An alternate is berlin cross keys road, because that section of roadway is off limits. Its closed right now. And taking a look at your average speeds on some of your major new jersey roads, in the 50s, in the 60s on 295, so youre looking good there. And also, a live look at 42 freeway right at creek road. The headlights are northbound headed towards the area bridges in center city, philadelphia. Chris . 5 01 now. Nbc 10 is still on the scene of some breaking news in wins llow township, where a family was rushed to the hospital, just moments ago, in fact, because of Carbon Monoxide in their home. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live in sicklerville now with more to tell us. In the last update, you brought in the battalion chief for a live interview. It was a very revealing interview. He said that, actually, a 9yearold girl answered the door at this home when they responded to a 911 call, right . Reporter chris, she answered the door when Police Arrived and she collapsed. You see the front door right there. Right now, Fire Department officials are venting the house. Theyve been doing this for the past about 40 minutes, trying to get the co levels down to zero. The battalion chief said that they were three times the normal amount, and so, it is a very dangerous situation. As a matter of fact, said these people were very fortunate they were able to call 911 and get the Fire Department here to get them out of the house before they died, because this could have been a situation where you had at least maybe one fatality, if not more. The people, the child, mother and father taken to two separate hospitals in berlin and in voorhees. They say the leak is down in the basement and they are trying to secure that right now. New from overnight, police were called out to a Burlington County motel after shots were fired inside one of the rooms. Nbc 10 was at the knights inn on route 73 in mt. Laurel as police investigated what happened. They tell us people inside that room were playing with a gun. It went off. Nobody was hurt. Firefighters rescued a woman from a burning home in philadelphia on belfield avenue in germantown. When crews got there, heavy flames were coming from the back of this house. Firefighters pulled a 60yearold woman from the home. She was taken to the hospital and is said to be doing okay. No word yet on what caused the fire. 5 03 now. Happening later today, camdens School Superintendent is kicking off a twoweek, schoolbyschool tour to talk with families about how to get the district going in the right direction. Now, this comes after new test results show that most students are not making the grade in camden. Standardized tests show only one in five students in the district are considered proficient in english. Students put up similar numbers with math as well. Those results are about the same as last year after standardized testing. The superintendent says it all starts with better facilities and instruction and having effective leadership that communicates with families. Also today, critics of pennsylvanias Public Schools are taking their complaints to court. Today, six School Districts will join parents and the naacp to announce legal action against the state. Those groups claim the governor, lawmakers and state education officials are responsible for a School Funding system that is skewed against equal funding for racially diverse districts. Details of that suit will be announced at 11 00 this morning in harrisburg, and you can count on nbc 10 to bring you the details. In salem county, we have new information in the case of a School Board Member and a councilwoman who are charged with assaulting a police officer. This stems from an incident back in july which was caught on video, showing Walter Hudson throwing the officer to the ground. Attorneys for hudson and Jeanette Jackson filed a complaint against pennsgrove borough, saying that it failed to comply with an ordinance to pay their legal fees. Investigators say hudson and jackson became upset with the officer, who was questioning some teenagers about underage drinking. We could learn this week if charges will be filed against the student whos accused of knocking out a substitute teacher at Bartram High School in southwest philadelphia. This video shows that teacher, pewu johnson, lying motionless in the hallway after the attack last week. This was the third time a teacher was assaulted at bartram in the past month. 