So one part of the system moved 60 miles an hour, while another part moved at 40, and it was kind of lost its structure, that is what has happened just during the last hour, and just as it has come through our area. Now, theres more rain back to the west, this is the area were going to be watching down near roanoke. It could make it into southern delaware, in the next few hours, the actual cold front is back here in ohio, so when you get a front that far behind, the line of thunderstorms strange things can happen, and it did. Just as it got into the philadelphia area. And we could be seeing some more showers during the night tonight. But the strongest piece of wind energy has already moved through the area. And lets talk to crystal with more on that wind. Realistically, this happening is a good thing for everyone in our area. It means the damaging winds not quite as high of a threat as that line moved through. The gusts are still strong right now, 28 mile per hour gusts in philadelphia, 22 in millville, 24 in atlantic city. I can say when that line was racing through, everything was around 40 miles an hour. Theres a big difference to the line passing to the aftermath as its behind us. Ive been tracking this thing out since 9 00 a. M. This morning. It was moving at 50 Miles Per Hour plus, when somethings going that fast, its hard for you to see too much damage. Which is good news for us across the region. Glenn pointed this out, were looking at gusts around 20 to 30 Miles Per Hour. Ive been checking storm reports and in maryland, just barely to our west, areas like queens anne maryland, were seeing gusts at 60 miles an hour and above. Because it kind of broke apart a bit as it made its way over us, we ended up with less concern. Future wind gusts are going to be strong as we go through the night and even into tomorrow. Remember the cold front has to make its way through. Gusts for us the rest of the afternoon, 30 to 40 Miles Per Hour, pretty consistent from across the board. From our shore to the furthest west points. As we go overnight, the winds will weaken a bit. They should pick back up tomorrow, on your thursday, expecting very windy conditions, gusts around 40 Miles Per Hour, thats at your noon hour. The winds are going to be a concern, the good news is, the worst has passed. Well talk more about those storm cells, as well as the gusty conditions and the cold air thats going to be ushered in, coming up. Still having impacts at Philadelphia International airport. The weather is putting a damper on travel plans for some, we just checked and the airport is telling us, incoming flights are running an hour behind at this point. Reporter came here first dropping a lot of water on the retention ponds, it did not last long the line of storms came through an hour ago. Downpours, winds did pick up for a few minutes, i checked with Lehigh County police radio, they report no damage, no issues. The storm system has moved out of here. Youll remember on saturday, in some parts of our area, including berks and lancaster, we saw power lines and trees down. Todays storm packing a lot of rain, thats about it here, as quickly as it arrived, i did move out of here. Earlier today it was warm in the Lehigh Valley, now that the storm has passed through, were back to chillier temperatures right now. Nbc10 news. The same system that swept across our area is deadly destr the midwest. A helicopter flew over missouri today to get a look at that damage. A total of 22 tornados were reported across missouri, illinois, iowa, tennessee and indiana tuesday. One person was killed in missouri. At least two others are dead in illinois. This damage you see here is in illinois, at least one person was killed when a tornado touched down there. The weather is blamed for three deaths throughout the midwest this afternoon. My specific question was this, what could the federal and state Law Enforcement do together to address this. Two women who claimed they were sexually abused by an alleged serial child sex offender, spoke out today. The sisters whose names are not being released. The ladies who are in their 20s now, want to encourage others who may have been sexually assaulted or abused by thomas to come forward. Hes charged with 51 felonies and misdemeanors, including child rape. He sexually assaulted kids for 40 years. 1,000 pictures of child porn was found in his home. Pictures they believe thomas took. Right there near toms river, we have lightning activity out there with it, it continues to move to the east and it is just about to move offshore. Its even going just north of Barnegat Light. As we take a look at the wider view, you can see the line, it was creating quite a bit of wind damage in maryland in the hours ahead of the time it came through here. And the front itself is still back to the west. So what happened is, we have southwest winds ahead of it, and we have northwest winds behind the front. When the winds come together. The air is forced to rise, and that helps create the thunderstorms. One of the ingredients in the Severe Weather. When the storms are that far out ahead of the cold front, you kind of lose that feature. And thats why the storms have weakened. Were near 70 degrees in much of the area. Peeks of sunshine in some places, its turned out to be a decent afternoon. At least temperaturewise. Its kind of windy out there. It will stay windy all night. Look at these temperatures in the suburbs, we have 65 at west callon. 60 in collegeville. 70 in ft. Washington, warrington, new town. Do you believe that 36 hours from now, it could be snowing in those areas . Considering those temperatures, the way they are. Here we go during the night. Its still going to be pretty mild during this evening, because the front hasnt come through yet. Once it does, the temperature plunges down toward 5 00 a. M. And its not going to be anywhere near add warm tomorrow as it was today. So were up so far to 72. 50 tomorrow, look at this, this is like wintertime again. Thats one of the things thats unusual about this situation, and one of the reasons why everything fell apart as it came across the Chesapeake Bay this afterno afternoon. 74 degrees, didnt set the record in philadelphia, but we did in allentown and tied some records in wilmington, and atlantic city. And then look what happens, 50 tomorrow, 41 for the high on friday. With wind, and 37 for the high saturday. So saturday morning were talking about temperatures in the teens maybe even Single Digits in some places. Tomorrow, its unseasonably cold. 20 to 30. Gusts to 40. A weak disturbance moving fast, and as we go through thursday night and into friday morning, a couple computer models bring some snow into the area. Theres the wind and snowflakes for friday, and the cold for saturday look at that low. The pa suburbs, were talking about a chance of snow as well. Not necessarily expecting an accumulation in the afternoon. Temperatures get into the 40s. That is quite a change over a couple days, where we are at 74 today, and in the teens by saturday morning. You were thinking the storms today would cause widespread damage, fortunately, they moved so fast through the area. What happened was, the storms outran the support in the upper portions of the atmosphere, it moved too fast. It moved 50, 60 miles an hour, we got reports of wind gusts at 76 miles an hour, and over 60 in parts of cape may county, there were some parts of the area that did really get fierce wind gusts, the rest of us were fortunate. Glad it didnt get any worse than that. You saw the damage from yesterday. Air fair fiasco. A womans surprise for her niece didnt go as planned. When she tried to get a refund.
