A father accused of attacking his own children and three other people before police shot him dead. The first, 62nd and hazel in cobbs creek. Thats where police say the violence began with an attack on children inside a home. Eventually the father made his way to cobbs creek parkway and webster. Police say he attacked two women there, including a 70yearold, before police opened fire and killed him. Nbc10s aundrea clinethomas is live on the scene right now. Aundrea, what do we know about the suspect . Reporter police have not released the suspects name, but they say hes a man in his 30s. Theyre also looking into claims that his daughter made that he was high on drugs. Shots fired reporter the police are calling a stabbing rampage came to an end here. Im watching the television, okay . And all i here is pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. Reporter the shots came from officers who confronted a man they said would not obey their comma commands. Hes got his hand in his pocket. They tell him several times to take his hand out. He abruptly takes his hand out, and they fire multiple times, striking him. Reporter the suspect was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Officers were initially responding to a call about shots fired blocks away in the 6200 block of hazel street. But when they arrived, they say the suspect had stabbed his 8yearold son and a 13yearold family friend in the throat and chest. His 15yearold daughter was also assaulted. I was devastated. I was. I couldnt believe it happened. Reporter police say the suspect left the scene and came to a Family Friends house where he snapped. Officers say the suspect asked for something to eat, then punched one of the women in the face and slashed a 70yearold before authorities encountered him outside of the home. Did officers see a gun when confronting him out here . They believe they did. We have not found one. Reporter investigators did find a brokenoff knife blade, but theyre searching the roof of a home and bringing out dogs, looking for more evidence. Now, those two children at last check were in Critical Condition at childrens hospital. That 70yearold woman is also being treated. She is stable. Heavy rain moving into our area. Weve declared a first alert, and heres how it looks right there on radar. This rain could last for days. Lets bring in meteorologist Sheena Parveen with your first alert neighborhood forecast. Sheena, you say this could impact the morning commute . Definitely, jim. It really depends where you live because you are in delaware, you are going to see some of the heaviest rain, and thats where we have it right now. South jersey seeing mostly light rain, but the yell slow showing you where that heavier rain is. Sussex county, even near georgetown, were seeing some heavier rain also. Some lightning that does extend into parts of kent county, up towards refer view. This heavy rain is slowly making its way to the north. Were seeing anywhere from about a half an inch to over an inch per hour with some of the heavier bands, which again is mostly confined in Sussex County with that thunderstorm activity as well. We even have more farther to the south. There you see it all moving in from parts of maryland and virginia. Were going to keep watching all these thunderstorms because they do extend even farther south. So this is all streaming in mostly south to north, and this is why we expect rain for days. Were going to be stuck in this pattern tomorrow, friday, and even part of your saturday. So we have a first alert out for heavy rain. Chester county, berks county, and all of delaware. At the moment these are the areas that we expect to see the heaviest rain. This is going to last through friday, and the heavy rain could potentially cause some flash flood threats. So well be watching that closely. Morning commute tomorrow, well see some scattered showers around. Temperatures will be right around the midtolow 60s for most of the area, and its going to be cool even through the afternoon. So take a look at that forecast. Mostly the mid60s, rainy, a little windy. Make sure you have your umbrella. Well talk about the timing through the weekend coming up. I want to take you down south now. Two children and a teacher recovering after a shooting outside an Elementary School in south carolina. Police have a teenage suspect in custody. Officials say he shot and killed his father at the familys home before opening fire at the school this afternoon. One of the students and the teacher have been released from the hospital tonight. A 6yearold boy, though, remains in Critical Condition. Classes have been canceled for the rest of the week. Still no word on a motive. Tonight weve learned a man killed by a septa train was blind and fell onto the tracks. Skyforce10 was above the race vine station this afternoon. You see those firefighters there on the scene. Investigators say this death appears to be an accident. An unwanted cost looming for many homeowners in cheltenham township, repairs for an aging suer line may leave people paying thousands to get theirs replaced. Tonight the township presented the latest on its findings. Nbc10s Brandon Hudson live with some good news for folks there. Brandon. Reporter jim, people left tonights meeting knowing not everyone will have to pay for those repairs, but for those few that do, they dont know who they are yet but will have to check and find out if theyll need their sewer line fixes. A packed aud i dont remember yum of home owners at cheltenham high school, some hoping to hear they dont have to foot the bill for private sewer repairs. The department of Environmental Protection presented the latest findings. Theyre part of the puzzle of getting things taken care of. Reporter commissioners say the town faces years of expensive repairs which could reach 70 million. Jennifer fields is with the state d. E. P. , which is working with the township. Fields says fixing the sewer problems could cost homeowners thousands. It