This is more video of baltimore in the daylight. Crews are still tending to the smoldering fires. More than a dozen buildings burned including a major Senior Center under construction. Its not officially confirmed if angry protesters started the fire but thats what city leaders suspect. Baltimore went into a state of emergency after the demonstrators began looting and throwing inging bricks bottles at police. The mayor has been criticized for the citys response to the rioting. She hit the streets last night and addressed statement she made over the weekend that the city was giving the protesters who want to destroy things the space to do that. Im going to protect peoples rights to protest. The fact that people exploited that does not mean i do not have an obligation to protect peoples right to protest. I never said nor would i ever say that we are giving space to destroy our city. My words should not be twisted. Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter is speaking out on that. He is defending his counter part calling her stand up leader. He said that protesters in abandonment bear the responsibility for the riots and the violence. Back to you. Well see you then. Philadelphia police are closely monitoring the developments in the city of abandonmentbaltimore. No decision has been made yet about sending Philadelphia Police officers down to baltimore to help diffuse the situation there. We obviously would be willing provided certain circumstances but the biggest one is whether we be covered. We cannot subject and put our people in harms way, legally im talking about. Theres no point in being down there if you dont have the proper coverage and youre not a sworn Police Officer in that jurisdiction. Hes been discussing the legal concerns with commissioner Charles Ramsey who is on vacation now. We understand there was an argument of some sort this morning and when it ended, part of the neighborhood and some of the surrounding area was on lockdown. Hes going through a lot of stuff. Its just a misunderstanding. Reporter he was not there hen his brother held his mother and grandmother hostage. He said they are okay in spite of a tense swat stand off. He is a good person. He did graduate from st. Joes university. Hes very intelligent. Hes going through a lot of problems. A guess an argument led from one thing to another. Reporter the swat team arrived to the home after the neighbors heard the women screaming for help. He told the first officer to arrive that he had an ak47 inside and would shoot. That prompted neighborhood evacuations and a nearby school to close. What you saw out here was a cry for help. Reporter the neighbor has known him for 30 years and says the responsibility of caring for his blind grandmother and disabled mother had become too much. Hes a generally nice guy. Just going through a lot of different things. Stressful time. Reporter police took thompson into custody. They tell me they do not believe he ever had any weapons as threatened that he did. They say he will be charged with threatening to harm Police Officers. Get ready for breezy afternoon. Here is a live look at the flags on top of the air mark building. Its going to be warmer. New video shows two suspects who robbed a philadelphia market. Police say two men entered the market on north 12th street yesterday afternoon. Here they are. They attacked the cashier. They got away with cash and cigarettes. If you have any information about the robbery youre asked to call police. We have video from new Jersey State Police who are searching for two men wanted in an armed robbery. The men walked into dollar store on april 6th and pulled out guns. After getting their hands on cash from the register they took off. Police think the suspects may be teenagers. One of the three men Officials Say kidnapped, beat and robbed a woman in philadelphia will appear before a judge today. U. S. Marshals say they brought him back to philadelphia yesterday and will be in federal court this afternoon. Right now two other suspects remain on the run. Man showed up at Mercy Hospital with a gunshot wound. Thats after officers found five cars riddled with bullet holes. Investigators arent sure who fired the shot. They will interview the victim to see what he knows. Investigators are trying to figure out what started a fire inside a bar. The 63rd street lounge was closed at the time. No one was hurt. Fire crews tell us theres extensive damage inside the building. We now know one person died inside this home when it caught fire late last night. Crews worked to put out the flames. Theres no word on the victims identity. Investigators are looking into a cause. The former philadelphia archdiocese official may be heading back to prison after the state Supreme Court reenstated his landmark conviction. He was the first u. S. Church fshl prosecuted over his handling of sex abuse complaints against priests. In 2013 his conviction was overturned with his attorney arguing the states law did not apply to someone in a supervisors role. The high court reinstated it saying he was responsible for protecting him tofrom priests. He has 14 days to try to appeal. 