And theres still some precipitation. Snow and freezing rain that were tracking right now. Not in philadelphia however. Thats boathouse row which has clouds overhead. No, its delaware and into extreme south jersey that is seeing the wet weather this morning. First the freezing rain that is falling in central and southern delaware. And trying to reach into the cape may area. And its cold enough they cape may may be icing up this morning. Adding to the ice on the ground and the snow on top of it thats a slippery situation. You can see in central New Castle County and reaching into salem county this morning, the rest of the area is dry, but theres ice on the ground. And with these temperatures, its going nowhere. Pottstown, 25 degrees. 26 in trenton. And upper 20s for the rest of the i95 corridor. Thats cold enough for anything untreated to be slippery this morning. Add to that a wind to make for a blustery day today. But in philadelphia it will be dry. Cloudy at 7 00 26 degrees. 30 degrees at 9 00. By lunchtime, the melting process will be underway with a temperature of 35. And it will still be climbing at that hour. Well go through it hour by hour and neighborhood by neighborhood when i come back in ten minutes. But right now well go to first alert traffic reporter jillian mele. Good morning. A few minutes ago i looked at the cameras in bucks county and the majors were looking accident. No accidents there. The main accident this morning is in new jersey. The turnpike southbound at route 18 and exit 9. Thats where traffic is being diverted. And off the highway because of the accident happening closer to exit 8. You can take route 130 as your exit there. This accident happened overnight with cleanup happening on the turnpike southbound near exit 8 near route 33. This is part of the tractortrailer jackknifed. The cab is still out there with debris on the highway. The crews still have a lot of work and cleanup to do. So this is going to be blocked off for quite some time this morning. Again, route 130 is going to be your best bet to get around it. Chris . Thank you, jillian. Video of the deadly turnpike crash happened after 9 00 last night in cranberry township. One person was killed and Dozens Injured after the tractortrailer jackknifed. Heres cell phone video taken by one of the people caught up in the mess. More than 20 vehicles were involved, seven trucks a fully loaded bus and 15 cars. And investigators say, yes, icy conditions may have played a part in the accident but the official cause is still under investigation. But it goes to say that just stepping out your front door this morning could be dangerous as you head out. So be aware. Right. And the walkways the roads, other surfaces could be coated with a sheet of ice that may just look wet. It can be very slippery. Katy zachry is live in wayne, delaware county. Tell us what it is like there. Tracy and chris, if you follow us on twitter, many of us have nearly fallen when we walked out our front door and walked to our car. So what im doing right now, im doing it pretty carefully because you see a light layer, very light glow but its snow. Underneath that is definitely ice. So what youre dealing with is a lot of the surfaces even the road this is lancaster avenue in wayne right now, they were wet overnight. Because temperatures are well below freezing you are obviously having the freezing effect. If we take it over here even this mulch, the walk from the truck to the sidewalk you can see the ice glistening. It is a complete sheet of ice. It was really difficult to actually walk across this mulch because the traction on your shoes can only help so much. So this is the takeaway this morning. Its icy out there, especially until 6 00 7 00. And when out on the roadways even if it doesnt look like black ice, chances are they are still very slippery. We have seen a number of salt trucks salting parking lots and areas that may not have been treated last night. So just keep that in mind if youre headed out this morning. The fight had taken off from philadelphia and made a crash landing in houston. Vai sikahema is following this story from the Digital Operations Center this morning. Vai . The rough landing forced the pilot into a crash landing. It was an American Airlines flight operated by u. S. Air. And it was operated from Philadelphia International airport flying into george bush intercontinental airport in houston. Right now we are waiting from video from the overnight News Conference from our sister station in houston. But heres what we know right now. There were 52 passengers and 4 crew members on the flight that landed just before 10 30 last night. Evacuations were made using the slides of the plane. One passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Well continue to monitor this situation to bring you information as we get it into the newsroom. Its delaware and into south jersey where we are seeing the light snow in New Castle County central New Castle County into salem county and farther to the south we have freezing rain. Its starting to thing out in dover, but southern kent county Sussex County and Cape May County, watch out for icing conditions this morning. Though it is dry to the north and west it is still ice covered in many areas that have been untreated as the temperatures are still solidly below freezing. 