Salt trucks have been out this morning just doing some of that lastminute salting. Snow is on the ground in delaware. Live look at 95 at route 1. 495 in delaware theres a speed restriction of 55 miles an hour and finally an accident in collegeville blocking both lanes of south lewis road at boro line road. A gunman shoots two people but is quickly arrested. This happened around 11 00 last night. Officers patrolling the area heard the shots, caught the alleged gunman running from the scene after the two victims pointed him out. Those victims are in stable condition. Also new from overnight, Philadelphia Police are looking for a robber who shot a clerk in the face at a Grocery Store in east germantown. The robber came into that store and demanded money. He then shot the clerk in the face and the leg. The clerk is in critical condition. A woman and child were in the store at the time. They were not hurt. 4 33 right now. Happening today, delaware governor jack markell will deliver his annual state of the state address in dover. Markell is expected to lay out his policy priorities for the coming years. Two of those priorities will be bolstering Public Education and funding infrastructure projects. State lawmakers expect the governor to also address crime in the city of wilmington and New Castle County. Nbc 10s jesse gary is live there. Tell us more about that crime issue. Reporter New Castle County police say their biggest problem is heroin. Very cheap to buy and so pure dealers are stamping their product with creative names to try to generate repeat business. What it generated is a heroin epidemic in this county. Most of the elicit trade centered on route 9 corridor. The problem so bad federal authorities designated New Castle County a high trafficking area. We have a property crime problem. We have a homicide problem. They are all roads that lead back to heroin and the heroin trade and were finally being honest about the fact that were immersed in a heroin epidemic. Reporter New Castle County police are using an innovative method of policing to get the most out of officers and partnership with federal agents. Were digging that into that and will have more in the next hour. 4 34. New this morning, president obama and Vice President joe biden will be in philadelphia next week to speak to democrats attending a threeday retreat. Democratic lawmakers will be at the Sheraton Hotel starting next wednesday to map out their legislative agenda for the new congress. Politico reports the president will speak at a dinner thursday night. The Vice President will help close out the retreat on friday. The controversy swirling around Pennsylvania Attorney general Kathleen Kane will go before the pennsylvania supreme court. Yesterday the high court unsealed records showing that the grand jury found grounds to charge the state attorney general with perjury and obstruction and more. Kane argues there was no legal basis for appointing the special prosecutor that led to the grand jury investigation. They start looking for a grand jury leak. They cant find a grand jury leak so they go and make things up. Thats exactly what this is. Im telling you that there is no leaks or they would have charged it and they didnt. The Montgomery County d. A. Will decide whether or not to indict kane. Former philadelphia tv sportscaster faces decades in prison after a bucks county jury found him guilty during his trial. The money was supposed to go to charity but charities never got money. He was convicted on all counts yesterday. Victims lost around 340,000. The judge said hell be sentenced within the next month. People in Burlington County are remembering a newborn whose death shocked the community. Nbc 10 was at a vigil last night. Mourners lit candles and prayed for the baby girl they named angel baby. The baby was burned to death by her own mother. Shes charged with murder. She doused the newborn and set her on fire last friday. Military families may get a new tax credit. Last year they recommended a 10 million casino bailout approved by lawmakers. The panel will get updates on forecasted revenues and the horse racing industry. To the casino crisis in Atlantic City the sale of the revel casino will go to closing on february 7th. There was a denial to put the sale on hold while they appeal. Tenants including a restaurant and nightclub say they will be wiped out if the sale goes through but the judge rules that revel and Atlantic City would suffer if he halted the deal with a florida developer that threatened to walk away if the court ruled against him. The new effect this fire is now having in new jersey this morning. 4 44. This huge fire prompted a local state of emergency in edgewater, new jersey. Schools are closed in this community. The fire destroyed a luxury apartment complex. It broke out at 4 30 yesterday afternoon. Firefighters thought they had it under control and it flared up again. 400 people were evacuated but no reports of serious injuries. This is video from the ground as firefighters had to carry people out of the building. The same apartment complex burned to the ground when it was being built in 2000. The denver post reports 1,200 people returned their tickets for refunds for two shows this past weekend in denver which is about 40 of the tickets sold. Cosby performed despite a protest outside by 100 people. The comedian denied Sexual Assault allegations made by more than two dozen women. Some dating back decades. The family of the comedian killed in the crash that seriously injured tracy morgan settled a wrongful death claim with walmart. James mcnair was riding with morgan and others in a limo on the way back from a show last june when a walmart tractortrailer slammed into the back of the limo on the new jersey turnpike. Morgan suffered a traumatic brain injury and several other critical injuries. Details of the settlement are unknown. Happening today, the ohio man charged in a plot to blow up the u. S. Capitol and kill government officials will be in court. Christopher lee cornell is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon. A school board voted tuesday night to out of Natalie Thomas who has battled with the Teacher Union and administrators since taking the job two years ago. Neighbors in north philadelphia are frustrated that a nuisance motel is back in business. Liberty motel is on germantown avenue and police have been called out hundreds of times in the last few years. The hotel opened up just last month. Neighbors, police and lawmakers clashed with owners of the motel over drugs, prostitution and crime in and around the property. My kids cant even go out and play. I dont allow them to go outside and play because of the activity that goes on in the hotel. Our attempts to reach the motel owner were unsuccessful.
