We have new information this afternoon in this violent brawl outside an allentown school, police making arrests now after students turned on the officers during this fight. Nbc 10s keith jones is live in our digital operations center. Keith, you start beating up Police Officers, good bet there are going to be arrests. Thats right, five students so far arrested. Allentown police say they arrested three yesterday and two more today. This is cell phone video of the fight that broke out outside Allen High School yesterday afternoon. More than 100 teens were involved. They tried to break up the brawl but sources tell us the officers quickly became the targets. A female officer was pulled to the ground by her hair and punched in the face. Police say a group of students surrounded her and began taking part in the assault. A total of four Police Officers were hurt in the fight. We spoke to a witness. All run down 12th street from that way. Cops were chasing them. One cop on foot running behind. And thats it was crazy. Two of the officers hurt were taken to the hospital. They have since been released. The School District says it is working with police on this investigation. We have new video this afternoon taken onboard a school bus in newcastle county, delaware. That woman you heard was working as a substitute driver yesterday. The students on the bus attend Everett Mathis middle school in middletown and today School DistrictOfficials Say the way that driver spoke to those students has prompted them to take action. The district tells nbc 10 we are incredibly disappointed in the drivers behavior and have taken steps to ensure that this individual will not drive for our district again. Reporter the latest we have on the officer is he is in stable condition at Presbyterian Hospital with a broken foot, hes expected to be okay other than that. Now they are not releasing much information about the officer, all we can tell you at this point is he is a veteran officer, they are waiting to make sure all of his family members have been notified. Listen, as you said, this officer was chasing someone after they broke a window to a car. Actually three car windows. Youre looking at the video right now, it all started about 1 30 at 53rd and spruce. What were being told is the Police Officer saw the man get out of his own vehicle, get over to the suv and smash three separate windows with a baseball bat. The officers started giving chase, his partner in a police car was giving a parallel chase, the two tangled and next thing you know the officer was hit by his own police car. Heres lieutenant walker. Plainclothes officer along with the offender tried to run around the car blocking the pathway, driving westbound on pine, they run into the street, the officer grabbed the assay le lant, go to the ground, runs over his leg, one of the two, which was the Police Officer. There was two shooters, one from the back, one from the front. Crews plan to remove the main body of the blimp tomorrow and it is no simple feat. A Pennsylvania AirNational Guard chinook helicopter is said to lift the hull pieces out, carried to a new clearing loaded on to military vehicles and driven to an undisclosed government facility. Today another former mayor of philadelphia testified in the chaka fattah jr. Fraud trial. John street told a jury he hired fattah jr. As a photography consultant during his campaign. Rendell gave similar testimony yesterday. Fattah is aiming to show his business was legitimate. Rider university is cutting more than a dozen academic programs and laying off more than 100 faculty and staff members, elimination of art and art history, advertising, business, philosophy, and web design. Attorney Generals Office is investigating, some have called for a federal investigation, as well. Police havent released the names of the officers. They have said three of the officers were white and one was hispanic. Some in the community have already reached their own conclusions. That was wrong what happened that day. The signs of the season are everywhere, especially down the street from where three of the most powerful people in the state will soon work. To get here, the Supreme Court candidates have to hurdle a gauntlet of political ads. Can pennsylvania afford that risk . The nbc 10 investigators found two special Interest Groups paying for the ads filling tv screens across the commonwealth. The Republican State Leadership Committee is targeting democrats, spending more than 1. 5 million on ads. Matt walter is the groups president. Its not dark money. This is money thats disclosed to the irs multiple times a year, its all publicly available. Reporter according to irs fie filings, the groups top donors include the chamber of commerce, tobacco company, and the Las Vegas Sands corporation. Nbc 10s Parent Company comcast is also on the donor list, so is Koch Industries run by the Koch Brothers who are are known to contribute to conservative campaigns. Weve been active in pennsylvania, provided a lot of information for voters. Reporter for the democrats, pennsylvanians for judicial reform paid for ads like this one targeting republican judicial candidates. After multiple interview requests, no one from the pennsylvanians for judicial reform would speak to us on camera. The pennsylvaniabased special interest gives most of its money from trial lawyers and unions, according to its disclosures. Its mind boggling for one thing, but its really dangerous in that the money is coming from lawyers and from groups who have a stake in the outcome of cases. Reporter in philadelphia, nonprofit court watch dogs like lynn marks and pennsylvanians for modern courts are worried about what all these ad might buy. National groups like the nonprofit, nonpartisan justice at stake has been tracking the money. According to their estimates, special interests have spent at least 3 million on air time. Theres a classic recipe in pennsylvania this year to attract politicized spending, politicized activity, and that is a Record Number of seats open on the court in any one year, and a race that could shift the ideological balance of the court. Reporter in pennsylvania, the state Republican Party distanced itself from special interests while the state democratic chairman condemned them. I think its an evil, very significant evil. Reporter on their own the candidates have raised nearly 10 million combined. The democrat with the most money is kevin dougherty, hes raised at least 2. 2 million. Michael george leads the republicans with at least 840,000. Campaign finance records show the same democratic and republican groups funding the special interests running these ads also contribute directly to the candidates. Teams of students used their own prebuilt catapults to launch the pumpkins at targets about 100 feet away. Included teams from rowan, temple, as well as several universities and high schools, too.