29 in wilmington with that light snow just to the south. Philadelphia is at 28 degrees with 26 in trenton. The middle 20s at brandywine airport. West chester, 25 degrees. Glenmoore, 25. 25 in phoenixville. Everyone has similar temperatures. We are all in the cold this morning, so if its on top ground, it is frozen. But in the sky, as the day goes on the temperatures will slowly be climbing. Most of the morning will be frozen, but well get breaks of sunshine this afternoon at 2 00. Well see the clouds around with temperatures and a big improvement, 38 degrees in philadelphia. Allentown and reading also in the upper 30s with melting that will continue into the early evening hours. The clouds will be thinning out. By 8 00 well see the freezing mark, but before then the melting will take place during the day. Then our attention will turn to thursday and we will track the light snow that is a possibility for our area. For today, though we should stay dry. This is in the outer drive of the new jersey turnpike southbound. You can go ahead and take route 130 that is going to be a good option for you there. Now, when it comes to the weather were talking about. Especially waking up in delaware, this area specifically, well go ahead and change this camera for you to get a good idea of what the roadways look like in that area. There we go. The roads in that area are looking wet right now. Thats what we are seeing all along the southern portion of delaware. So for drivers in louis, if you are waking up near Rehoboth Beach or north to dover, well see the rainy and slippery freezing rain conditions out there. The 11yearold girl accused of killing a baby will undergo a psychological evaluation. The 11yearold girl entered a not guilty plea in court yesterday. The mother was baby sitting the 2monthold infant for a friend. After the mom fell asleep the 11yearold took the baby upstairs and beat her to death. Lacerations of the kidney and the liver. And multiple Blunt Force Trauma to both the head and torso. Basically this baby was beaten to death. If convicted in the babys murder, the girl could be locked up until she turns 21. Police shot a man who led them on this wild chase through traffic. He tried to carjack other drivers when officers closed in on him. Police say the man stole a car just outside of los angeles around 5 00 last night. The driver blew through the intersection and collided with several cars before jumping out to steel another car at gunpoint. Look at him go there trying to get into that one. The chase kept going until he got stuck between two other vehicles. He tried to steal more cars but officers shot him. He was arrested and taken to the hospital. 4 46 now. Witnesses will be back on the stand today in the trial of a Police Officer in Gloucester County who is accused of falsely arresting a new jersey assemblyman. Washington township Police OfficerJoseph Ventura is facing charges stemming from the 2012 arrest of assemblyman paul moriarity. The officer claims that moriarity was driving drunk but he says he wasnt and is being targeted by a political opponent. His defense could start to make its case later this week. A jury is ready to hear the reallife american sniper case this morning. In the trial against eddie routh who is accused of killing chris kyle and his friend at a gun range in 2013. The movie american sniper is based on kyles autobiography. And a Catholic School basketball coach resigned in the allegations of being involved in a Smear Campaign with players from another school. Joe bishop spread rumors about two girls who played on the Basketball Team and allegedly said the girls from nigeria are older than they claimed and in the u. S. Illegally. In the wake of the attention, gallagher resigned. A suit is being claimed against a Police Officer following his videotaped arrest. Stop touching me. Stop touching me. The officer grabbed him and hit him while recording him. Then officers tackled him to the ground and restrained him. I wasnt under arrest until you beat me on the ground. Police charged him with resisting arrest and. Internal affairs is investigating. New legislation in pennsylvania hopes the streets and rights of rape victims in the state. The bill was introduced yesterday in harrisburg to specifically help the rights of the victim of sexual assault. The courts would consider if custody of the child is granted to the rapist. And the offender would be obligated to pay Child Support even if rights are terminated. And delaware has a new director of the Forensic Science center. The Delaware Medical Examiners Office was the center of a scandal last year involving evidence tampering and theft at the state drug testing lab. Looking at a slippery start for much of the area even though in most areas the freezing rain sleet and snow has ended. The ice is still on the ground. We will see melting conditions this afternoon. A little bit of sunshine and temperatures climbing to near 40, but then it turns much colder as we head toward the weekend. And we will see enforcing cold air arriving for the weekend. Right now 26 degrees in reading. 