been 100 years in the making. It hit without warning, in the middle of the night. Tonight entire towns have been decimated by an earthquake in central italy. Well get an update on the damage, the search for survivors, and local students who were just miles from the devastation. Beware of this bike rider. The Afghan Taliban offshoot of isis has recently claimed a string of attacks in destabilizing the country. At least 120 people are dead, hundreds more are injured after that powerful earthquake devastated several towns in central italy. What youre looking at right now is video taken by a drone. Many residents are trapped under those piles of rubble. Nbcs Lucy Cavanaugh reports from the hardhit town. Reporter this was one of the epicenters of the devastating earthquakes that struck at about 3 35 in the morning local time. So powerful was this quake, that i felt it 100 miles away in rome. You can see behind me, scenes of devastation. This ancient town that has withstood the time of centuries, now virtually a nogo zone. Buildings collapsed, rescue workers are digging through the rubble trying to get to any people that may have been trapped underneath. One local Police Official told nbc news that he estimates at least 50 people may have been killed here loan. Those numbers likely to rise. We have seen tragic, awful pictures in front of us, peoples bodies pulled from the ground, taken on stretchers. There were ambulances going in and out. Local officials have been begging for rescue equipment, blood donations, and basic food, medicine, diapers, water, equipment for the residents who have survived the devastating earthquake in order for them to be able to continue with their lives. There are a lot of people who have lost their homes. Theyll need temporary shelter. This is one of the worst earthquakes in recent time in history. The last one was in 2009, where at least 300 people were killed. That town now a ghost town. Whether this becomes a ghost town is a question, but certainly for the people who have been living here, their lives now shattered, turned upside down by this earthquake in there. Back to you. Students in philadelphia, they felt the earth moving. Students from philadelphia, i should say. The International Opera Theater Company performing about an hour from where the quake was centered. Nbc 10 spoke with the company director. She says students woke up to the feeling of the quake strike. It wasnt long before they saw the devastation not far away. They came in and they were really shook up. Two of the actors from the university of philadelphia had dishes fall down from their cupboards. Their beds the whole building they said was shaking. The Theater Company is set to return next week. They said they feel as safe as they can be right now. Vice President Joe Biden arrived in turkey today asking for patience from turkish authorities. Officials in turkey told biden that they want president obama to extradite muslim cleric gullen. But the Vice President made it clear that the president has no power to extradite the pennsylvaniabased religious leader. Gullen, who lives in sailorsburg, in the pocono mountains, is accused of masterminding the coup in turkey. He denied knowing about the plot. Biden told turkish authorities the extradition process will take time, as it moves through the American Court system. Well, take a look at the boardwalk on this beautiful day. I think most of us tomorrow will in fact stay dry. We go into your friday, setting us up nice and dry all the way through the weekend. We have quite a bit of a dry stretch here. If youre at the shore its going to be hot friday, right around 90 degrees. Then we go through the weekend, shore temperatures will drop off to the mid to low 80s. Nice and dry. If youre staying in the philadelphia area, well be around 90 degrees. And next week were going to have a pretty hot start. Tropics, though, getting a little more active for this time of the year. Almost at the peak of hurricane season. We have two systems. The one farthest away, we dont have to worry about that one. The one were watching very closely is right near puerto rico. Its not very organized, but this system does have the potential to travel across the bahamas. Maybe strengthen, and then get closer to the United States. At that point some of the moisture from this could make it our way. So we could have some rain chances as with ego into part of next week. If you look at the sevenday forecast right at the bottom of your screen, by the middle of next week we could be seeing some rain chances from this system. Of course, were still many, many days away. Grace winery is one of the first local wineries in pennsylvania awarded a license to ship their products nationwide. The state liquor control board has issued 39 licenses so far. We should mention, sarah has worked with the red cross at scenes just like this one. Sarah, tell us what youve found so far in baton rouge. Reporter yeah, i mean, i can tell you, ive been on the ground here just today, and this is the red cross headquarters in baton rouge. Folks are coming and going, getting their assignments. The red cross tells me that more than 2,400 folks spent the night in a shelter just last night alone. We also have a lot of local volunteers from our area who are down here. And ive been able to run into a bunch of them, too. We understand there are a number of people out there from our area helping those in response. You spoke to mary. Lets take a listen to what she said. I do this because i know how blessed i am to have my home and my food and my family. And i know how desperate these people are to have that sense of normalcy in their life again. And i think its important that the American People recognize that we have to help one another when were all in times of stress. Is this your first time . That is a great message right there. Sarah, what kinds of things are volunteers like mary doing to help . Reporter yeah, mary has a special job. She came down here to work in a shelter. But they asked her to inspect the big trucks that are going around. Theres almost 100 of those trucks that are driving around to neighborhoods that have been affected, families that are back in their homes trying to clean up already. And theyre handing out food and theyre handing out supplies, cleanup supplies, you know, buckets and mops, things like that. And mary, and we also have another volunteer from bucks county, working with the red cross, who are working to make sure that those trucks are in tip top shape, and able to go out and do their job. Weve been talking about them and well continue to track them. What youre looking at here is near puerto rico, which could become hermine. That is something well be watching very closely. We also have right now Tropical Storm gaston. This system at this point looking to stay out in the atlantic. So the track here, these are potential movements of gaston. At this point not an issue for us. But hermine could become an issue for the United States. Now, florida has seen a hurricane drought, meaning they have not seen a hurricane make landfall in more than ten years. This could become a big issue. Now, what we have to watch for, a, it could become more organized, b, the track of it. If it drops further south, we could see the red lines to the further south points. Some tracks have it directly over areas like miami. They are collecting data on this. This is a hurricane hunter, a plane sent into the storm area, and gathers data on it. So what you see here, this yellow is the path of the hurricane hunter. Picking up those peak wind speeds. So far 63 miles per hour. You can see the rain, thunderstorms that are already associated with this unorganized storm. But those winds not yet hurricane force, 74 miles per hour. Investigators released video today showing the man reaching out and touching a woman as he peddled past her. This happened on august 13th on south 8th street. The same man is a suspect in three other similar incidents this month. That one we just mentioned on 8th street, thats one. Another on 13th between mckeen and snider avenue. Another on lum bard street between 9th and 10th. And a fourth on 15th near moore. The man rides up behind a woman on his bike and gropes her. Heres another look at that video. Dont Forget College kids have to head back to school, too. Today in university city, some of the 2,500 students who will make up penns class of 2020 moved in. The freshmen ivy leaguers al my alma mater got help from student and staff volunteers. I was a nervous wreck the first day. Temple freshmen also moved in today. The university tells us that the incoming class is its largest ever. More than 5,000 freshmen and transfer students, one of those new students tells us she cannot wait to get started. But she thinks the beginning will be a little tough. Im pretty nervous. Im pretty independent, but it will be a hard transition in the beginning. The school says the average Freshman High School gpa this semester is the highest ever at 3. 58. Summer vacation, it sending for those students, i hate to say it. So theres a little bit more of a spread as we go farther out in time, which is typical once this storm actually gets a better rotation, the models will have a better handle on it. If it goes into the gulf of mexico, not good news. Then it would strengthen even more.
