Were getting nice shots of the moon this morning. The eclipse has begun. It is less than an hour away from being a total Lunar Eclipse, but theres already a pretty good chunk. Cant see it in this view. Theres already a pretty good chunk missing from the moon, the shadow, the earths shadow on it, and that will be fairly visible as the morning goes on. There, i pulled it up on the computer, the weather computer, so you can see it. The darkening northwest or the upper left corner of the moon is going to be extending across the entire move, so it will turn orangey, reddishorangey this morning. This morning, what we are seeing are temperatures that are falling. Currently we are in the 60s. The wind is picking up. The storms, they have already moved out of here. And right now, the winds are gusting at more than 20 miles an hour. 15mileanhour winds in wildwo wildwood. Philadelphia has 14mileanhour winds this morning. Its 64 degrees in the city, 60 now in pottstown and reading is 60 degrees. So, clearing skies just in time for the eclipse, but the eclipse will end when the moon sets at 7 09 and sunshine takes over and warms us up to 70 degrees by lunchtime today. We still have all lanes blocked on the eastbound side of the pennsylvania turnpike right as you approach reading because of an accident involving a tractortrailer and a trash truck. We have debris thats scattered on to the westbound side in that area. So, definitely avoid that portion of the turnpike, if you can this morning. Heading to the blue route southbound, ramp to 76 westbound, we have a disabled vehicle. Its been pushed over to the shoulder, so you shouldnt see any delays in that area. Aside from that, the rest of the majors are looking pretty good. This is a live look at 422. Thats the eastbound side just past route 29. No big slowdowns to report just yet. You can see drive times looking good, about seven minutes both ways between oaks and route 202. Bridges are clear and mass transit is on or close to schedule. Rosemary . Thanks, jillian. New from overnight, two Police Officers from new york are reportedly expected to be arraigned today on Sexual Assault charges of a woman at an Atlantic City casino. The precedent Atlantic City is reporting the incident happened last april at the trump taj mahal. One accused new york state trooper was arrested last night. The other, a new York City Police officer, turned himself in. Nbc 10 checked with prison logs and confirmed that the two are in custody. Also new from overnight, two drivers sent to the hospital from a car crash are expected to be okay. Nbc 10 was on the scene along north Second Street in the juniata section of the city. Philadelphia police say the drivers were racing when they lost control. The crash also involved an oncoming car and several parked cars, but nobody else was injured. At 5 33 now. Ebola and enterovirus d68, two potentially deadly diseases causing concern across the country will get special attention in philadelphia. The annual conference has special urgency this year because of whats happening with those rapidly spreading illnesses. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live in center city, where there were some lastminute changes of plans for that annual conference to address the growing health concerns. And jesse, you mentioned last half hour a specialist whos been working in africa will be in town for that conference, right . Reporter chris, thats right. One of the doctors who treated the first pair of patients, ebola patients brought to the u. S. From africa scheduled to speak. A second from the cdc will talk about whats being done to stop the ebola outbreak. Health experts have also added a session on the enterovirus d68. The conference, which starts later this morning and wraps sunday. The new Jersey Department of health says there are now five new cases of evd68 in that state. That includes a case across the river in camden and another in mercer county. As you know, mercer has been in the news related to the virus recently. Coming up in the next hour, ill talk about the connection or if there is one, between the cases, the Convention Centers just now starting to get opened up and prepped for the start of the conference. The first is that the jury in Montgomery County should begin deliberating this morning in the trial of a man whos accused of murdering a baby and her grandmother. Authorities say Raghunandan Yandamuri targeted that family in upper merion township because he wanted to kidnap the girl to hold her for ransom to pay off gambling debts. Yandamuri is acting as his own defense attorney. He took the stand yesterday and testified that, yes, it was his dna on the grandmothers body, but he says thats because the real killers made him remove her jewelry. Prosecutors say that yandamuri did confess to the killings in 2012. Again, the jury should begin deliberations this morning. We are expecting an update later today from police on the manhunt for eric frein, now in its 26th day. Hes