Take layoff yet street or barbados street. And the gas leak is the breaking news weve been following this morning. Firefighters and crews are trying to air out that gas leak in Montgomery County. This is happening right now along east main street in norristown. Jesse gary is live on the scene. The leak has been stopped. Whats the next step . Well they are airing out the building as you said. As a matter of fact, theyve just finished doing that. And peco crew from center city arrived. Theyre just behind that fire engine that pulled up and stopped. And that special crew from peco. Theyre going to start cutting into the sidewalk to get to the heart of the matter. The fire chief says the initial call came in as a fire at the base of a street lamp that is just off to our left. You can see it because the fire truck moved out of the way. That street lamp off to the left. Thats where the fire started, the initial call came in. They determined through an investigation that peco equipment underground was burning and producing lethal levels of carbon monoxide. Inside the building, the levels that we sound could be lethal could be dead. Would they know it . Odorless there was a risk in an explosion. Ill talk more about that coming up in the next 30 minutes. Also new this morning, police plan to arrest a local doctor and his receptionist today. The two are accused of running a pill mill out of the Doctors Office in haverford township. Steven friedman faces charges of writing painkiller prescriptions for people who he did not examine. The arrest will cap a fivemonth investigation. New from overnight, a woman in stable condition after she was shot inside her car. Nbc 10 along north 21st street in north philadelphia. The woman in her 20s says she was sitting in her car here around 1 30 this morning when a bullet hit her in the leg. Police have not arrested anyone. Happening today, Vice President joe biden will visit philadelphia to speak to a group of Democratic Leaders from the house of representatives. This is the same Group President obama spoke to last night at the society hill. Dozens of protesters gathered outside that hotel. They say the president has not been progressive enough on topics like the environment and minimum wage. Meanwhile inside mr. Obama talked about strengthening the middle class. Vice President Biden is scheduled to speak at 10 30 this morning. We have some new information this morning on an incident involving rap mogul shug night. Police are talking with him after his lawyer said he accidentally ran over and killed a friend with a pickup truck. That happened yesterday in the parking lot of a Fast Food Restaurant in los angeles. Knights lawyer says night was attacked by two people and tried to escape in the truck. The lawyer said night, again, is talking with police right now. 4 35 now. Happening later today in new york Opening Statements in the trial of the Burlington County man who is charged with murdering 6yearold etan patz. Accused of kidnapping that boy from his Lower Manhattan neighborhood in 1979. Police named him as a suspect in 2012 and arrested him last year at his home in maple shade. His defense is expected to argue that a videotape confession that hernandez made was false. Etan patz became one of the first missing children featured on milk cartons. Today, a North Hampton county man charged with killing his stepdaughter is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing. The District Attorney says gregory grass admitted to shooting jessica padgett. Police also say grass videotaped himself having sex with padgetts corpse before hiding the body on his property. Jessica padgett was a 33yearold newlywed. She went missing in november after leaving her child care job in North Hampton. Grass led them to the body nearly a week after the killing. Its 4 36 now. You can see, a few drivers on the roads right now. Chris . Well a new Ride Sharing Service called lift begins operating today. But the Philadelphia Parking Authority wants to put the brakes on it before it starts. The ppa regulates taxi service in the city and considers lift an illegal taxi operation. The agency says it will fine lift drivers 1,000. Today in delaware the governor will be speaking at a Ground Breaking he says highlights safety improvements on roads. Leaders will be the a the thompsonville road intersection in milford. Crews made changes at that intersection with route 1 where there have been more than 100 accidents in the past decade. Well, a surprise for commuters in northern jersey yesterday when a small plane landed on a busy highway. That plane landed on route 23 in west milford. Now to some, this landing seemed like a miracle. But to the pilot of this small engine cessna he did what he was trained to do head for the nearest road. After the engine started running rough, possibly from carburetter icing. I dodged a couple before you could find this open space . Correct. I saw a truck. And another car. Ahead. I put it down and just another day at the pilot. He sounded calm about it. The faa is investigating. A proposed law could turn some new jersey homeowners into crime fighters. The new plan that would force a partnership with police next. 4 55 a. M. New this morning, a bill is making its way through the new jersey state house. It would require Security Camera owners to register those cameras. The state assembly passed a bill that would allow towns to establish a registry of all private outdoor surveillance cameras on homes and businesses. Lawmakers say the move would help police with criminal investigations. The bill now heads to the state senate. Also in new jersey, new regulations for Police Military gear are on their way to becoming law. The state assembly unanimously approved two bills that were drawn up after the violence that followed the deadly shooting of an unarmed teen in ferguson, missouri, in august. One bill requires the state attorney general to review Police Department requests for gear. The other requires local governments to authorize those purchases. From our Delaware Bureau now now a new push to decriminalize marijuana. State lawmakers introduced a new measure yesterday that would impose a 100 fine for any delaware resident caught with up to an ounce of marijuana. That Means Nothing would go on your criminal record but selling the drug would still be a criminal offense. Philadelphia enacted a similar law last year. The city of philadelphia is also looking at a way to make child care more affordable. A bill just introduced to city council would offer a city wage tax credit for lowincome families who have to pay for child care. The program would have to be, quote, high quality and accredited by the state. The credit could save around 700 for a family that makes around 27,000 a year. Were following two stories this morning, and Atlantic City casino crisis. The Company Behind hard rock cafes and casinos is interested in the scene. The state of new jersey granted the company a statement of compliance at a hearing yesterday. Thats a key step toward hard rock becoming licensed to own a casino in the garden state. The company has had discussions with the developer buying the revel casino resort. Also, an update on this proposed law we told you about. Lawmakers in new jersey have a plan to bring more alist performers to the state in a move that could help a. C. Thats blake shelton. Ive seen him on the voice. Legislators introduced a bill that would spare big stars from having to pay income taxes on shows in new jersey. Under the proposal those performers would have to play at least four nights of the year in Atlantic City. Artists would be exempt from paying taxes on the a. C. Shows and shows in camden and trenton. The goal is to lure big acts to become artists in residency, which is a common practice in las vegas, too. Happening today, its media day for the philadelphia auto show. The annual event officially gets underway tomorrow at the Pennsylvania Convention center. It features hundreds of new vehicles from dozens of manufacturers that looks nice.
