Improving. And farther to the north, with we have steady snow, and the temperature temperatures way down in the 20s, and out to the west, west Chester County, and it is heavier snow getting a band near the pennsylvania turnpike, and in central new jersey, all snow, steady snow. The map shows you the heaviness of the snow. Pottstown, trenton and all sorts of areas with some small snow accumulation, but not towards the southern half of delaware and south jersey where we have already seen the changes, and the temperature going at or above freezing from dover up to atlantic city. The temperatures are going up, but creeping up as you go towards philadelphia and points to the north. Theres the freezing line coming right through the philadelphia area through 5 00, and then it will start to move to the north, but it is a pink area of sleet and freezing rain to make form some difficult conditions, and now nbc 10 meteorologist Sheena Parveen will take a closer look. Yes, glenn, we will see the areas that are going to make the changeover first, and we have are reports of odessa and dover already reporting rain. So this is what it is looking like through the next hour. In the pink, that is the area of where we do expect the freezing rain or maybe sleet. The green is the rain, and there it is all moving through parts of New Castle County and northern delaware as we are going into the 5 30 hour, and the rain to the south with the temperatures warming up. We will look later into the night, and now we will see the temperatures closer to 40 degrees near delaware at 9 15, and the rain continues to move with the temperatures warming, and here in south jersey, and cape may and cumberland counties, and the green that is showing the rain changeover and temperatures above freezing, and now we have the rain and the snow line with the snow in the interior parts, and temperatures will warm up at 5 30, and still see some icing in the ear, but watch as we go later into the nig night, the temperatures will warm up, and the rms in the shore at 9 15 and some leftover rain, and we will see a big changeover. At 5 30, closer to the philadelphia area, and still looking at the new jersey suburbs and salem, ander cherry hill and bristol, and the pink is showing the areas of where we with could see freezing rain which is changing from snow to freezing rain at that point, and the green is where we could see rain moving in, but some of it could still be icing. Then later into the night, look at the temperatures warming up. We will see a big difference in the next 12 to 24 hours. 9 15 tonight, and much of the interior new jersey well above freezing and the rain is moving in, and the change is continuing farther north and west, and we will look at those counties coming up. A blanket of white in center city, and here is a live look at 8th and Market Streets. A lot of people are off for thet president s dayle holiday, but if you are out, watch out for the slick areas. We begin the Team Coverage in philadelphia. We have lauren out at the ben franklin parkway, and what is it like . Well, it is where it has been snowing for three or four hours, but it is wetter, and the snow is coming down in the wet pieces, instead of the harder snow. I can tell you though, it is has loosened up and in the past three minutes, it is warming up, and take a look at city hall, and a few minutes ago we could barely see it here where the snow is dense, and it is improved a little bit at this point, and let me show you what we saw earlier, and we ran into the group of kids and the moms, and of course, today is the day off offal school for the president s day holiday, and they were having a good time, and trudging through the snow, and take a listen of the difference of the reaction of a mom and child when they realized it would be snowing today. We had planning to come here to meet up, and we thought that do we really want to do this . But we forged ahead. Oh, my gosh, just, yeah. Well, they did some ice skating and then heading over to the library for inside time which is probably good, because the wetter this gets, the probably the fewer yays you will get out of the weather. Live on the ben franklin parkway, im lauren mayk for nbc 10 news. Thank you, lauren. And now, this is i59 and south philadelphia where where the roads are wet, but the traffic is moving and penndot has are reduced the traffic to 45 Miles Per Hour for safekeeping. This is at route 100 and euk lynn township, and in Chester County. If you want to take the turnpike, the speed limit is reduced to 45 Miles Per Hour. The turnpike officialers want to allow people, allow plenty of room if you are behind a plow truck. And now we go to the changing conditions in the suburb with deanna durante. Yes, she is live out in the suburbs. Yes, we have been out here since noon today, and the weather has remained constant. And looking at 309 heading to montgomery, and you can see the conditions are clear and little slush, but when you look at the turning lanes with where there s is not much traffic, it is snow packed and slushy, and the fact that we have had snow here since noon, not a ton of accumulation here, and you can see the pavement there, and when you are looking at the parking lot, you can see the spaces where where there were cars and cars not driving, and penndot says