As the snow begins this morning. Light snow is what you can expect in philadelphia at 6 00. The snow will be falling at 9 00. But by noon time it will be tapering off. Temperatures in the 20s. That will recover a bill this afternoon. Well go through it hour by hour to show you exactly what to expect in your neighborhood when im back in ten. Right now lets check in with traffic reporter jillian mele. Morning, jillian. Good morning, bill. Back to southern delaware right here rehoboth beach. Route 1 at route 24. And this is snow on the ground. This picture has changed dramatically in the last few minutes. In some of our cameras we are starting to see tire marks out there as drivers are heading out on the roads. So you definitely need to slow down and take your time in portions of southern delaware southern new jersey. As far as the majors go in pennsylvania, were not reporting any problems there. Drive times on the blue route still average. 15 to 16 minutes both directions between 95 and 76. Heres a live look at i95 in south philadelphia. Its from our camera atop the wells fargo center. The snow bill henley mentioned is edging toward the city. Jillian just showed us its edging into our area right now. It has reached southern delaware and the jersey shore where nbc 10s matt delucia is live in ocean city. Matt, whats it doing . Reporter well tracy, usually Live Television things dont work out in terms of expecting things to happen. But just about 30 seconds ago, we started seeing the first few flakes falling from the sky along the ocean city boardwalk. Were out here on ninth street. As can you see from that radar that bill was showing you and also those cameras, cape may is getting a little bit of snow right now. Of course, that is moving up north. And so were starting to see that up here along the coastline and as it progresses into southern new jersey and up toward philadelphia. But right now because it has just started, were not seeing any sort of wetness, moisture out on the ground right now. I mean even out here on the boardwalk, it is very dry. But we of course expect that to change as the morning progresses, as we start to get more of the snow falling and accumulating because the temperatures are dropping. And just driving up here on the Atlantic City expressway garden state parkway, of course, those did not look very bad at the moment. But of course, as we get more into the morning, we expect those conditions to change. Atlantic county government offices are opening at 9 00 a little bit later than usual. And we are, of course keeping our eye on any School Delays or cancellations as they come in. For now, though it is very light snow flurries here in ocean city. Im matt delucia, nbc 10 news. All right, matt. Thats what the snow looks like in ocean city. Heres what it looks like down south. Heres the scene last night in the western portion of north carolina. Drivers on an interstate there had a tough time making it up a steep grade. And the heavy snow stuck. As much as five inches dropped visibility down to less than half a mile. And we have new information on a fire at cleveland elementary in allentown. The districts superintendent tells us the school will be closed for eight weeks during repairs. Classes are canceled today. Starting tomorrow buses will take students to two other schools in allentown. The fire marshal tells us that it appears an electrical problem sparked a small fire that caused a lot of smoke damage. In bucks county this high school will open on time after a water main break sent students home early yesterday. School officials said the busted pipe did not cause any flooding or damage to the school. 5 04. Following breaking news, two people are dead after gunfire in the grays ferry section in philadelphia near 27th and latona. Our Monique Braxton is live on scene where bullet casings litter the ground. Monique, what can you tell us . Reporter hi i arrived here just before the top of the hour. Ive had a chance to talk to both crime scene investigators as well as detectives. They tell us about 2 30 this morning, there was gunfire here in the middle of the 2700 block of latona. They say two men have passed away. According to what we were able to notice at the scene, there were about nine markings for shell casings. I did ask what type of weapons they believe were used. I was told that a. 9millimeter gun, at least one, was used in the double shooting. It happened here in the middle of the street. Investigators have just cleared the scene. The forensic unit has just departed the scene. But they tell us at this point, there is no suspect in custody. So they will be scouring the area looking for Surveillance Video cameras. Theyll also be talking to any witnesses who heard and saw what happened here at about 2 30 this morning. But for now, two men are dead. Both 23 years of age. Shot at least twice on their bodies. And at least five casings littering the street here in latona. Were going to continue to follow this investigation and get an update from detectives as soon as possible. Live for now from grays ferry, Monique Braxton, nbc 10 news. Also new from overnight, a 34yearold woman dies after a shooting in north philadelphia. Police say someone fired 11 shots at the victim as she drove on west westmoreland street. The victim was rushed to temple hospital where she died. Police do not have a motive or a suspect. 