Detectives say Ismaaiyl Brinsley told people on the street to watch what im going to do just before the shootings. Also on brinsleys instagram page, he wrote they take one of ours, lets take two of theirs. Investigators believe that brinsley was motivated by anger toward the Police Following the recent grand jury decisions in ferguson and new york. This didnt solve anything. The only thing that this did was take fathers away from their children, take kids away from their parents. President obama has offered full support and federal assistance to the nypd in the wake of the killings. In response to whats happened in new york, weve been talking to Philadelphia Police commissioner Charles Ramsey about the issues facing police and the environment that theyre working in. Reporter well, rosemary, Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey told us that he was concerned about the Police Protests weve seen around the country over the last few weeks, that they would trigger some kind of negative ripple effect, and now we have two fallen officers in new york. It wasnt like a highrisk operation or something, when you know that youre really putting your life at risk. I mean, just sitting in the car, maybe just looking out of the window. And then all of a sudden, someone comes up and just murders you. Reporter thats reaction from Philadelphia Police commissioner Charles Ramsey about the Deadly Police shootings in brooklyn this weekend. He is currently a leader of president obamas task force on community policing. The goal of that task force over the next few months is to figure out how to improve the relationship between police around the country and those who feel disenfranchised. We do need to deal with a lot of very serious issues. Thats why this task force that the president s put together is so important. And it wont change what we do, but it does add a sense of urgency now that we do definitely need to focus, get something to him as quickly as possible. Meantime, officers in new jersey are taking extra caution after the statewide police union issued an alert following the deadly violence in brooklyn. We spoke with the president of camden metros fraternal order of police about what the union is advising its officers to do. Right now i would really have them concentrate on their surroundings and make sure that theyre aware of whats going on and where theyre at when theyre writing their reports or taking a break. Officers in camden held this Community Outreach yesterday for several dozen families. They hope that events like this will improve the publics relationship with police. And this weekend, about 1,000 demonstrators united in center city for one of the largest rallies and marches yet through philadelphia. The group blackout philly began at 15th and arch with their hands up and then made their way around city hall. Their message, fight hate with love. Men, women and children called for a change in Race Relations and policing across the country. I think its a good thing, because we should be talking about Race Relations. I think that its a huge problem in the United States right now. You know whats beautiful, this is when you know americas changing, when young, white people are standing up across the world saying black lives matter. Protesters marched for hours, making it to the steps of the art museum, shutting down some city streets. The protest was peaceful and police say there were no arrests. Today, Souderton Area High School will hold a vigil for two of the victims of last weeks killing spree in Montgomery County. Ninth grader nina flick was killed. Her 17yearold brother, anthony flick, a junior at the high school, was seriously injured. He is the only survivor of the attack. Police say the violence happened in three locations in Montgomery County, harleysville, lansdale and souderton. Members of four generations of one family were killed. The murders sparked an intense manhunt for former military veteran bradley stone. Police say stone killed his exwife, her mother, grandmother, sister, brotherinlaw and niece. Stones body was found two days later about a half a mile from his house in hanover township. He had cuts on his body, but authorities have not released the cause of death. In the wake of the violence in Montgomery County, the community is getting some muchneeded help. Crisis counselors are holding a meeting tonight to help those affected by the murders. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live at the meeting site in lansdale. Jesse, tell us more. Reporter tracy, there is going to be a Community Meeting here inside the parks and recreation building. The Services Offered here are going to be offered to residents of communities outside of this borough that also suffered through the killing spree. The six murders allegedly committed by bradley stone a week ago prompted Lansdale Police to request help from the countys Victims Community service program. At tonights presentation, people will hear about crisis and Supportive Counseling Services that are offered. Police say exmarine bradley stone killed six members of his wifes family, including joanne koder and patricia hill. The crime has created a cascading wave of emotions. Theyre scared. Theyre scared to go back into their homes. And you know, theyre concerned about that. Even though they werent witness to the actual tragic event, they saw everything that was going on. Reporter this type of help has been around for decades, but this is the first time that police have actually called and asked them to come in and set up a meeting. New from overnight, the search is on for two masked men who robbed