We spoke with the blue cross broad street run race director yesterday, he said volunteers have been very busy the past few days packing food and snacks. Theyll continue today. Theyve been setting up the tents at the navy yard at the finish line. The race starts 1 2 hour earlier this time around. If youve been doing this for the past few years, you want to keep that in mind. The race will be broadcast on nbc 10. Live tv coverage this year is a new feature for all of us. Were all working hand in hand to make that a success. Were looking forward to making that happen. Were going to put our best show forward. Its our 36th year doing it. A show of solidarity with baltimore. People in philadelphia held peace full protests in center city throughout the day yesterday. As the sun began to set the, the tensions began to rise. The crowd of protesters tried to force their way onto the vine street expressway. Police did not let that happen. Nbc 10 was there as one person was taken into custody. You see that video there. Now the march began at city hall where more than 600 people gathered to call attention to a racially charged debate in the wake of the death of freddie gray. They like to suppress what goes on in the system. Were not here for this today. I came out here because the tone has to change. The crowd marched for miles at times bringing entire city blocks to a stand still blocking traffic. Despite a few clashes no one was hurt and there were two arrests. Meantime there are conflicting reports about what happened leading up to freddie grays death. Accords to the Washington Post donte allen rode in the van with gray but couldnt see gray because of a solid divider between them. Our nbc station in baltimore reports gray was already unresponsive by the time allen was loaded into that van but alan insists he heard the banging. All i heard was a little banging for four seconds, a little banging, just little you know what i mean . Boom, boom. Just little banging. Grays autopsy report shows no evidence that he banged his body against anything on his own. Gray died from a spinal injury a week after his arrest. Six officers involved are now suspended. New jersey state troopers will remain in baltimore until next week or maybe longer. Yesterday governor christie extended their deployment. 150 troopers and Police Workers left Mercer County for baltimore. Theyve been helping enforce the curfew there. Pennsylvania state troopers are heading to baltimore to help. Happening today, Camden County is celebrating two years for its restructured police force. Officials say the commitment to Community Policing has helped reduce Violent Crime in camden. There will be a public celebration at pine point park in north camden. A new safety policy borne out of a tragedy goes into effect today in gloucester county. They put a ruling in place requiring police cars that are going at least 20 miles an hour over the speed limit to use their lights and sirens. The policy comes after a Franklin County police car hit and killed a 10yearold boy as he was crossing a road. A standoff ended late last night, and when it did police found a suspect dead and a woman wounded. The standoff played out for more than three hours at a town house in north wells. They swarmed the house after neighbors heard a burst of gunfire. A woman who was shot was like in the parking lot. Witnesses say they saw a person run into the house. Police surrounded the house and evacuated neighbors. Two squad cars and they came down across the street from me with their guns drawn. Next thing i know all hell broke loose. The police went into the home around 10 00 p. M. And they found the suspect dead. They havent said how he died. The woman was air lifted to the hospital. No word yet on her condition. A judge will sentence a philadelphia man for killing and dismembering another man. Keith tolbert pleaded guilty. He and two prostitutes killed frank zarzicky during a robbery in 2013. Police say tolbert cut up the body put the remains in a trash bag and tossed it into a schuylkill river. Officials found the bag and called police. This former youth football coach facing sentencing today for child sex abuse. A philadelphia jury convicted leon watson jr. Of assaulting five of his players and a developmentally disabled adult. Watson used to coach the ron hurst raiders football team. Police arrested him in 2013 after getting an anonymous tip he was abusing some boys on his team. 5 07 now.
