Tim yes. Al this shouldnt take long. You wonder how many of the women will be shocked by what they hear. Tim Mykayla Skinner could be shocked and Maggie Nichols will be devastated. A year ago she was definitely on the team. Was the only athlete in the usa that competed all four events in the gold medal runs. Ragan smith with a tremendous future. It will be hard for her, for all of them. But you know what . I think the rationale is strong. Al you know, these young women have been hearing the word rio for four years now. In your world, nastia, the World Championships are great. The nationals are great. You are constantly surrounded by Olympic Rings every day. Nastia absolutely. You live your life to compete at the Olympic Games. No matter how many World Championship medals you have. Like simone biles. To complete the entire thing. She wants multiple gold medals at the Olympic Games. Al are you surprised it took this long . Tim i am a little bit. Al you had it wrapped up. Tim you know, think they also want to show the girls that, you know, this was a hard decision. You know, you cant overstate it. They have worked their entire lives, given everything to the process. It shouldnt be quick. If it is a Selection Committee they should get everything they need. Nastia they had a lot to discuss. Especially with the mistakes going on. There is a lot. You look at the results. Gabby douglas was in 7th place. Shes behind a few of the athletes that probably wont make the team. There is a lot to explain. That goes back to the team. Gabby douglas took it on the team finals and thats where they need her. Al when you heard gabby and aly would try to do this again how much did you do to get to this point . Tim i wasnt certainly wishing them not to do it. I know how hard it is. Its incredibly difficult. I just thought it was going to be too much for them. After all the time off they had. Al parents, waiting. They thought it would be 12 minutes. I wasnt prepared for a half hour talk show here. Tim this is agonizing for all parties. No question about it. I remember my mom talking to me about that process. Going to the olympic trials. It was decided by score back then. She said it was excruciating. Al has anything changed in the process as far as what we are going to see in rio . Taking us to the medals. Starting with qualification. Tim absolutely. You have a fiveperson team. On each individual event the usa will put up four different gymnasts across the four different events. From there they will qualify, most likely in first place into the team finals. That team gets shifted to three up, three count. Al you have been the parent of a gymnast. Your son pete put you in many situations. What dooupg wh you think when y parent and your kid is doing this . Tim i cant even tell you how painful it is. The indecision. Aly raisman said she hes had a stomach ache for a month. Her mom has, too. Al well, the biles are good. Their daughter is going. One last break and we think when we come back, the much anticipated announcement of team usa. Never underestimate the power of energizer. Our longest lasting energizer max ever. Its a taste so bold, yet so smooth, it could only be called, black silk, from folgers. A taste you could enjoy, fresh brewed, or one cup at a time. Black silk, from folgers. Al back at the sap center where no one has left. Its been a wait of about a half an hour. It is time now to meet the five members of team usa. Announcer ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the president and ceo of usa gymnastics, steve petty [ cheers and applause ] good evening. Well, gabby said after night one, dont give up on me. They didnt. How emotional is this for you to be able to overcome the struggles to make the team . Its very emotional now. What was it like to be in the room . So emotional. So nerve wracking. Everyone has worked hard. You really dont know. This is very emotional. The less you think the better you compete. When you came out of the room, a lot going on. What do you think . Obviously words cant describe how much it means to me to make a second olympic team. We are trying it on. All these giant moments wrchlt does it fit in . Definitely at the top. Its been a goal for a couple of years and i still cant believe it. Its so unreal. Im proud and honored to be selected. You have been cool as a cucumber every time we talk to you about the olympics. Im an emotional person but i hide it. Tonight its just a very good emotional night. The u. S. Has had the magnificent seven and the fierce five. What would you call this team when you look at the talent . I dont know. Were still fierce. Fierce 5 Second Generation . You have time to think about it. Congratulations. Thank you. Al al . Kobe bryant nice enough to come and experience this. We invite you to the networks of Nbc Universal on august 5.
