Well denise, everything is getting set up, all the computer models agreeing there is going to be a major winter storm affecting our area. We dont have much of any wind right now, but things are going to change dramatically by tomorrow night and tuesday. In pennsylvania, except for philadelphia, at least 14 inches of snow, blowing snow, Power Outages are likely. And in the philadelphia area and the rest of the i95 region, at least 10 inches or more. And more if its all snow. There may be mixing with some sleet here. Thats the complication. And at the jersey shore and the beaches, gusts at 60 plus miles an hour, moderate coastal flooding, and street flooding as well because of all the heavy rain. Here comes the snow. Its going to come in monday evening, its going to come in and immediately stick on untreated surfaces because the roads are so cold from our recent cold spell. The darker blue indicates heavy snow and as the snow increases and the wind increases, we are now thinking theres a good enough chance of blizzard conditions during a period of time for a few hours, tuesday morning, that im mentioning that possibility now. That very heavy rain or snow, along with the gustiest winds. And you can see it changing back to snow in parts of the area. That is heavy sleet, that is heavy rain. With thunderstorms and then things start tapering off a little bit in the afternoon. As far as the amounts of snow, 15 to 20 inches for many of the northern and western suburbs, even close in to philadelphia and even maybe parts of philadelphia, 12 to 18. And most of the city of philadelphia in the 8 to 12 going all the way into new jersey and then lower amounts toward the shore. Well break this down neighborhood by neighborhood, coming up in just a few minutes. Well see you soon, glenn, thank you. And at the supermarket checkout. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. I cant believe it. One of the jccs in rochester, new york, was filled with 300 people when a bomb threat was emailed. Center was evacuated while police investigated. This is the second time this jcc has been targeted. Now, two weeks ago as you remember, three Jewish Community centers in our area were evacuated after threats. In the past month, 87 Jewish Community centers have received such threats. A live look right now at center city as our entire region prepares for a major winter storm heading our way tomorrow night. Snow, wind, and even flood willing all play a part in our area. Nbc 10 chief meteorologist Glenn Schwartz is breaking it down neighborhood by neighborhood. Glenn. Theres going to be a tremendous variation of weather from the coastal neighborhoods to the inland neighborhoods. This is cape may, the flag is not moving very much. 24 hours from now, way different story. North and west of philadelphia, all snow, at least a foot with Power Outages likely. In the i95 corridor, heavy snow, the change to sleet and rain is the question mark. If you dont see the changeover, theyre getting a foot or more also. Southern delaware and jersey shore, mostly rain, gusts 50 to 60 miles an hour or even more. Right now, it is plenty cold. Its in the 20s. Its definitely cold enough to snow and when the snow starts tomorrow night, its going to stick immediately on untreated surfaces, but during the day tomorrow, were fine. Its just a cold, dry day. Even the afternoon rush hour, you dont have to worry about any kind of trip home tomorrow. Unless youre staying out real late. Even delaware, jersey shore, places to get the precipitation fastest come monday night. Now, this is the area, one of the pieces that is involved here, and thats a pretty big piece for a midwestern system going in and ending up with a noreaster. Thats pretty impressive to me tonight. Theres monday evening and the snow races in. The darker blues indicate the heavier snow. Middle of the night, its snowing even pretty close to the shore, but the warmer airs trying to come in. This is a battle. Between the warmer air trying to come in and the intensification of the storm. Which is going to win . Thatll determine whether this area changes over or not. Just 20 miles possible difference, and if it doesnt change over, the wind increasing, possible blizzard conditions for a few Hours Tuesday morning. Look how dark blue that is and look how look at these oranges and reds at the shore. Very heavy rain, thunderstorms, there could be thunder snow at that time. Thunder sleet in some areas. Tapers off to the south by noon, but still heavy from philly northward by noon, but later in the day, it is tapering off. Its still windy. Its still cold. And then by wednesday, we could get some snow showers and flurries and everybodys digging out. Still the most snow north and west, the least snow down toward the coast. Getting specific, 15 to 20 inches. All through the county. Even pots dounz. 15 to 20 inches. 12 to 18 inches. Morristown, westchester, east notingham. Newark, delaware, in the 18 to 12 inch range. Still, 12 to 18, warrington, norris county, even and much of bucs county, the lower half of bucs county get iting 12 to 18 inches. Now in philadelphia, you kind of cut it off here. Chestnut hill could be in the 12 to 18 range now. Maybe parts of northeast and the rest of the city because that 8 to 12 goes down past gloucester. Still zero to four down toward the shore. And in delaware, were talk about 8 to 12. Ranging 0 to 4. In the four to eight inch category. When people are asking how much snow is going to fall . Depends on where you are. Thats the way it is around this area. Across the board, its major, pretty significant . Yeah, its going to be bad. Its just going to be different kinds of bad. At the shore, i think its going to be very serious. Moderate coastal flooding, gusts of over 60 miles an hour, flooding from the rains as well, travel there is going to be extremely difficult too. All right. One that were watching and youre watching very closely, glenn. And glenn and the rest of the First Alert Weather Team are working around the clock to make sure you are ready for the storm. Make sure you stay with nbc 10 and the nbc 15 app for instant updates and alerts on the snow. Danny. Thank you very much. Villanova gets good news regarding