The heat wave, looks like its ending today. Seven Straight Days. Yesterday, 95. Today will be about 87. Over the weekend, even a little bit cooler than that, in the mid80s. Part of hamilton street in University City has a new name. The 3600 block is now called inho o memorial way, named after a penn student murdered in 1958. This is the first street to bear the name of an asian memorial in the city of philadelphia. During the dnc, philadelphia was the center of politics. Now Atlantic City might be taking over. Youre going to see how the president ial race has inspired a wave of tshirts at the jersey shore. Plus, its a new chapter for the zika virus. What doctors have discovered for the first time in the united states. And what it means for the spread of that disease. Also, attacked in the woods. A jersey shore man said a coyote came after him. And now neighbors are on alert. Decision 2016, the conventions are over, but the battle for the white house is just beginning. We still have 102 days until the election. If the last two weeks have shown us anything, it is going to get ugly. Chuck todd will be following it all. Hes joining us now. Chuck, a day after the dnc wraps up, Hillary Clinton already on the campaign trail. Right here in pennsylvania. Donald trump was in scranton here earlier in the week as we know. So what can we expect from both candidates as they fight for this battleground state, do you think . Well, look, i think in the next month its going to determine if donald trump truly can put pennsylvania in play, and put the entire rust belt, or the Northern Tier of this country in play. Different states. The focus, pennsylvania, ohio, polls have shown they are competitive. But it isnt competitive right now in michigan and wisconsin. And that to me thats what im watching for in the next four weeks. Can trump put add more rust belt states to the competitive battleground, and if he can, then he does have a way to get to 270 electoral votes, even if he ends up loses places like california, virginia and florida. Thats to me where were at. The Clinton Campaign knows if they can lock down pennsylvania, they may actually cut off any path trump has to victory. Okay. Looking in the rearview mirror, what would you say the big message is we saw from each candidate coming out of their conventions . Well, i think basically with trump, he wants to double down on the negative feelings people have about the direction of the country. He believes that he is that the country wants massive change and he made an argument for massive change. And he painted a pretty grim picture of what america looks like. And to a chunk of voters, i think thats what they wanted to hear. And thats why he had some residents, and why you saw a minimum of bounce. I think it came with the clinton convention, they wanted to say, hey, shes a steady hand. She has the temperament. Shes prepared to do the job. And then they wanted to make the case that donald trump doesnt have the temperament to be president. Let alone the experience. They dont want to make this about experience, they want to make it about temperament and judgment. So i think both conventions, and both nominees conveyed what they want the campaign to be. The question is, who is more effective with it. I can tell you this, the democrats seemed to have a more cohesive convention, and one that was sort of more systematic in its approach of taking down trump and promoting clinton, where the republicans were a bit more chaotic. Chuck todd, thank you, as always. Get some rest after the last two weeks. Im ready for it. You got it, bud. Well have more highlights, insights and analysis from the campaign trail on nbc nightly news with lester holt at 6 30 right here on nbc 10. Well, as weve been telling you, we expected the rain and thunderstorms in the morning, and then improving conditions during the day. Its really been a pretty nice afternoon. Temperatures generally shy of the 90degree mark everywhere. 89 degrees parts of lehigh valley, delaware, even pennsylvania suburbs getting close. Collegeville at 91. Chester heights at 85. Warrington 87. Gladwin 85. Nice and comfortable this time of the year. Thats without the cloud cover. So you get sunshine and comfortable weather. A lot of people may be happy about that. Its dry. In the philadelphia area. But we do have some showers, a few of them getting close to the poconos up here. But the main area is way back to the west. And that is going to be moving in as we head into the weekend. The heat wave, though, pretty much over. Its not official yet, but we do expect the temperatures to stay down into the 80s, both tomorrow, and sunday. With the showers and thunderstorms moving in as we head into especially tomorrow afternoon. And then again on sunday afternoon. The best chance of dry weather, as you see, going through tomorrow is in the morning. Theres 9 00 a. M. And we have the dry conditions. There could even be some showers develop before noontime tomorrow. Look at the temperatures. Only getting into the mid80s. Not a whole lot of wind. But the threat of storms goes into the afternoon, and into the evening. For tonight, its a nice night across the whole area. No rain expected. Humidity not too bad. We go through the night, and it stays pretty pleasant. By tomorrow morning, look at the temperatures, in the 70s. Fair amount of sunshine. Could be a little bit of patchy fog in a few places. But remember, theres been a lot of rain that has fallen. Especially in delaware and south jersey. And so thats what we have to keep a focus on during tomorrow afternoon and sunday. Because there could be some locally heavy rain. We just hope its not in the places that got hit hard yesterday. Now, tomorrow afternoon, we do have thunderstorms starting to develop here. But not in Atlantic City. I think that the shore is going to be the last place to see any of those showers. And that may not come until tomorrow night. Theres 5 00 p. M. Still on the dry side. Some thunderstorms. Philadelphia, look how it knocks down the temperature in allentown, quakertown, and exton, knocking it into the 70s. Poconos, we have a big weekend there. A lot of races. But the only dry weather i see is saturday morning. I do see a significant amount of showers and storms both saturday afternoon and sunday afternoon. Some of that on the heavy side. And at the jersey shore, saturday looks to be the nicer day of the two. 78 degrees for tomorrow. Those thunderstorms tomorrow night. And then on sunday, 76 degrees, with showers and storms. The weekend forecast showing temperatures in the 80s. Showers and storms both saturday and sunday afternoon. And as we go into the tenday period, we still see some lingering showers into monday, and possibly tuesday. But the temperature is down, until we get to next week. When we start getting back into the 90s. Okay, glenn. Its very likely that the first local outbreak of the zika virus is in the u. S. Happening in a small area of south florida. But the total rainfall over the last 24 hours or so, you can see quite a difference, this area south of philadelphia, even south of wilmington, is the most vulnerable as we head into the weekend. All right . Any part of this area that gets heavy rain has the potential of seeing some flooding. That includes most of the state of delaware, and south jersey. Because look at this. Parts of chester and berks county have had a pretty good amount of rain as well. Now, as we take a look at the current radar, we have a few little light showers coming up through the poconos now. More in western pennsylvania, more in ohio, all of that is headed in this direction. As we go through the next 24 to 48 hours, well, we start off the day tomorrow dry. Maybe a little patchy fog. Here come the showers. Maybe even before noontime. And some of them on the heavy side. Again, if they stay up to the north and west, we dont have to worry about the flooding down south. Nice weather at the jersey shore, delaware beaches tomorrow. Theres more heavy storms around the philadelphia area, and places north and west, into tomorrow evening. A lot of moisture in the atmosphere. So we could really see some flooding here. Then theres sunday with some more showers and storms.