wanted for the murder of a Pennsylvania State trooper in the poconos. And decision 2014. The race for pennsylvania governor. Republican incumbent tom corbett squaring off against democratic challenger tom wolf tonight in pittsburgh, the candidates third and final debate ahead of november 4th. All lanes are blocked as a result of a serious accident there. And theres also debris on the westbound side, so avoid that area, if you can. Heading to 95 out near new hope, there was a serious accident in the overnight hours here, but as you can see, all traffic is moving in both directions. The roads are still damp in that area, though, so just slow down and take your time. Were starting to see that first bit of volume out there on 95 southbound right near cottman. Two new studies found that voiceactivated smartphones and dashboard systems can actually cause more distractions behind the wheel. Researchers found that these systems are so complex and prone to errors that they require more concentration to use. The government has issued guidelines for dashboard systems. Were working on similar ones for cell phones, but those guidelines are voluntary. Researchers from the university of utah have found that drivers actually had slower reaction times. Coming up, the future of a popular horse show in our area is in question this morning because of a mysterious email. At alleged financial dispute that could affect what happens to the devon horse show. And crossing the country for a very good cause. Police expect to charge a woman and her two teenage daughters for attacking a 14yearold girl inside a philadelphia high school. It happened at edison high in hunting park yesterday morning. The victim was punched, kicked, had her hair pulled. She had to be taken to the hospital to be evaluated. Its unclear what prompted the attack. Pass or dont graduate. Thats how important a new standardized test is at high schools in pennsylvania. Parents in Delaware County packed the radnor township Municipal Building last night for a public forum about the keystone exams. The tests are designed to evaluate proficiency in algebra, literature and biology. They feature multiple choice and openended questions. There is no time limit and there are several opportunities to retake the test. However, the panel was divided on the keystone exams effectiveness. We have standards, but were missing the key ingredient, and the key ingredient is the resources to teach the students to meet the standards. There are remediation plans. There are plans to help those students who might be struggling with the competencies. Gentilly says the keystone exam will be given three times a year to juniors and seniors beginning with the las class of 2017. Students have to pass all three subjects to graduate. More lowincome children in new jersey are getting breakfast at school. Advocates for children of new jersey released a report that shows that schools in upstate are feeding breakfast to about 72,000 more children. The percent of eligible children participating in this federally funded program increased from 30 in 2010 to 41 this year. Now to the casino crisis. Unionized workers plan to stop traffic today in Atlantic City to protest efforts by taj mahals owners to eliminate workers pensions and health care. Members of local 54 plan to hold a rally practicing civil disobediance near the casino at missouri and arctic avenues at 5 30 this afternoon. Trump entertainment resorts threatens to close taj mahal next month without major concessions from the union. Staying in Atlantic City, revel is officially sold this morning. A bankruptcy judge approved the sale of the nowclosed hotelcasino to a toronto firm, rejecting the objections from a florida developer who lost the auction. Brookfield Asset Management says it plans to reopen the property as a casino, but it has not said when. An anonymous email has some people worried about the future of the devon horse show in chester county. According to the daily local, the email was sent to its sister newspaper and the horse Show Community last week. It states that the show owes the ceo of Urban Outfitters 1 million, which is due next april. And some fear theres pressure to sell the horse show grounds to Urban Outfitters because of that debt thats owed. The ceo denies that his company has any design on the horse show grounds. Now to news from our delaware bureau. A man cited for flashing his lights to let other drivers know that police were clocking speeds has now filed a federal lawsuit. Heres the deal. Anthony jackson and his aclu lawyer argue that Smyrna Police in delaware violated his First Amendment rights when they cited him. His lawyer says that he was cited under a statute that involves turn signals. That doesnt even apply to jacksons case. Jackson now wants smyrna to pay him for the time that he missed from work. His lawyer also wants the judge to make sure that smyrna officers are not misusing their authority. What they did was they arrested him for