18yearold was killed early saturday on mechanic street while walking to a corner store. He had just transfer to camden high school. He dreamed of playing professional football to buy his parents a home outside of camden. Its just sad. Pretty much changed whole dynamic of him and his family. Now he wont have that opportunity. Yesterday detectives searched roof tops and abandoned homes on green street looking for a weapon or any evidence his killer may have left behind after the shooting. The quake here triggered landslides and toppled buildings. Come down. Four or five deceased buried in the rock fall. Weve been there until just an hour ago. That was david gordon from San Francisco who was hiking in nepal when the earthquake hit. He said some of the people he was traveling with hrwere killed. He was stranded on the hiking trail for two days before being rescued. More than one million are in need of food but the challenge is how to reach them. Better weather conditions today meant helicopters would reach outlying villages with much needed supplies including medical kits dehydrated food and water. Back to our top story now the cleanup is under way in baltimore after yesterdays unrest and the governor and mayor promised the kind of violence the city saw tonight will not be tolerated. Jay gray has been monitoring the situation there. He joins us live from baltimore. Whats it like out there today . Reporter i think still a very uneasy tension at this point across much of the city. Lockdown in certain areas including here at city hall by not only the National Guard but state and local police as well. Sheriffs deputies you continue to hear sirens ring out across the city after a very violent night last night, looting, fires across much of the city in the wake of the funeral for freddie gray. His family pleading for nonviolent protests here but it all turned very ugly yesterday afternoon. Driven officers say, by a lot of High School Age teenagers that were released from school about the time all of this started to take place. It went on well into the night. Show of force, police in riot gear and National Guard called in a state of emergency was delayed by the governor here in maryland. Its still in affect right now. This has become a home base for a lot of those teens that are out in the streets and what officials locally and statewide are promising is they will have the manpower tonight to prevent all of this from happening again. There will be no fires, no violence because they plan to have a lot of teams out on the streets. Do you feel a presence of the National Guard and police out in force . It looks much calmer. Here at city hall we have National Guard that have corned off the building only letting those with business inside. Then you see it on the streets as well. This is happened at 18th and page streets. You see the bricks there an mortar. So far there are no reports of any injuries. Supreme court is hearing arguments over whether samesex marriage should be the law of the land. People lined up outside the courthouse hoping to hear the historic arguments. At issue is whether states must issue marriage licenses to samesex couples and recognize marriages from other states. Recent changes have made samesex marriage legal in all but 14 states. Jurors are hearing testimony right now in the trial of the colorado man accused of a mass murder at a movie theaters. James holmes is accused of killing 12 people and injuring 70 in a shooting rampage nearly three years ago in a theater. Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. A computer expert testifying for the defense in the trial of Boston Marathon bomber saying his brothers wife did research the try to figure out what the rewards would be for the wife of someone who dies fighting in a holy way. The computer searchers were made more than a year before the bombings. He faces life in prison for the death penalty. His attorneys are fighting to keep him alive. Japans Prime Minister shinzo abe arrived at the white house earlier this morning. The Prime Minister is in d. C. For talks on the u. S. Japan alliance. A free trade deal known as the transpacific partnership. Tonight president obama will host state dinner in the Prime Ministers honor. A Russian Rocket blasted off this morning carrying supplies for the International Space station. Engines at maximum start and liftoff. Docking aboard the station was postponed after problems with two navigation antennas and now the rocket is expected to dock on thursday instead. The spacecraft is carrying more than two tons of supplies including water, oxygen and parts to fix a broken toilet at the space station. We have had a lot of windy weather lately. A lot of that has been bringing in cold air. This time its bringing in warmer air. That warm up continues during the day today. We have more sunshine expected than we did yesterday. That combination of sunshine and warmer winds will push the trts up considerably. We still have a possible noreaster that were taking a look at. Flags still blowing pretty hard. The wind gusting over 20 miles an hour. Up to 29 miles an hour now in Philadelphia International with sustained wind at 18. The temperature 60. Thats the highest it got up to yesterday. Were right around the 60degree mark give or take a degree or two all across the area at the moment. When you have the strong winds you dont see much of a temperature contrast across the area. Were gusting 20 to 30 miles an hour. Dover up to 32 miles an hour for the latest wind gust. Nobody reporting cloudy or rain. There are some clouds coming down from the north. Those are fair weather clouds. The moisture is very, very limited. You can see these temperatures not going very far compared to what theyre going to go tomorrow. Its not directly related to the noreaster. This storm is going to develop. How close to us is the rain going to come. Other models keep it a little farther to the east. Well keep watching. They have less fatigue nausea and pain. Women who took part in more intense exercise tolerated chemo the best and less likely to require their dose of medication to be adjusted. A study of nearly 10,000 children with autism finds girls are diagnosed with the condition later than boys. The average age was 4 years old for girls compared to three years, eight months old for boys. This may be because boys have more symptoms while young girls tend to struggle with social skills. The