28 in philadelphia. Trenton also at 26 degrees. Each of these locations is cloudy but still tracking a few showers to the south in delaware and south jersey. Right now its just clouds over center city. Well see those clouds thin out and get some sunshine this afternoon. Right now its dry in the city. But just to the south some light snow is starting to thin out into central New Castle County in delaware right now. And its a mix of sleet and freezing rain. A few snowflakes into salem county. Dover started off with some light freezing drizzle but its thinning out in northern kent county. Southern kent county into Sussex County and Cape May County could see some icing this morning. It is very light precipitation. That will come to an end. And then it will be the temperatures that were watching through the day. And with a little bit of sunshine breaking through, we will see a nice warm up this afternoon. So some melting will take place with the clouds already thinning off to the north and west. But right now were looking at cloudy starts to the day. So clouds will be breaking this afternoon. And that is really what will see us warm up in the upper 30s to lower 40s. We will see melting later on. It will refreeze if still on the ground tonight. 24 degrees. But most locations will dry up nicely throughout the day today. Sunshine and 38 on wednesday. It looks like at least the far right lane is blocked and also the shoulder in the area. Its not causing a big delay but we are seeing a lot of activity here. So its something to make you aware of. This all began when our viewers found tax documents lining in the street scattered everywhere. Well, last night the i. R. S. Agents came to our station to pick up the documents but they were found scattered over the weekend on a street. They had names on tax returns and links to the same addresses that appeared to be fraudulently used. A local tax preparer is not sure how he or his business became a target. It is not fair. Im very upset thats happening and i hope that something can be done about it. Those whose homes and businesses are affected are hoping the i. R. S. Will find out who is responsible. 4 56 and new information now on the failed Gubernatorial Campaign of former pennsylvania treasurer rob mccourt. The Political Action committee that gave 125,000 to his campaign revealed the source of its money eight months after the deadline. And the bulk of the money came from the president of the pittsburghbased Nursing Home Services committee. Last month mccourt resigned as treasurer planning to plead guilty to federal extortion charges. The university of delaware is facing criticism for lack of diversity on the campus. They are calling on the officials in charge of recruiting to recruit for black students. Pet adoptions could resume today at the spca in kent county after a mysterious virus there killed two dogs. Workers spent yesterday cleaning the First State Animal Center in spca in camden. Officials also stopped letting families take home dogs temporarily just to be safe. The veterinarians have checked each one to make sure they werent infected. If we have some kind of fatal, contagious disease, we do not want our animals going out to the community and infected the community, the canine community, with any other kind of virus. Now officials dont believe any recently adopted pets were exposed to the virus. A lab is now testing samples from the dogs that died. Two new reports out this morning show success of the nationwide School Breakfast program, but find that more work still needs to be done. During the 2013 2014 school year more than 13 million children ate breakfast at school each day. And the majority came from lowincome households. Still many of their classmates are hitting the books on an empty stomach. Most states didnt reach the federal goal of having more than 70 of students take part in the Breakfast Program and missed out on millions in government funding. Treated surfaces should be fine but its the side streets and the driveways and sidewalks that are still ice covered this morning. And in delaware were tracking some light snow and some freezing rain this morning. It is moving through New Castle County in delaware. Very light snowfall in central New Castle County that has reached at times into salem county in new jersey. And just to the south, that is freezing rain to start with in delaware and reaching into Cape May County this morning. So still some icy conditions that are happening right now. Temperatures are certainly cold enough for icy travel this morning. 28 in wilmington. Dover, which is seeing some freezing drizzle this morning, is also at 28 degrees.
