Reporter well, vai, police are still investigating, and officials here at Temple University hospital confirmed that baby boy died overnight. Doctors, as you mentioned, have performed an emergency csection in an attempt to save that babys life. And up until now, neighbors have been remembering that babys mother. Flowers and candles mark the spot where 26yearold megan doto was shot yesterday near the corner of adams avenue and griscom street. She was shot in the face. An innocent victim, according to police. And they tell us that someone fired several shots down the street, adding that a man close to where doto was sitting may have been the intended target. Now, doto was rushed here to Temple University hospital, eight months pregnant, and doctors made the decision to rescue the unborn child, but doto died shortly thereafter. And now that there is a second victim, neighbors in the frankford section are anxious for an arrest. She was getting her life back together, okay, and she had very high hopes for the future. I walk over, i saw her lay down bleeding. I turned back because, you know, i couldnt do nothing. Reporter and police this morning are still searching for the shooter or shoot eers and t suspect vehicle, believed to be a lightcolored impala or crown vic torah. Detectives this morning are also trying to pinpoint an exact motive for the shooting, trying to determine why these now two innocent people had to die. Live at Temple University hospital, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. New from overnight, about a dozen people are homeless this morning after a fire tore through a row home. This all started around 11 00 last night on rosalie street in philadelphias lawncrest neighborhood. The fire was contained to the second floor. Everyone did make it out safely. Investigators are now looking into what caused this fire. The Pennsylvania State trooper injured in that ambush that took the life of his fellow trooper is now conscious and talking. Corporal Bryon Dickson was killed in the shooting outside the State Police Barracks in pike county late friday night. Trooper Alex Douglass underwent surgery last night and is said to be alert and talking. The officers were ambushed as one of them was leaving the barrack and another was arriving. The parking lot of a local church is now a mobile command center for state police. They are still searching for the person or people responsible. Over the weekend, the reward in the case grew to 50,000. And we are hearing the justreleased 911 calls by the paramedics over the scene in a helicopter. Under fire were moving the landing zone to the middle school received, reports youre under fire. Now, state police say thats the communication between a medical chopper looking for a landing zone and pike county 911. They now say the helicopter was not taking fire and that has been a source of confusion. Authorities in south jersey are trying to track down two inmates who escaped from a Detention Center over the weekend. 18yearold hakeem walls and 20yearold Jermaine Jackson got away from a Cumberland County juvenile Detention Center in Hopewell Township saturday night. Officials say the two men and a juvenile overpowered a guard and ran away. The juvenile was picked up by police a short time later, but walls and jackson are still on the loose. It is 6 05. Happening today in philadelphia, the theft trial is scheduled to begin for governor tom corbetts former soninlaw. Gerald gibson is a former philadelphia narcotics officer. Hes accused of stealing money in an fbi sting and then not turning it over until the agency confronted him. Gibson is the former husband of governor corbetts daughter, katherine. In delaware county, a former deacon and sunday School Teacher scheduled to be sentenced on child porn charges. Steven allman was arrested last year after detectives say they found dozens of child porn videos on his home computer. He pleaded guilty in june. Allman was a deacon at Middletown Presbyterian Church in media. Also happening today, a hearing will begin in new york city to determine if a videotaped confession in the murder of a boy back in 1979 can be used at trial. Ant his body has never been found. A man was charged two years after he confessed but then pleaded not guilty. And a little further south, another wildfire has damaged or destroyed nearly two dozen homes and forced hundreds to evacuate. And aaa says drivers should see a drop in the prices at the pump because of the annual switch to less expensive winter blend gasoline. That switch to cheaper fuel is scheduled to happen later today. Crews installed three miles of lighting, replaced substations, pumps and track switches. Changes were made to better equip the tunnel for the next major storm. These include a Circuit Breaker room in the tunnel, which has been sealed with a heavyduty waterproofing door of submarine quality. And after spending several hours in critical condition, we have learned from officials here at Temple University hospital that the baby boy died overnight. This has been very tough to handle for the frankford neighborhood near adams avenue and griscom street. That is where this shooting happened yesterday. 26yearold megan doto was hit in the face by a stray bullet. Philadelphia police tell us it was just one of many shots fired down the street. Right now Police Believe that doto was not the intended target. Now, neighbors say she liked to sit outside and was getting ready to give birth. She was eight months pregnant. Doctors made the decision to rescue the unborn child, who doto planned to name carmine. Well, doto died not long after that, and this morning her neighbors want justice. Walked over, i saw her lay down bleeding, and i turned back, because you know, i couldnt do nothing. Im worried about them coming back and doing this again. Im telling all my neighbors to try to keep their kids in the house, because i think its going to happen again. Reporter this morning the manhunt continues. Police are still searching for the gunman, also a vehicle. A lightcolored car, believed to be an impala or a crown victoria. If you know anything, youre urged to call police right away. And happening today in Montgomery County, trial is set to begin for the man accused of murdering a 10monthold baby and her grandmother. Raghunandan yandamuri is defending himself in this case. He faces the Death Penalty if convicted of murder. Now, police say in october 2012, yandamuri kidnapped the baby from a home in king of prussia, stabbing the girls grandmother to death when she tried to protect the baby. Police say he knew the family and had planned to hold the girl for ransom to get money to pay off gambling debts. The baby was found dead four days later. Now to the School Budget crisis in philadelphia. Today lawmakers are back from summer break and are being pressed to pass a 2perpack cigarette tax in the city, all in effort to help fund the schools. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live outside the headquarters. Jesse, officials there say passage of this tax is critical. Reporter thats right, tracy. Officials here tell me that the need is so great, the deficit so deep, that failure by the legislature really is not an option. Lets go ahead, take a look at our video. Schools reopened on time this year due to a combination of district cuts, money from governor tom corbett and a promise of more funding from a cigarette tax. But the district still faces a shortfall and needs the state lawmakers to pass a 2perpack tax in philadelphia. Passage of the bill is weighed down with talks of amendments. District Officials Say failure in harrisburg would produce dire consequences here. We literally have no plan b as the superintendent has stated in the past. Plan b is so disastrous. Its so difficult to implement, in order to open up schools and continue to run schools, that we dont see a plan b. Reporter thats Fernando Gallard with the district. He says that schools could possibly close as early as christmas if they dont get money from this cigarette tax flowing into district headquarters by october 1st. So, there are hopes that the house will vote on the bill and then send it to the governors desk for signage this week, if not next week. A boil water advisory is still in effect this morning in kennett square, chester county, because of a water main break that happened saturday night on east south street. Now, the break was fixed last night. Water service has been restored. Even though there are no signs of contamination, borough officials are urging everyone to boil their tap water before drinking it as a precaution. The advisory will be lifted after two days of tests come back clean. Another Atlantic City casino will shut its doors this week. Casino operations at trump plaza are scheduled to end just before 6 00 tomorrow morning, and the hotel will close later in the day. Owners filed for bankruptcy four times, including last tuesday. There are candles and flowers where the 26yearold, megan doto, was sitting. Philadelphia police say she was an innocent victim, shot in the face as several bullets were fired down the street. Doto was rushed here to temple hospital, and before she died, doctors delivered that baby one month preterm in the hopes of saving him, and now with that second victim, the manhunt continues this morning. A bill that would bail out the district is taking center stage in harrisburg, and it all revolves around a cigarette tax. Reporter vai, officials here at the district say they need the funds from the cigarette tax, the proposed cigarette tax, to start flowing into district headquarters by october 1st.