that the air temperatures outside may mean that the temperatures are coming down, the Road Conditions may not be coming down as fast. So if you see a changeover despite the salting, there could be freezing, because the roads and the ground have been cold for so long, that it is going to be taking quite a while for the road temperatures to catch up even if we see a good arm waing overnight. So they are telling you the reduce the speeds and take it easy out there, and make sure that you leave plenty of room between yourself and plow trucks. Reporting live in montgomeryville, deanna durante, nbc 10 news. And if they welcome snow at any place, it is in the poconos. They love the fresh coating of po powder. And now, we continue our coverage with doug in the lehigh valley. Doug, i can see the snow on the nbc 10 hat there, doug. Well, you know, it has been fairly steady for about 2 1 2 to 3 hours, and wep were in al allentown, and now in lower hamilton boulevard, and this is penndot territory when it comes to salting, but i have not seen any blades down. Just strictly the salt. And we have checked with the dispatching who handles all of the accidents, but they say a smattering, perhaps because of the president s day holiday and fewer people going to works and people are driving more slowly which is credited with dropping the accident numbers down. Of course, we talked to a couple of drivers a short time ago, and they said that things are okay getting around. Well, i have to get to 78th, so i dont know yet. Maybe i am thinking too soon. I will take a little snow like this. Reporter why . Well, we can commute back and forth to work. Reporter you can still get out in this stuff . Yes, yes, and the kids can get out to school. Reporter but if you are hoping for a snow day out of this in the local district up here, havent heard of any School Cancellations for tomorrow, and potentially a late start, but if it changes over to rain, a little bit of the white stuff may be gone in time for school. Im doug shimell for nbc 10 news. Now, looking over in new castle, the traffic is moving well there. And we have tim furlong there checking on the conditions there. And yes, the snow has not kept people away are from the Christiana Mall here. Popular for people today, and you can see, we didnt get more snow here, but it is a coating. We were driving down from wilmington, and the roads were bad. But i like this spot, because you can see the snow coming with the fine mist across with the wind, and in is where delaware route 1 meets up with 95 and churchman crossing and you can see the salt truck coming by and nothing to plow now. But like glenn said, the road surface and the travel lane is not bad, but down to the sides and the untreated roads and the on ramps, and the off ramps, and looking at the on ramps coming down from the malcolm plex, you could see there it is coated at this point. So you have to be careful. There are slick spots, and we were coming down from wilmington, and we had to take it slow, 25, 30 Miles Per Hour, and most people are slow coming up. We talked to the road crews, and that they are seeing the changeover are from the snow to rain, and not a lot of accident s reported and everything is okay, but throughout the night, they want you to take it easy. We are live in delaware, tim furlong for nbc 10 news. And now we check in with Ted Greenberg in cape may area. Yes, he ended up in Atlantic County, and looking at some snow there in Galloway Township there . Yes, jim and jackie, you can see the snow on the sidewalk and out on the streets as well. More slippery out here on the street, because a lot of the snow is now packed down, slush packed down, and right now, it is rain. It changed over from rain to sleet and then rain within the last hour, but as i mentioned, there are still very slick conditions especially in residential neighborhoods like this, and you can see some debris right here, and this is leftover are from the accident, and right here from the curb a short time ago and in the past couple of hours when we got here this afternoon, and hour ago, there was a car towed away, and it looked like the car was coming around the curb, and looked like the driver hit the fire hydrant or the curb here. Over there from where we are standing is the garden state parkway. Reduced speeds at 45 Miles Per Hour on the garden state parkway. It started to snow first in jersey shore, and especially down in cape may. When we were there, there was an inch or so on the ground, and folks were enjoying it. They said they loved cape may and looked more picturesque in the snow, and public works crews were busy plowing it with some heavy machinery, and also spreading the salt there on cape may. I checked with Lakewood Police as well north of where we are in ocean countyk and they tell me that conditions there are pretty has dou pretty hazardous, and they have had accidents there because of the slick conditios. S live from galloway tournship, im Ted Greenberg. Temperatures are going up, and the snow continues to come down, we will keep you updated on the changing conditions. Remember, you can get the forecast for your neighborhood on the nbc 10 app. From university of villanova, police say they have found a mountain of drugs and cash in the suspects dorm room. The weather fest is open until 