could be all over in terms of price range. Reporter our nbc10 investigators uncovered years of overflow from the talk any creme have led to much needed repairs, a problem leaders should have addressed earlier. At tonights meeting, the township presented some alternatives to save homeowners money, including waiving township permit fees, getting a bank to offer lowinterest financing, and pursuing state and federal grants for sewer costs. Im hoping that they find theres not a lot of leakage in the homes of the people. Reporter retired township commissioner Charlie Mccuen says its unfair if residents are charged. Hes worried about the people on a fixed income. Realtor ann reuben told us she doesnt think this is a sole reason to move away. I hear it talked about at these meetings, well, well sell or whatever. But i havent met anybody whos putting their house on the market right now. Well, this is something you dont see every day. A deer attacking a woman, fighting to get inside her car. This new dash cam video came from near the jersey shore. It underscores just how dangerous deer season can be. Nbc10s drew smith has the drivers story in her own words. Reporter ellen snider was heading home from dinner near the jersey shore when a deer darted straight into the side of her suv. Before i could even think, you know, i had the door open a little bit, and it was, you know, right on top of me. Reporter a Police Officer responding to a separate call happened to capture it all on his dash cam. There was a sixpoint buck. He was big. She could have gotten very siriously hurt. Reporter the deers hooves cut up sniders arms. Just grabbed its antlers and put my foot in his chest and tried to keep him from coming in on me more. Reporter she eventually got her door shut and the deer later died. Your chances of seeing more of these animals are way up and the leaves change and deer mating season begins. The damage on average can run 4,000. They could shall in mid flight and jumping and not unusual to end up with indentations. Reporter Dave Williams from state farm shows us the latest claim data where pennsylvania moved up to number three in the nation for chances of a deer collision, mostly due to the geography here. Delaware is 28th and new jersey 36th. Its an issue of awareness, to know theyre out there and there are some things you can do. Reporter you want to be careful at dusk and dawn. Thats when the deer are most active. Your best bet is to slow down and stay alert. Im drew smith, nbc10 news. And you want to be especially careful in rainy weather. So lets update you on our other big story tonight, that rainy weather. Over the course of the next few days, we could see some localized flooding, so you never want to drive through flooded roadways. You always want to turn around with high waters. What were seeing right now is mostly heavy rain in parts of kent and sussex counties, in delaware. For new jersey mostly just the light rain. But the heavy rain is moving in from the south. This is Sussex County now, and the darker oranges and reds, that shows you where the line of heaviest rain is, right near bridgeville, north of georgetown now. We even have some thunderstorm activity. Precip rates are coming in a little over 2 inches an hour, and this rain is going to continue to slide north. So that is some heavy rain. We also have some moderate to heavy rain moving through river view, about to move into dover, and thats all going to continue sliding north through the rest of delaware as we go through the overnight hours. New jersey, again, mostly that lighter rainfall trying to move into the philadelphia area. But we have a lot down to our south and southwest. So all this moisture is going to keep moving in as we go overnight. A lot of this could even start to break up as it moves in, but either way, were going to stay in that wet pattern. So some of that rain could be heavy across the area. So we do have a first alert for that, for Chester County, berks county, and all of delaware. These are some of the areas where we could see the heaviest rain by friday at least. So through friday, thats when were going to call this first alert for just for the potential for heavy rain leading to localized flooding. So we are going to be watching that over the next few days. Keep the umbrella handy. Heres a look at future weather. We may not see the sun again until the end of the weekend. Thursday, 6 00 in the morning, so this is tomorrow mornings early commute. I think well have some showers around. If youre farther south, you could be seeing some heavy rain. By lunchtime, i think well still have some spotty rain around. Could be fairly light. Overcast skies and it will be chilly by 8 00 p. M. Tomorrow. The rainy pattern is still here. We could see heavy waves of rain moving through tomorrow night into friday morning. So we could still see a wet morning commute friday, lasting through friday afternoon. And then look what happens going into the weekend. Were not out of the pattern just yet. Clouds are going to hang around, and the rain chances will still be with us. Tomorrows temperatures, look at that. Midseengs. Its going to be chilly. Its going to be rainy, and its going to be like this for the rest of the week. New jersey along the shore and in delaware, were mostly looking at the mid60s. Going into the weekend, you see your friday. Mid60s. Still some showers around the area. Some heavy. Saturday the rain is going to linger. Mid60s for the most part. By sunday, well see more sunshine, finally jumping into the midtoupper 70s. Were also talking about the tropics. This is still very far away, something to keep an eye on. Tropical storm matthew. It has just moved into the caribbean right near the lesser an till hes. Its fairly strong for a Tropical Storm but expected to strengthen as we go through the next several days. By sunday, thats jamaica, thats cuba, so we could see this thing becoming a strong hurricane, and we could see it take a sharp turn to the north.