conduct that is not illegal. The First Amendment gives someone, gives everyone the right to flash their headlights. Nbc 10 did reach out to smyrnas police chief on the phone, but he was not able to comment on pending litigation. This guy is walking a little more than a mile. This man right here, there he goes. Actually, hes walking a lot more than a mile. Norman horn is from phoenixville and is walking across the country for Childhood Cancer research. Hes less than 75 miles from the finish line in Atlantic City. The 30yearold says its always been a dream of his, so he quit his personal job as a personal trainer and moved out to california and started walking in april. Ultimately, i have a little bit of a restored faith in humanity, and its been a really its been a blessing with the way people have treated me along the way. He says he hopes to raise 75,000 for the Penn State Hershey childrens hospital. Hes expected to complete his journey saturday in Atlantic City. And yes, were believing that he did not have the beard when he started walking in april. As you said earlier, kind of hard to shave on the road. Though i dont know how you know that. Well, you know. The partial eclipse is already under way. You should be able to see the full blood moon starting around 6 25. About half of the moon is now in the earths shadow. It is quickly covering up with the shadow, and that will lead to a total Lunar Eclipse at 6 25 this morning. But you wont have a lot of time to see the total eclipse, because the sun will be coming up and the moon sets at 7 09. So, just over half an hour to see it. 64 degrees right now in philadelphia. Doylestown is down to 59 degrees. Its the low 60s for camden. Audubon is 62 degrees. And right now, voorhees is at 62, cherry hill at 63 degrees. So, clouds overnight starting to break. You can see some breaks already, especially in the Lehigh Valley. So, more and more sunshine and a good view of the moon before it sets. 70s this afternoon. The very start of that delay were used to seeing, especially in the 6 00 hour, and that continues slow moving down to girard. So, 95 is starting to get busy. School officials have canceled the rest of the season for Sayreville High School after allegations of hazing, harassment and bullying of players. The superintendent said that the inappropriate behavior may have also happened during prior seasons, part of kind of a team ritual, and its being investigated. There were incidences of harassment, intimidation and bullying as constituted by the defense within the antibullying statute that took place on a pervasive level, on a widescale level, and at a level at which the players knew, tolerated and in general accepted. The county prosecutor is also investigating. Construction delay. The trouble at the closed Trenton High School that could push back that project for a new school for years. And pictures of hope. Governor corbett announced a 1 million grant to help expand the Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the performing arts. Construction is already under way on the new 26 Million School in bethlehems south side. The 82,000squarefoot school is set to be complete by august of next year. The expansion will allow the school to enroll 200 more students. Now to Delaware County, where the dreams of some children were unveiled yesterday afternoon. The Homeless Children were given cameras and asked to capture their dreams. The photos they took were turned into greeting cards as part of the pictures of hope program. That raises money to benefit the Drueding Center in essington, which helps the homeless. Across the Delaware River in south jersey, bancroft says that its moving out of camden county. Bancroft is a school for students with disabilities in haddonfield. It announced plans yesterday to sell that campus and move to mt. Laurel. The town of haddonfield has been debating for years over how the campus should be used if bancroft were to move. Nearly two years ago, voters rejected the plan by the school board to buy the bancroft land. In mercer county, the States School Development Authority says that preserving part of Trenton Central High School would add two years to its rebuilding project. According to nj. Com, the original plan was to design the new building around restored portions of the old building, but engineers now say that that will push construction back. Students who spoke at a meeting last night said they just need a new school because the old one is literally falling apart around the students. A vote on the issue may happen at next weeks school board meeting. Now to kent county where governor jack markell will play principal for a day, greeting students and teachers at booker t. Washington Elementary School in dover. Hell visit classrooms along with the real principal. The principal for a day program is designed to help schools create partnerships with local businesses. 130 schools across delaware are participating this year. So, students, be on your best behavior.