a 7eleven in Montgomery County. Police on the scene at 54th and city avenue in lower merion township told us that the men were armed with guns when they walked into the store around 12 30 this morning. One worker was hurt. Police are not sure exactly how much cash the robbers grabbed before they ran off. Also new from overnight, crews are trying to figure out what caused a fire at a Halfway House in camden. Flames broke out at the building along magnolia avenue around 11 30 last night. Everybody made it out safely. There are no reports of any injuries. There is a new clue to report in the disappearance of shane montgomery. Divers searching the Schuylkill River yesterday found a set of keys belonging to the missing West Chester University student. The 21yearold disappeared early thanksgiving morning after leaving a bar on main street in manayunk. Last night, st. John the Baptist Church in manayunk held its Tree Lighting in honor of shane. Parishioners and friends and family decorated the tree with green ribbons as a symbol of hope for answers in shanes disappearance. We are all part of shanes family now, not a blood line, but were all part of this. Its captured us all. And theres a momentum and a solidarity, i think, that speaks to the human condition. Fbi officials said earlier this month that shane had been walking between the Manayunk Canal and the Schuylkill River soon after he left the bar. Now your nbc 10 first alert weather. The man you see here risked his life to save others during a deadly shooting in Montgomery County. Bernard kozen will be honored by the Carnegie Community funds commission. He helped tackle and disarm a gunman who stormed into a municipal meeting in 2013. Police say the suspected gunman, rockney newell, shot and killed three people at that meeting and is currently awaiting trial and could face the death penalty. A Court Hearing is scheduled today for the suspect in a decadesold child murder case in new york city. Pedro hernandez is charged with killing 6yearold etan patz in 1979, but it wasnt until 2012 when Police Arrested hernandez. Family members and friends alerted investigators that they believed hernandez was responsible. The judge is now weighing whether or not to allow testimony from witnesses hypnotized in the 35yearold case. A ruling could come as early as this week. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty. Etan patz vanished in 1979 while walking to his bus stop in new york city. His body was never found. He was one of the first missing children to appear on a milk carton. A Chester County man will spend the rest of his life in prison for shooting and killing his longtime girlfriend. Gregory twyman pleaded guilty to firstdegree murder in the death of jamica woods. Prosecutors say the murder was premeditated. Before the murder, twyman changed his Twitter Photo to a shotgun and profile picture to a shotgun shell, the same kind used to kill woods. Comments on the page also helped prosecutors show he planned the crime. In Montgomery County, a teenager will spend the rest of his life behind bars for the stabbing death of his girlfriend last year. A judge has sentenced 18yearold Tristan Stahley to life in prison without the possibility of parole. A jury convicted him of firstdegree murder for killing 17yearold julie siller. Authorities say he stabbed her more than 70 times on a hiking trail in skippack. Look at these two suspects. Police in Chester County say they are responsible for a violent Home Invasion and theyre still on the loose. West Whiteland Police say Leonard Bernard knocked on a 76yearold womans door last night, pretending to be with a Home Health Care company. He then allegedly forced his way inside, tied up the woman and stole her jewelry. Bernard and his alleged accomplice, breanna mitchell, on the right, are now both facing a number of charges. It is 5 16. U. S. Senator chris coons of delaware is in west africa today taking a firsthand look at u. S. Efforts to stop the spread of ebola. And this morning he will hold a news briefing from liberia. Senator coons is the first member of congress to visit liberia since the Ebola Outbreak began. He will arrive back in delaware tomorrow afternoon. One doctor in charge of an Ebola Treatment Center in sierra leone said poor training is a challenge. Hes the only doctor in charge of a staff of 260. Right now, 27 patients are being treated there. The doctor said he wears protective gear but has never had any formal training on proper use of the gear. He also said his staff hasnt been paid in weeks. Nbcs tom brokaw is reporting good news about himself. He says his cancer is in remission. In a note to colleagues, he called it very encouraging news. Brokaw announced he will soon begin a drug Maintenance Program after months of chemotherapy. Last february, the 74yearold revealed that he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a cancer affecting blood cells in the blood marrow. Drivers are getting an extra special holiday gift this year. Gas prices are the lowest they have been in five years. The National Average price for regular unleaded has fallen to 2. 45 a gallon, 15 cents less than a week ago. Analysts say unless there is a major disruption in crude oil, prices should stay low through the start of the new year. Here is where the prices stand right now in our area. In the fivecounty philadelphia area, the average is 2. 69 for a gallon of regular gas. People in delaware are shelling out about 2. 55 a gallon. And the lowest prices are in south jersey, where a gallon costs 2. 37. The positive news on the gas prices, we cant promise that for the traffic this morning.