28th. A beautiful view there. And Mother Nature is having her own winter fest behind us. Yes. And with could get ice and heavy rain after that, and lets get to first alert meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz who is tracking the conditions. Yes, it is not only changing, but it is changing not every hour, but every 15 minutes. We are seeing the snow moving across the river, and you see at Market Street, it is generally just wet there, but of course, the sidewalks are snowcovered and tonight, they are going to be icy. No doubt about it. Until the temperature manages to get up high enough, it will go there, but it is going to be taking a little while. So some icy and slippery conditions on the side roads and the untreated is surfaces, and you have to watch that. And then the wamer weather will come in with 63 degree temperatures if you can believe it. We have 21 in allentown, and 15 in mount poke know, and philadelphia is 27, and it is getting warmer and the closer to 32, the better chap we are in, but it is only 26 in will mimin, and glassboro, and from millville to atlanta city, even there, it could be spots that are colder than others, and remember how cold it was over the weekend. Lit take the roads a while to warm up. The temperatures are going to be take even at four feet where it is colder. And the forecast at 25, and red clay creek, 24 degrees. We get in neighborhood by neighborhood to show you the temperatures. 25 in glasgow, and every degree counts. 29 in smyrna, and so from Cape May County to southern portion of kent county, the temperatures will continue to get up there. In Cape May County, we reokay, and well above freezing, and cape may airport and cape may point, and as we are heading up towards atlanta county, we le see the warmer temperatures, and Atlantic County, you can can see it there with atlanta city and northfield well above freezing, but we have a little ways to go in the inland parts of Atlantic County. This is the rain over the past two hours, and the areas of light blue are the snow, the green is the rain. We are done with the snow in sussex county, delaware, and cape may kocounty, new jersey a coastal Atlantic County. We have the snow in the philadelphia area, but you can see it is breaking up a little bit, and turning pink, and a little bit of the mixture in wilmington, and once that changeover starts, we are going to be seeing less and less accumulation. Now, in delaware kocounty, and down towards chester, we can take a look at the traffic as well, and you can see that there is some slow areas, and people have to take it slowly, and even though it is a holiday, and there is less overall traffic, there is still going to be snow. Not as much in burk s koerks co you can see it in parts of Chester County, and Montgomery County getting fairly heavy snow with al alentown now, and new jersey and mount laurel, and Burlington County getting some snow, and the visibility is showing that we have accumulating snow, and mount pocono to allentown to quakertown to coatesville and when it is less than an mishlgs it is definitely accumulating, but the visibility in delaware has improve and even in philly, it has improved and toms river, and so the storm is winding down in those areas. They had the most snow in southern delaware, but it is pretty much over for them, and the rest of the area, 1 to 2 or maybe 2 to 4 in a couple of spot s, and watch the rain snow line heading to the north, but it is going be taking a little while for this to happen. The temperatures are rising to 42 by day break in philadelphia and 38 north and wested and no icings in the morning rush and then up from there, and temperatures close to 60, and with becoming windy and warmer with the periods of rain and some of it heavy and generally late morning to noon, and 60 degrees. Then it is colder as we head to the beginning of the week, and then as we go towards the weekend, it is going to be warm again, and back the 50s. All right, glenn. We have live Team Coverage in the First Alert Weather Center where the weather is changing by the minute. Glenn hurricane schwartz with more. Yes, the change is taking place throughout the statef of delaware and we are getting more of it in the philadelphia area, and we are looking down at the traffic this afternoon, and the schuylkill expresswayb and the vine street express wway, and t traffic is slow and the visibility is not good, but the roads are generally wet or slushy on the i95, and south philly and the story on the west side, and remember that the temperatures are going to be going up, and the accumulating snow from philadelphia southward appears to be pretty much shutdown now. And you are going to be getting a layer of ice on top of the snow, and little crunch on the top of it. Snow to ice, and eventually to rain. It is going to be eventually melt, but not that quickly, and there is icy and slippery roads in the meantime, and generally untraveled or less traveled surfaces, and untreated surface s, and heavy rain on tuesday to melt everything that is not already melted. And the large area of pink here which is more of the problem area than the snow accumulation, a and that is freezing rain. The atmosphere is warming up, and higher up, and still cold to hit the ground and you will get the layer of ice. And the southern