the selection to the ncaa tournament. Reporter then after done a great job so far with the bulls eye on their back all year. They win with 21 wins. That is the most ever going into the tournament for a defending champion. But they know, it is going to be real tough to repeat. I dont think its harder, but it is different. Youre hungry, your wide eyed last year, this year youre more business like. But, people are coming after you. And theres a lot of expectations around. So youre always dealing with different challenges, its just recognizing them and identifying them and then being smart enough to handle them. Last years tournament, villanova was blowing out a lot of their teams. They set a final four record winning by 44 points. Listen to what josh hart and Chris Jenkins say about the ceiling for this years team. The difference between this year and last year, were a little bit young they are year, theres label the more room to improve. We had ryan and daniel who was seniors who are our rocks. We have guys who still very young. So i think the ceiling is definitely better than last years team. We have to focus on being coached, keeping it better. Last year this team, we had a lot of teams, five seniors, this year we only have three. I feel like we have a lot of young guys and those young guys are Getting Better each and every day. And to be honest with you, our senior sclasz still growing and Getting Better with every practice, every film session as well. I feel like were all moving in the right direction. And whats even sweeter for villanova, if they make it to the sweet 16, they will be at Madison Square garden, which is basically their home away from home. At villanova, john clark, csn. All right john, thanks. Players certainly see dangerous between this years nova team and last year. One of the two guys who coached against both nova teams . With more, here is adam fedul. Pleased to be joined once again, and you guys have to face villanova every year, part of the big five which is just a wonderful thing, but can you give us a little inside scouting because you guys have to face this team every year, including this year at the defending National Champs and coach, ill start with you, are there any differences that you see in this villanova team from last years team . Well obviously theres no ryan, terrific players for villanova. But theyve come another length here, like donte coming off the bench and doing what he has done. And become a staple in just dependability for what he just does what hes supposed to do. Theyve got these Little Things going on. How about phil booth not being able to play most of the year . Hasnt been they havent dwemed on it. One of the things we talk about, we were together a little bit today and talked about how if one of their guards get caught on another teams bigs, its almost theres salivating going on saying i am enjoying theres no way this guy is going to post me. They enjoy that process, and its not one, its the whole team. And i think thats what sets them apart. Coach, are there any differences . I think the biggest difference is the way they carry themselves. They now carry themselves like duke. So when people turn on the tv and they see duke on tv, they think, well, dukes going to win. Theres not a reason theyre not going to win. Kentucky is going to win. Cals teams are not going to lose. And thats what i think that they now carry with them. They walk on the floor and they say, well figure it, well figure. Well figure as we go. And maybe one night its going to be were going hit you with the threes and maybe another night its going to be, you know what, were going to have to really shut you down. But they never, ever beat themselves up. Ill be back later with sixers and phillies highlights. For now danny nbc 10 news is coming right back. Well show you how neighbors across our area are getting ready for when the snow hits. Zblenchts and bundling up and bracing for the storm here in wilmington. Just ahead, a look at how it could impact your neighborhood. This is nbc 10 news. Tonight on nbc 10 news, a major winter storm, right now, our entire area is expecting heavy snow, gusty winds, and potential flooding as parts of the country are already dealing with the storms impact. And now for our personalized forecast for where you live, its time nor the forecast. We go to Glenn Schwartz. Hey denise, this is going to be a fairly classic noreaster in that areas near the coast are getting the least amount of snow. The areas further north and west are getting the most. Here at center city, philadelphia, theyre getting plenty of snow and the roads are cold enough, so its going to stick. But this time, it will stick. The last time, remember it was the day before. Totally different story. So weve got a first alert out for the whole area. In pennsylvania, except for philadelphia, at least 14 inches, with blowing snow and some Power Outages, in philadelphia and the rest of the i95 corridor, at least 10. And more if its all snow. Its going to be a battle between the snow and sleet or even some rain for a brief period of time. The jersey shore, delaware beaches gust to 60 plus and moderate coastal flooding and also flooding from the heavy rain. Here comes the snow. Tomorrow evening, itll get pretty heavy, pretty quickly. Accumulate pretty quickly. The darker blues indicating heavier snow. There it is, 3 00 a. M. And it is piling up. And by morning, what would normally be the morning rush, which wont be on tuesday, possible blizzard conditions for a few hours with the heavy snow and the strong gusty winds. Heavy sleet, heavy rain at the coast. A wild morning on tuesday. Still kind of heavy from philly northward by noon, and then tapering off a little bit, at least during the afternoon and a lot more for later in the day. But, thats a major storm for much of the area. You could see 15 to 20 inches from upper bucks, montgomery near chester counties up through the poconos. 