5 05 now. Were following some new information in a disturbing case out of Chester County. The Coatesville Area School district is now investigating to see if a 6yearold abuse victim was absent from school for days. Gary fellenbaum and jillian tait are accused of systemically torturing her two sons at their home. 3yearold Scotty Mcmillan died from that alleged torture. His 6yearold brother is in protective custody. According to the daily local news, police say that 6yearold was absent from school for about two weeks leading up to his brothers death. The School District has not confirmed that, but it did say that it is conducting an internal investigation. Later this week, the man accused of abducting carlesha freelandgaither in philadelphia will be arraigned in a separate case in virginia. Devlin barnes is scheduled to be in court on wednesday on charges of rape and attempted murder. Thats in connection with the abduction of a 16yearold richland girl who Authorities Say was brutally beaten, raped and doused with bleach and gas. Barnes, youll remember, what captured in maryland when gaither was rescued three days after she was grabbed off a germantown street. 5 06 now. And happening later today, deliberations are expected to begin in the assault trial of a former decorated Philadelphia Police officer. Prosecutors say Richard Decoatsworth beat his then livein girlfriend last year at their home in port richmond. Decoatsworth spent more than a year in jail after also being accused of rape and Human Trafficking on charges involving two other women. Those charges were dropped, but the Assault Charges stuck. Decoatsworth retired from the force in 2011 after a fiveyear career. Also today, the trial begins for another former Philadelphia Police officer. Kevin corcoran is accused in the false imprisonment of an air force veteran. The incident was captured on cell phone video. It happened last march in center city. Prosecutors say corcoran roughed up roderick king, put him in his suv, then took him to an alley. King claims he was never told he was under arrest and corcoran only let him go after he told him that he was in the air force. Police in Chester County say a family fight over money led to an attempted murdersuicide that left the shooter braindead and the victim clinging to life. Officers tell us that 70yearold John Richard Berry shot a Family Member before shooting himself saturday night at a home in paoli. Berry is now on life support. The victim, john williams, is in very critical condition. And look at this video. The Investigation Continues here in New Castle County as authorities try to figure out what caused a man to lose control of his car and crash into a house. Police say the 27yearold driver was on old wilmington road in hockessin when he went off the road, went airborne and crashed into the second floor of a barn that had been converted into a home. Thankfully, no one inside was hurt. The driver had minor injuries. Philadelphias helping the u. S. Marine corps celebrate its 239th birthday. A ceremony will happen this morning at city hall. The celebration will then move to the tuns tavern sign where the marines held their very first recruitment drive during the american revolution. And tomorrow, our nation celebrates veterans day. As always, a lot of events happening across our area. At rider university, students have placed 10,000 american flags on a campus lawn. These are pictures from last year. A clear and cold start to the workweek. The temperatures have dropped into the 30s. Its a cold morning, but were going to see a lot of sunshine today and a real turnaround, into the 60s for today. In fact, the next few days, well see temperatures in the 60s. But at the end of the week, the cold is back, and this time with some showers. Theres a chance well see the first snowflakes of the season. Right now, 31 degrees in allentown. Its 35 in northeast philadelphia. Millville is 31. Certainly cold enough for snow, but theres no cloud cover around it. Its clear. This is a nice, clear view of center city from the adventure aquarium. So, well get a lot of sunshine. Looking pretty good. Look at the warmup. Hour by hour, 10 00, upper 40s in philadelphia, 50s for millville, dover and cape may. No sign of the 30s that were starting off with this morning, and bright sunshine with temperatures into the upper 50s to low 60s later today. This is 3 00 this afternoon. Look at 60 degrees in philadelphia, northeast philadelphia and mt. Holly, upper 50s for allentown. Reading could hit 60 degrees today and it will get very close to the 60degree mark in millville, too. And notice, too, the winds will become more southerly. Theyll be pretty light to start with, or nonexistent to start with. A little southerly wind helps to boost our temperatures. So, nice and mild. Normal high temperatures in the upper 50s. If you are taking 476 going north, it will take you about 18 minutes between 476 and 76. 