You have to terminate that Reform Commission and give the school back to the parents and let the parents do the guidance and give local control and hold the mayor accountable. Reporter the citys changing workforce i think you have to start first from the 3 and 4yearolds in the city that dont have access to prequality prek. Reporter well, there are two performances of school plays scheduled for tonight and tomorrow. And 400 tickets were issued for this but are sold out, but the authors want everyone in the state to see this. Thats because they say Education Funding is a very important issue. It affects everyone. And a group of actors have been working the past few months crafting performances to more than 100 interviews done with people throughout the state. Including parents, students and teachers. And one of the coauthors tells me the idea came after seeing students share their stories in harrisburg two years ago and thought, why not a play . Theater can do some things that, like a documentary cant quite do. And one of the things that theater, that really good theater can do is pose a problem and a question in a human way. Reporter so the idea is once these performances here in philadelphia are done that they want to get this throughout the state in theaters all over at least a video of it so more people can see it. Live at Independence Mall matt delucia, nbc 10 news. Six minutes after 5 00 now, a man survives after being shot in the head by his son as the family was driving down i76 in montgomery county. This morning a 22yearold philadelphia man is in Police Custody as investigators try to figure out a motive in the shooting. Police say the man was in the backseat and shot his father who was driving the car. This all happened during the evening rush hour near the conshohocken exit. The mans mother was also in the car but was not hurt. His father is in critical but stable condition. Happening today, a philadelphia judge will decide if these teens will stand trial for killing a man who was out walking his dog. Brandon smith and tysene hamilton face a hearing on adult charges of murder and robbery. The boys are accused of killing a man last week in overbrook. They were playing basketball nearby when they decided to try to rob someone. Also happening in the days ahead, the murder trial begins for one of the three people accused of killing a philadelphia man. Keith tolbert is on trial for his alleged role in the murder of francis sarziky. His body was found in the Schuylkill River in 2013. And the Surveillance Video here could help solve a crime from three years ago. Two men may have witnessed the murder. The video is from north 19th and west allen street on march 12th 2012. Just a few minutes after this video was reported rocco marinarro was shot to death. Police are hoping this video helps to solve the crime. Meanwhile, look at this Surveillance Video. This burgundy van caught on Surveillance Video is the clearest evidence they have in the kidnapping of a Center City Jeweler store worker. Investigators say robbers beat and tased the victim as the van left the parking garage on Chestnut Street on saturday. The van demanded security codes to the victims workplace before releasing her. A former firefighter accused of holding his fellow firefighters hostage last week is now behind bars. After underdoing a Mental Health evaluation paul jordan was charged with kidnapping and making terroristic threats. He is being held on 1. 5 million. He held four firefighters on gunpoint last week inside the lamont firefighters unit. Jordan was upset after being fired by the department. Happening today, parishioners trying to save their church from demolition will meet with the president of the Philadelphia City council. Daryl clark is asking the archdiocese to hold off on tearing down the 133yearold st. Laurentis church. They have appealed to parishioners and have yet to receive a formal response. Good morning. And in the five months since officers started to carry narcan, they have saved 31 lives. It can reverse the effects of a heroin overdose. Delaware county is the only county to have narcan available to all officers. And today pennsylvania lawmakers will give medical marijuana a second hearing. Well, this morning were taking a closer look inside a food lab at a local university where students are cooking up healthy food to help Cancer Patients. Katy zachry is live at drexel park in university city. Katy, you went into the kitchen to watch the students. Tell us more. Reporter yeah and i got to taste their creations. And they are so good. In addition to cooking for their classes here at drexel, these students are creating recipes to help fight cancer. We met several of them inside their food lab as you said and they spent last semester teaching patient survivors and caregivers as well as patient families how to cook and eat healthier. Each month the culinary students take their recipes where Cancer Patients are staying for free to be treated at the hospital. Just like ali here who graduated to come up with lowfat alternatives to strawberry shortcake. A lot of them will get involved and learn about different techniques and cooking techniques we have and some like to watch which is completely fun as well. The city council tonight is expected to approve rezoning for the old showboat casino so Stockton University can use it as a satellite campus. If rezoning is approved tonight, it will prohibit showboat being used as a casino and designate stockton as the educated developer. The move can still be challenged in court. Also on the boardwalk, the revel deal that became official yesterday. Glenn straub closed on the deal paying 82 million for the casino hotel that cost 2. 5 billion to build.