12 to 18 in the mirror yan suburbs and philadelphia itself, close to a foot of snow depending on what neighborhood youre in, and then it tapers down toward the coast. Well go into this neighborhood by neighborhood, coming up in just a few minutes. And glenn, a lot of people got a jump on preparing for the major winter storm by stocking up on supplies today. Nbc 10s drew smith is checking up on shoppers and Stores Across our area. Reporter good evening, 24 hours supermarkets are very popular places to be tonight. As people try to avoid what storm managers are predicting as an extremely busy day tomorrow. The rush began early sunday, bottled water, milk, and other supplies piled into shopping carts. And left some shelves empty. Out at the gas stations, lines have been common, people are topping off their cars, plus bringing the extra containers to have handy for snow blowers. People want to be ready in case they get snowed in. I need this to get water, but the waters are all gone. We got a lot of stuff coming in, were ready for the business. Reporter the people tell me they expect the prestorm rush to hit its height right around the time people get out of work tomorrow. Plan accordingly. Drew smith, nbc 10 news. And if you lose power during the storm, count on us to plug you in and help you power up. Nbc 10 and telemundo 52 are partnering with comcast to make sure youre charged up all the time. Nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz will break it all down neighborhood by neighborhood coming up. Well, lots of people already put away shovels and snow blowers thanks to the warm weather we had just a few days ago. And now as nbc 10s matt shrew that shows us, theyre rushing to get ready for the snow and dreaming of spring. Reporter no matter how you feel, this winter has been pretty easy on us, so far. I guess i might need to get some boots. I dont have any boots. Reporter even rob has enjoyed the minimal snow totals and above average temperatures, but this week, its back to reality. Boy, ive lived here 12 years ago, im getting used to the snow, my granddaughters like it, but i dont. Reporter with flowers and trees already starting to bloom, the taste of spring now feels liking a tease. Bundled up, people are heading to the stores ahead of the storm. The weathers been so confusing that theres Hardware Stores already put out the spring supplies, so this past weekend, theyve had to rush back in with all the winter gear. We have plenty of rock salt by the bags, tons of shovels. Were ready for whatever comes our way. Reporter even if your garden is not. Cover them up the best you can with burlap. Thats one of the Better Things to do. Reporter like it or not, march is still coming in like a lion. Hey, got to do what youve got to do. In rocksboro, nbc 10 news. Now your nbc 10 feirst aler weather. Yeah, its going to be cold after the storm too. So that snows going to hang around longer than your normal march snow. Were going to have all the snow north and west of philadelphia, at least a foot with Power Outages and i95 corridor, heavy snow, possible chance of sleet or rain in some parts of that corridor and that is the question left tonight. Some in delaware at the shore, mostly rain, gusts of 50 to 60 and moderate coastal flooding. It is in the 20s now, we barely got to 31 for the high today, the roads are plenty cold, and this doesnt normally happen in march either, where the snow sticks immediately. It is not like what we got last time, we were 68 the day before. Thats a pretty impressive area of snow coming in to chicago, thats just one of the pieces thats going to get together to create this noreaster. The other is the moisture coming up the coast. Now, these are temperatures look how cold it is, even during the middle of the day, its below freezing for the most part. And as the snow comes in, temperature below freezing and most areas. But look what happens at the shore, temperatures in the 40s there, ranging to 19 in the poconos, heavy snow in that dark blue, as i mentioned, possible blizzard conditions in parts of the i95 corridor for a few hours, really wont be no morning rush because travel is going to be hazardous then. And you can see the temperature dropping later on during the morning. So even if we do get a changeover to sleet or rain, its going back to snow. And in the afternoon, its not melting, its continuing to snow. Although its getting lighter by dinner time. It is going to be plenty on the ground even a look what happens tuesday night. How cold it is. How much snow . A lot. 15 to 20 inches in the poconos, lehigh valley, allentown, lehigh getting all of that. All of clarks county, redding, maiden creek, richmond getting the 15 to 20. 12 to 181 quite a bit from norristown, much of Chester County. That includes abbington in lower Montgomery County and warrington. Trenton is right on the edge of that. And even if philadelphia, kind of cutting in half here, Chestnut Hill getting higher amounts, 12 to 18, and closer to the 12 over the rest of the city. Higher elevations there. And a little further north and west. Brownsville, glauser, clayton, winslow, thats in the 8 to 12. In the four to eight, dover, and less than that further to the south toward the shore. How about the wind gusts . This is pretty amazing. Monday night, and its not that windy, right . 11 00, look what happens by morning. 43 at avalon, 38 in philly for the gusts. And then, the computer has 69 miles an hour at avalon, 50 in swed swedesboro and thats at the peak of the storm. Then later on, it really tapers off to the south and still pretty windy up to the north. So, this is more than just snow. High impact,ll over the area. So the snow starts in the vaey 0 to midnight, the heavy is0 p. , 15 to outages. In the i95 10 to 14 inches in general in the philadelphi psible period of heavy sleet. To 10 00 the shore, wre wintery mix to rain, the gust o heavy rain, its just a nasty,c. And what aree after that . Its not going to warm up a of this snow is going to hang even in wildwood, look at those high temperatures. At least 50 degrees for this time of the year. So weve got another cold week ahead and its going to take a while to get rid of that snow. Normally, the march snows melt real quickly, but not this one. But pretty nasty storm all the way around. Yeah, and its hazardous travel and there are going to b and, of course, schoolythi, nob anywhere tuesday morning. Its just going to bemuch. All right glenn, thank you.