stores were looted and fires were se andt and people attacked just hours after the funeral of freddie gray. Overnight people were stationed across parts of the city hit by riots and fire. Fire crews were mopping up whats left of burned out areas as crews were called in to clear the streets of rocks, bricks and glass left behind. A three alarm fire destroyed a building under construction in east baltimore. The Comment Center was designed to support young people and family. Officials think the fire is connected to the violence that broke out last night. As you saw in jay grays live report just five or ten minutes ago things are much calmer today. It is calmer there and the mission moving forward for the Police Commissioner governor and the mayor is to keep the peace. They do not want to relive the chaos and the mayhem that erupted last night. Right now crews are keeping an eye on hot spots in the neighborhoods where fires destroyed 16 buildings across the city. In addition to the buildings, 144 cars burned. That included police cruisers. The belief in baltimore is that angry protesters started the fire. Baltimore went into a state of emergency after the demonstrators started looting and became violent. Half a dozen officers are in the hospital this morning. Residents calling for calm say the riots are in response to the Police Involved death that started in ferguson. This is not only about this latest incident involving freddie gray. They say frustration has been building for months. Freddie gray situation is just the straw that broke the camels back. Everything is angry. Freddie grays family has spoken saying they are appalled and urging protesters to keep the peace and stop the violence. Were going to be seeing a lot more sunshine and warmer temperatures as well. Here is a look at center city where were seeing some breezy conditions. Its that breeze and that wind thats helping bring in that warm air in. Right. Normally a wind out of the northwest will bring in colder air. Thats what it did last week. This time its starting to bring in warmer air. That plus increased sunshine will allow temperatures to go up. This is in the pocono mountain. We have some fairly low level clouds but they are flat. Theres no rain threat today. You can see with the winds coming down from the north they are just lining those clouds up into streets be way we call them. We call them streets. 60 degrees for the temperature now. Thats the highest it got yet. Its obviously going to be warmer. The question is how much warmer. Its going to get to the upper 60s. May not get to 70 in most places but tomorrow will. Well talk more about the warm up and also the threat of the noreaster affecting us later in the week with the seven day in a few minutes. Nbc 10 think told us they are thankful their family is okay. He described to us the panic their loved ones felt as the earthquake hit. They were like we were just eating lunch stepped out and everything started shaking. Everyone started crying and running towards the field. Lucky there was an open field near our house. During the race the storm moved in and threw them from the boat. They were stuck in the water for about two and a half hours just waiting to be rescued. As the victim was being rescued she fell from the helicopters hoist. She died at the scene. The faa and the ntsb are investigating. Apple continues to make investors very happy. Ive learned that just from bringing our wednesdays child children down there. The ones who are interested in the arts and performance. We bring it down there and you have been so terrific. Absolutely. We have a lot of kids that are involved in our theater school. We also have a wonderful adoptive School Program thats three philadelphia Public Schools this year. Every day of the year we have a touring troupe of actor who is are out in schools doing shows about nutrition, bullying, selfesteem and that work is really meaningful to us. Had a lot of clouds that helped keep the temperature down. We got warm upstarting today. Well get well up into the 60s. More sunshine today and tomorrow than what we saw but possible noreaster affecting at least a part of the area later on during the week. See a beautiful looking sky. Fair weather cumulus clouds. Thats a classic picture of those things. The winds still blowing at a pretty good clip here. Gusts of 39 miles an hour. 60 degrees and it keeps rising. The pollen does not keep rising. The forecast takes it gradually down. The forecast is for it to go way down by friday especially if the rain comes in from the noreaster. Temperatures close to 60 degrees within a couple of degrees exsentex except for the poconos. The clouds are coming back from the same direction. You get caught right under those and it seems cloudy. You go two miles away and its sunnier. As we go into thursday this is the area that were watching down into the south. This is going to become a legitimate noreaster. They come straight up the coast to bring a lot of rain and wind. In the winter time they bring a lot of snow. Theres aing blocking pattern up in the atmosphere thats fighting this off and trying to push it further off to sea. You can see the wind is coming in off the ocean by thursday and friday. It will keep the temperatures down. This particular model brings at least some rain into the area but thats mostly on friday. Then it slowly moves out. Other models keep everything far enough south so that we dont get any rain especially from philadelphia north ward. Well update that this afternoon with new data. A lot of sunshine today kind of windy and warmer. 70 degrees and a couple of spots. Should get into the 70s and much of the area. The chance of rain on thursday especially thursday night and into friday the wind picking up and the temperature going down.