5 06 now. Check out these flames. Theyre from a business fire in bucks county last night. Sky force 10 brought you these pictures as breaking news at 11 00. The fire broke out at spencers landscaping at reese and lincoln avenues. No one was hurt. No other buildings had damage. But it was a big fire. It raged out of control for about an hour. The fire is out this morning. Nbc 10 spoke with the companys leasing agent. He said he knows who started the fire. From what i understand Harvey Spencer from spencers landscaping was at the shop grinding something and some sparks flew and then a gas can blew up and then he just couldnt put it out. Firefighters told us their biggest challenge was having to deal with frozen fire hydrants. And this morning the firefighters who were injured in that devastating house explosion in ocean county are talking about their experience surviving the blast. Its a story youll only see on nbc 10 news. And our vai sikahema joins us live with more on what those men call the most frightening moment of their careers. Not only that chris, they were more heroic than we first believed, despite suffering concussions and temporary rathering loss, the stafford township volunteer firefighters continued their rescue efforts. And we showed them the new video of the explosion in stafford township and the aftermath of it. Six firefighters were hurt that day, but they did not stop. They went back for seven injured gas workers including two who were covered under a pile of debris. The crew talked about the moments following the blast. Surreal. Your body couldnt process it fast enough. Somebody or something, someone above was looking out for us. I got, in my heart, the best Fire Department there is. 125 15 people were injured. The firefighters responded to Hurricane Sandy and also a tornado after sandy, but nothing could ever match what happened to them on tuesday. Happening today in harrisburg the Pennsylvania House is expected to approve a bill that would privatize wine and liquor sales across the state. The measure calls for eliminating state store systems that have been around for more than 80 years. It would also allow beer distributors and Grocery Stores to buy licenses to sell wine and spirits with some restrictions. Opponents say the bill is a cash grab that would cost thousands of jobs. The state senate would need to approve the bill, but the governor has said many times hell veto the measure if it reaches him. Now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. Conditions are quickly changing. We went on the air at 4 00 just cloudy skies. Since then snow has fallen in cape may. This is how it looked 15 minutes ago when the snow was just starting, very light snowfall. You could see a dusting on the sidewalk. Fast forward to right now, and this is the same view of cape may. You can see the visibility has come down. Thats an indication of some heavier snowfall. Still waiting, though for snow in philadelphia. Its not that far away. Well see light snow this morning. But only this morning. This ones just going to be out of here for this afternoon. The radar shows the leading edge of that snow now pushing through Newcastle County into salem county and parts of Gloucester County in new jersey even chester, lancaster and burkes county will see slownowflakes this morning. Delaware and south jersey where youll see accumulating snow. A dusting, less than half inch likely in Newcastle County. But the farther south and east you go the more youll see. Two to four inches in cape may county. But by far the heaviest snowfall is already falling in southern delaware in Sussex County. This is where we could see three to six inches during the day today. And it will be going by 8 00 9 00 this morning. Even north and west very light snowfall. By 9 00 the steadiest, heaviest snow still in delaware and south jersey especially right along the coast. By 10 00, you see it tapering off north and west. By 11 00, well its looking pretty steady in south jersey at that hour. As we go into noon and 1 00 thats when well see it quickly taper off. Light snow for philadelphia. Could see a dusting to half an inch. 20s for most of the day. Well probably hit 31 degrees this afternoon as clouds will be drying up this afternoon. Making weekend plans . Count on sunshine for saturday. But sunday the clouds are back. And by sunday evening, were tracking some more wet weather. A chance of some snow and rain. Sevenday forecast. On tuesday voters shot down one tax increase that would have covered the cost of growing enrollment and expenses and another that would have funded afterschool and arts programs. District Officials Say they may go back to voters or make painful budget cuts or both. And trentons mayor is skl local, county and state leaders for help to fix the budget shortfall. The mayor says students have left the district to attend alternative schools and that has led to a drop in revenue. The District Administration must do more. We must promote our successes. Talk about our improved Graduation Rates in 2014, and our reduction in our dropout rate. Now, the district may have to lay off several hundred employees in order to close that budget gap. The southeast delco School District will hold its first Board Meeting after two families filed a lawsuit