Use caution. 5 02 breaking news were following this morning. Philadelphia police have found the car that they believe ran over a Temple University student leaving her fighting for her life. Now, theyre looking for the driver. Nbc10s katy zachry is live. Reporter tracy, we have spoken with police who are in contact with the girls doctors. Were told shes in extremely critical condition. On life support. There was a positive turn in the investigation. Take a look at the video. Police found the car that they say hit the 22yearold temple student as she was riding her bike near campus yesterday. You can see from the video, that cars windshield is cracked. Police found the abandoned car overnight in north philadelphia. But they are still looking for the people inside. They say the driver actually stopped after hitting the student on her bike. But then took off leaving her on the ground with all the injure tlas that she is on life support. The communication was right there. Obviously, were just on the edge of campus. There is a lot of traffic. A lot of kids coming to and from class. Reporter understandably this has really taken the temple community. That student that we talked to said he is nervous he often rides his bike. And this has hit home. Theyre looking for three teenagers believed to be in the car. Also news from overnight, investigators are looking for the person who they say stabbed a Gloucester County woman several times. Authorities found the victim inside her woodbury home on williams avenue early this morning. Shed been stabbed several times. Were working to 81 date ing toing to update her condition. Police tell us they have a suspect in custody. Police responded to a report that a possibly armed person inside this home in Upper Providence township. After several hours Police Arrested a man but they havent yet told us his name any charges against him or what exactly led to the standoff. Skyforce 10 is over a motorcycle accident on roosevelt and summerdale. The motorcycle rider was rushed to the hospital. Happening today, a judge will decide whether monsignor William Lynch should be sent back to jail. Lynch served half of his sentence after convicted of child endangerment. The state threw out the case but the state Supreme Court reversed that monday. Hes the first Church Official ever prosecuted over his handling of abuse complaints. Happening today a judge will sentence an Atlantic County man for causing a crash that killed a 9yearold boy. A jury convicted William Liepe of aggravated manslaughter homicide by vehicle and other charges. Prosecutors say he was driving drunk when his suv slammed into a car in mays landing in 2011. The crash killed ryan shyler and left his friend paralyzed from the waist down. 5 05 now. And the situation is calmer in baltimore this morning but protests spread overnight to other cities. Police were able to clear the streets on baltimore on the second night of the curfew. Officers arrested 16 people during peaceful marches. A few minutes after curfew only a couple dozen people remained on the scene of mondays riot. Protesters did take to the streets as well including denver where Police Arrested nine people and used pepper stray. The demonstrators held a march in solidarity in baltimore. Hundreds of people rallied calling for justice in the death of freddie gray in baltimore. Protesters scuffled with police and blocked traffic. And here at home philadelphia courts are closing early today because of a possible protest in center city. The courts say this should help the crowd control and traffic this afternoon. Happening today, loved ones and leaders will remember a 22 mother of two, artise brown was sitting outside of her home on west street with her two boys when someone opened fire killing brown and another woman. Theres a Community Discussion about violence later this morning and a vigil tonight. Yesterday, family and friends shared their grief near the murder scene. One of browns cousins described a life thats suddenly over. She was everything. She was a great mother. She was there every day, woke up every day and went to sleep. Artise brown is wilmingtons 11th murder victim this year. Police have no suspect at this point. Happening today, a Philadelphia Community will pay tribute to a fallen firefighter. Firefighter Daniel Sweeney was killed on april 9th 2012 along with lieutenant robert nery. They were fighting a fire when a building collapsed. Today a portion of a road will be renamed the firefighter Daniel Sweeney roadway. A Chester County son faces a hearing next month after charged with the murder of his elderly father. Prosecutors charge that Edward Obrien iii moved his then 90yearold dad from a rehab center to his home. Investigators were told the son was told his father needed medical care and medication which he never got. This army veteran now weighed about 130 pounds. He was covered with bed sores, he was covered with human waste. He had died from neglect. Sons attorney tells nbc10 that his clients father did not want to die in a nursing home and refused medical treatment. He also claims obrien cared for his father right up until his death. Philadelphia Police Investigating a child luring case wanted to see if a new incident just blocks away was related. The latest incident happened tuesday. Police say a 13yearold girl told them two men approached them in a black suv. She said one man tried to grab her and she ran away. A dollar report involved a 12yearold girl walking near bee street and lehigh avenue. Were waiting to see if a plant will reopen after a chemical leak sent eight people to the hospital. It homed at Home Solutions in hammonton. Emergency workers say a refrigerant may have leaked into an air duct. Causing employees to get sick. This is new video just into nbc10 of a rescue of a teenager who was buried for five days following saturdays earthquake in nepal. A usaid team pulled the boy from the rubble. Officials now say more than 5500 people died in that quake, twice the number that was injured. Much needed u. S. Aid is arriving in nepal nearly a week after the deadly quake hit. United nations estimates that more than 1. 4 Million People need food. The quake has left tens of thousands of people homeless. Meantime a doctor from the Lehigh Valley is trying to get home after being stranded on mt. Everest. Dr. Neil chesson is an eye surgeon and his staff said he was starting his third hike of everest while the earthquake and avalanche hit. While he waits to get home dr. Chesson will use his expertise to help other victims. Five years ago, the faa questioned the Mental Health of that copilot who isj believed to deliberately having crashed that plane. It says while training to be a pilot at a Flight School in phoenix in 2010 Andreas Lubitz submitted a medical form saying he had been treated for severe impression between 2008 and 2009. The faa did not grant him a license until he provided letters from his doctors saying he had recovered. Businesses are concerned over staffing for the cape may fire company. The city has had four fulltime paid firefighters for the past few years but the fire chief says the issue has been a crisis because of adwindling number of volunteer firefighters. Just three are qualified. Hiring more fulltimers isnt an option because theres no money in the budget. If the money can be allocated somehow to at least start the process. Business owners tell us they worry about having the same Staffing Levels when the population explodes during the summer season. City Officials Say theyre reviewing the issue and looking at how other departments in Cape May County are staffing. Theres a push for more jobs for teens in philadelphia. Matt whats the plan and whats the hope to get these kids working this summer . Reporter well chris, every summer, thousands of teens apply for jobs here in south philadelphia, but not all will get hired. And Officials Say that is unacceptable. With summer on the way, teens will be out of the classroom, and that may be the perfect chance to get more. The summer is an opportunity to apply what they learned in the schools in a real world work setting. Reporter she says youth ages 12 to 24 are ready to work but most of the time theres no work for them to do. Every year 18,000 young people apply. And we have not been able to provide 18,000 summer jobs yet. Reporter about half actually, some teens started applying for the beginning of this month for a job that had wont start until after july 4th from hospitality to food and recreation each job is going to cost the employer about 1200. Money well spent. I think as much as the young people are learning i think theres a real give and take there that benefits everybody. Reporter here at bank of america, about 70 summer jobs focused on customer service. Toms been hiring workers for the past eight years, in his mind, every job is a chance to change a persons life.
