Police are trying to figure out why the man driving the van crashed into the four victims in West Philadelphia just before 6 00 tonight. Nbc 10s Randy Gyllenhaal is live on the scene. Randy, this happened just as a Birthday Party was wrapping up . Reporter yes, denise, all four of these victims remain hospitalized, two of them critically. They were just leaving their grandmothers 75th Birthday Party happening here inside the banquet hall. As they were leaving to cross the street, police say a large van approached and then hit them. The flashing Police Lights interrupt the Birthday Party happening inside this banquet hall. Four party guests, including two Young Children, were leaving the event when police say they were struck by a van on park side avenue. They were all laying on the ground. Two adults, female adults, and two children. Reporter mary faust saw the aftermath. She said the driver stayed put. It was an elderly guy. He stopped. The van was right there. And he was sitting in the van, you know. Someone asked him who hit these people, and he said, i did. Reporter police are investigating the accident. No charges have been filed. It sent two adults and two Young Children to the hospital. The kids were just 2 and 6 years old. They were guests at their grandmothers 75th Birthday Party. We just prayed. Reporter Deborah Smith is a minister and said after the accident, everybody inside began to pray. We just believe in god, believe in healing and he will bring the children through. Everybody was shocked. But we just started praying and praising the lord. Reporter the cause of the accident is still under investigation. The 77yearold driver told police he did not see anybody crossing the street. At this point, a 2yearold and one of the adults remain in critical condition. Live tonight, randy gellen hayl nbc 10 news. We do have cooler air moving in, with northerly winds. You can see that on the flags here. The live radar showing same area that we saw earlier tonight. Newcastle county, delaware, parts of south jersey getting a little bit of light rain at times. Now, farther north you go, the drier it is. Its going to stay that way as we go into the morning. Were going to see at least some light rain across parts of the area. But as the morning goes on, the rain itself slides to the south. Drier air starts to come down from the north. So the sun is going to be out in parts of the area, even before noontime tomorrow. So there is going to be some changes, just as the day goes on. Now, its not all that cold right now. 51 degrees. The average high for this time of the year. Its not going to be all that chilly, although its not going to be as warm as it was today. When you get up in the morning, there could be some showers around. But they will be sliding to the south. Well be drying out by late morning, and late afternoons looking pretty nice. But theres more rain on the way this week, some of it on the heavier side. Thanks, glenn. New information on the deadly shooting rampage at a planned parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, colorado. A member of Law Enforcement said the suspect made a comment about no more baby parts following his arrest. Yet suspect robert dears exact motive remains unknown at this point. Police say he appears to be mentally disturbed, but hes talking to investigators. Dear is accused of killing three people during yesterdays shooting rampage and hourslong standoff. One of them, Police Officer garrett swasey, a father of two Young Children. Dear fired at anything that moved. It sounded like an ak. You could hear gunshots. From there, the bullets went through the wall. You could see it, you could smell it and see the gunpowder. All nine people who were injured are expected to recover. Members of the Colorado Springs community gathered to remember the fallen at a vigil today. Tonight, 40 people in bethlehem are spending the rest of their Holiday Weekend away from home after an overnight fire ripped through their apartment complex. It started around 1 30 this morning at the river run apartment complex along irene street. One person was taken to the hospital, while medics treated three others at the scene. Firefighters rescued one person, and neighbors who had been going door to door rescued another person who had been fast asleep. Witnesses tell us the fire looked like an explosion and they could see the flames five blocks away. Walked out into my driveway, and the flames, you could see from my house, they were like 50 feet in the air. I started freaking out. I thought, its going to take the whole building. Many of those displaced from their apartments are now staying with family and friends. 14 people are being sheltered by the red cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Small businesses are counting up the holiday sales tonight. It is Small Business saturday and many are hoping today is a start to a booming holiday season. Some trees have stronger branches, to hold heavier ornaments. Some smell better. The douglas fir has a citrus smell to it. It all really depends on what people are looking for. Once you find that perfect tree, the most important thing to remember is make sure it has plenty of water. And keep it away from any heating vents or fireplaces. A winter storm could make it extra challenging for many people looking to travel home tomorrow. Were just getting a little piece of that moisture now. Weve got more showers coming in overnight. More in the morning. But thats generally on the light side. A little more significant rain coming tuesday and into wednesday. So the next several days overall are going to be a little on the cloudy and damp side. 51 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies now. The wind is light out of the northnortheast. Trying to cool down a little bit. But this is not all that cool for this time of the night, this time of the year. 46 degrees in allentown. 48 in trenton. 51 in philadelphia. Thats the average High Temperature for this time of the year. And here we are at 11 00 at night. Cooling down a little bit to the north. A lot more in the poconos. Its even a little warmer to the south than it was this time last night. Weve got a northerly wind now thats gradually bringing in cooler air. Its not real strong, but just enough to gradually cool us down over the next 24 hours. Its also going to help push this moisture down to the south. You can see mostly in newcastle, kent county, delaware, extreme south jersey, more of it back to the west, a little bit better organized. And even farther back to the west, theres even more of it. So this is kind of a train of moisture, were going to get little pieces of that over the next few days. That icing thats in the middle of the country, thats going up that way towards central canada, and not in our direction. Heres the future cast through tonight. Patchy areas, mostly light rain, and mostly from philly southward. As we go toward the noon hour, the rain is breaking up. Sunshine is breaking out from north to south. Across the area. Look at that, by later in the day, were seeing sunshine, even in the philadelphia area. But that clearing is just going to be temporary. The clouds come back during the day on monday. We could even see some rain by monday night. Then theres more that comes in on tuesday. And another round that comes in on wednesday. So, yeah, were going to be getting a little bit of rain over the next few days. For the rest of the night, cloudy and mild. Showers mainly south of philadelphia. Temperatures down to 46. It doesnt warm up a whole lot tomorrow. The morning showers, again, mainly in delaware, and extreme south jersey. Sevenday forecast, clouds increase again on monday. We could get rain by monday night. More showers tuesday. The heaviest showers on wednesday. But look how mild it gets. And then when it clears out, its not all that chilly, going into next weekend.