95 is good. 76 is looking good as well westbound between the vine street and the blue route. And on 95, speaking of 95, if youre driving in center city, average speeds in the 50s right now, right near girard avenue and allegheny, so thats pretty good. Locally, were following breaking news out of sicklerville, Camden County where a mother, a father and a 9yearold girl are taken to the hospital because of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Well check with him in about 15 minutes. And at 5 15, a lot of people talking about this. A Police Sergeant in new york has been suspended after video appears to show him slapping a man. Want [ bleep ] to resist . I am not resisting. You want [ bleep ] to resist . That video was taken friday night in half moon out albany. Two men say they were confronted by Sergeant Shawn glans in a parking lot and he questioned them about a rifle in the back of the car. The rifle belongs to colin fitch, who says he tried to remain calm as glans became more agitated. [ bleep ] why . [ bleep ] you cant do that, though. You want to [ bleep ] resist . I am not resisting. You want [ bleep ] to resist . A spokesperson for the Sheriffs Department says the video is disturbing. Glans has been suspended without pay. He says the video does not show the whole story. We have new information about a deadly plane crash in the bahamas. This morning officials will begin their investigation to figure out what caused the small plane to crash, killing all nine people on board. Myles munroe, the leader of bahamas Faith Ministries died in the crash, along with his wife. The plane was trying to land in freeport for a Global Leadership forum. This morning, drivers of the Ridesharing Service uberx could be arrested. Thats the threat from the philadelphia Parking Authority. Uberx launched in philadelphia in late october. Its a smartphone appbased service that lets people use their personal cars to make money by giving people rides, basically, an unregulated taxi. The ppa has been fining uberx drivers 1,000 and impounding their cars. Now those drivers could be charged. The Parking Authority says the service is illegal in philadelphia. Uberx, though, says its all about Consumer Choice. Theyre not licensed, theyre not inspected. We dont know what type of insurance there are. Its a half cab service, and theyre trying to bully their way in. Now, uberx is a part of uber, which is considered a Limousine Service and has been legally operating in the city for a few years now, regulated by the ppa. Uber released a statement, saying in part, the ppas actions are intentionally harmful and transparently anticompetitive, deliberately attacking Consumer Choice to protect big taxis wallet is a disservice to the people of philadelphia who deserve greater transportation options. So, this is in swarthmore, Delaware County, route 320, which is chester road, between Baltimore Pike and route 252. Its going to be closed all day between 9 00 and 3 00 p. M. So, an alternate you can take is 252 to get around that stretch of road, which is closed off. A live look right now at route 1. The temperatures have plummeted there, and thats the colder air thats going to be on the way to our region later this week. We could see some snowflakes as well later this week, nothing like what minneapolis is getting, however. Right now what were looking at, clear skies. Its cold this morning, certainly cold enough for snow, but with clear skies, well see lots of sunshine today. 39 degrees and falling for most of the area right now. Little to no wind. Look at the flag here at the nbc 10 studios, not moving at all. Its the temperatures that will be moving to start with. Theyre coming down. 31 in pottstown. Trenton is at 34 degrees. And while its 39 degrees at philadelphia international, its 35 right now in camden and just below freezing for haddonfield, voorhees right at the freezing mark this morning. So, its a bundle up kind of morning. We are taracking a few clouds. High clouds north and west. No showers with the clouds, and those clouds will thin out. Well see plenty of sunshine today. Then, follow this farther back and you can see the snow thats falling, not only in minneapolis but to the east in wisconsin and to the west for the dakotas and into montana, even parts of wyoming getting some of that snow. Hampton, good morning. Hi, tracy. Yeah, gm reportedly ordered 500,000 replacement ignition switches last december. Now, that was two months before alerting safety regulators about the issue that prompted a massive global recall. The wall street journal says emails between gm and its supplier, delphi automotive, show the company placed an urgent order. At least 30 deaths have been linked to the faulty switches. Nissan is recalling more than 52,000 vehicles that are equipped with defective takata airbags. The airbags can explode with too much force in a crash, spraying metal shrapnel. The recall affects older models of the nissan pathfinder, sentra and several infinity models. Retailers and restaurants are rolling out the freebees for veterans day. Vets can get free haircuts on tuesday at great clips, applebees, chilis and California Pizza Kitchen are offering free meals to vets and active military members, while Golden Corral has a free buffet dinner.