saying administrators did not protect their children from an alleged child molester. It involves paul hoshwender. Hes awaiting sentencing after pleading no contest to charges he abused at least nine students. Well, the families of two 8yearold victims say the district did not check hoshwenders background that would have shown similar abuse complaints in his past. Officials in massachusetts have arraigned a man accused of kidnapping his 3yearold daughter. Mike at trotta cried and held a picture of his daughter during the arraignment yesterday. Police say he assaulted his girlfriend monday and took off with the 3yearold girl. An fbi s. W. A. T. Team found them tuesday night in spencer, massachusetts. The girl and her mother are now back together at home. New jersey authorities are revealing new details in their Death Investigation of the Cooper UniversityHealth Systems ceo and his wife. John and Joyce Sheridan died last september. The state Attorney Generals Office confirmed to nbc 10 that joyce died from a stab wound to her chest. Investigators ruled her death a homicide, but theyre still looking into the cause and manner of her husband, johns, death. Now, firefighters found the sheridans inside the master bedroom of their Burning House in somerset county. So far there are no arrests or identified suspects in the case. 5 18. Happening today, a judge will hear arguments over the future of the pier shops at caesars. This afternoon attorneys for a philadelphia developer and caesars Atlantic City will hold a teleconference with a judge. Now, blatstein wants to redevelop the mall, but caesars says that it owns the pier where the mall sits. The company says blatsteins is has no right to move forward with plans. Another casino has the goahead to offer online gambling. Yesterday state gaming officials ruled that resorts can move forward with internet betting. The casino just finished a fiveday testing period. You can now play online slots and table games and bet with real money. Resorts is the sixth Atlantic City casino to offer internet gambling. There are more lane closures scheduled next week for a stretch of i495 in delaware. The bridge over the Christina River was found last year to be dangerously unstable. So on monday two northbound lanes and one southbound lane near the casino river will be closed between 9 00 a. M. And 3 00 p. M. Two additional days will be needed to finish repair work but those have not yet been scheduled. Well remind you of that on monday, but today well focus on the snow. Whenever snow impacts the future, i pull in bills weather radar over my traffic map so you can really see which roads will be impacted where you are. So taking this down to southern delaware right now, specifically in millsboro at route 113 and 4 24. This is what it looks like. You can see the snow and the tire marks. We are seeing a lot of that snow falling in southern delaware. You can expect to see slippery conditions. Deldot officials have already sent out a tweet about an hour ago saying to make sure you watch out for those plow trucks that will be on the roads and use caution because those plow trucks will be moving slowly. That snow will be falling this morning, coming to an end this afternoon. Thats when well be drying out. But shoveling will be necessary in delaware and south jersey. And well see some light accumulation in philadelphia. Allentown right now, 20 degrees. See some scattered snow showers during the day today. 29. Thats down from where it was just a short time ago. And Atlantic City is now at 30 degrees. Look at cape may. You can see snow accumulating on the sidewalk there. The snow is steady at this hour. And steady for most of the morning at the shore. Its moving up from the south. It is already in delaware all across delaware and pushing quickly into south jersey. It wont be long before well start to see snowflakes in philadelphia. But the heaviest snow already in southern delaware and south jersey. And thats where most of its going to stay. This is a fast mover. Heres the tail end of the system. You can see its already starting to come to an end in Western North carolina extreme western virginia. We will see it and early this afternoon. If not before in some areas. Steady snowfall at 9 00 this morning across delaware and south jersey tapering off by this afternoon. Look at the snow totals potentially three to six in southern delaware. Two to four inches possible for not only central delaware but for much of south jersey. But farther north and west an inch or less and still expecting about a dusting in philadelphia. So stand by for some light snow this morning. And then clouds this afternoon. The temperatures will stay between 27 and 31 degrees during the day today. Tomorrow, it will be colder in the morning. 17 degrees to start with. A high of 28. A brief snow shower is possible on friday. But well get sunshine on saturday. The deadline is approaching for Credit Card Companies to send out more secure cards to customers, but not all of them are ready. Experts say those companies are lagging behind their own october deadline. The new cards with i will have a chip in them that replace the magnetic strip. A recent study shows only three in ten people currently have those new cards. In Delaware County wegman shoppers will soon be able to have a drink in the store.