delaware and coastal new jersey and you are in the clear, and just wet, but look even in philadelphia, you are seeing the changeover, and the snow is cut off, and no more snow accumulation, and philadelphia and delaware cou y county, and in the state of delaware and extreme south jersey, and still getting snow, and farther to the north, but it is not all that heavy, and not heavy in Chester County, and we have some bands of a little bit heavier snow coming through trenton right now and into monmouth county, and now we will go over the meteorologist she va par veen who is looking at the Sheena Parveen who is going to let us know what more to look at. Yes, the temperatures are going to be changing over quickly, and some spots in northern delaware seeing the changeover. Right now, temperatures well below freezing. The snow in Chester County there, but as we go through time, it could changeover to ice and eventually rain. There you could see it changing over to the ice, and this is within the next hour or so, and right around 60, and mostly more icing taking place, and freezing rain in the areas, and as we get to some spots with freezing and some rain starting to move into the areas, and now, looking at mostly the interstate, and this is philadelphia and delaware county, and the temperatures below freezing and the rain is still falling, but not too long from here, we will see a lot of this changeover to freezing rain, and not good on the major interstates, and temperatures freezing and then later there with temperatures more in the mid30s with the rain moving in. And now we are looking north and west from mercer and buck county where this is changingover to possibly freezing rain. We are talking about the pa turnpike, and the temperatures are still in the 20s and not until later on this evening where where we will see the temperatures above freezing at 9 30, and some rain starting to move in. Now, we are looking through the lehigh val e leeshgsb and the snow is falling, and still expected to fall at 7 00 p. M. , and so we are seeing the lighter accumulations. If you are in the lehigh val e lee, the temperatures are below freezing and then icing taking place after that as the whole weather system is going to be moving up to the north. By 9 30, burks, e lehigh, Hampton County seeing below freezing and freezing rain i should say causing the frozen condition on the ground. Again, in these areas tonight, freezing rain, and then the transition over to rain with the temperatures warming up overnight. Glenn, come up uing up, i will you the timing on this and as well as the chances for rain tomorrow. The fleet of team force is out on the highways. We continue to see the changing conditions not just hour by hour, but it is every 15 minutes or so things are changi changing. This is in de can de at i95 at the blue rock stadium, and the traffic is moving fine, and the temperature has hit the freezing mark in dover, delaware. It is just rain no longer freezing rain. And we are looking at center city, and looking at Market Street, and generally wet, and the temperature is below freezing, but it is going to continue the rise. The snow from ice to rain depending where where you are or when that is happening, and the side roads especially untreated surfaces. Sidewalks, driveways and bridges and overpasses and the icy and slippery conditions in parts of the area over the next several hours, but the issue tomorrow is going to be the heavy rain that could cause some localized flood i ing. And let me show you some of the current temperatures that is 27 up to philadelphia, and it is 32 in dover, and millville, and places that were below freezing in an hour ago, and improving from south to north, and still plenty cold to the north, and not even close to the freezing mark, and lets go to the areas that are a little bit closer, and logan township, and Harrison Township 25, and looking at 28 there in mullken hill, and turnersville at 27. Delaware kocounty, swarthmore a 25, and wallingford at 27. And the northern part, you can see Newtown Square at 25. And you see that the expanding area of pink indicating from some mix or light freezing rain, and the area of snow continues to shrink, and it is fairly light where it is snowing. No more snow or ice in sussex kocounty or Cape May County or coastal Atlantic County in the philadelphia area. It is already starting to change, and the upper portion of delaware county, and Chester County still snow while we have a mix a little farther to the south. It is a blue route here, and we will see how it is affecting traffic. We are the only ones who can show you this, and going south on the blue route, that is bad news. Solid red. And we have yellow and oranges, so it is not going full speed on this schuylkill, but it is not as bad as the blue route going southward. That is something to avoid. Here we are in berks county, and light snow. Montgomery county a a little bit more moderate and same thing with bucks kocounty getting a little bit more modern, and look agent this looking at this area, coming out of the snow almost in brownsville about. And the wamer a air is coming in aloft like it is supposed to, and what it does is to improve the visibility. It is is snowing hard in allentown, and they are getting accumulating snow, but most other places are over a mile.
