Its not as bitter as it was earlier but still feels like below zero. Cant go outside without covering every square inch of your body. Otherwise a frostbite danger. 17 below in mount pocono for the windchill. It was minus 30s this morning. Look at the size of this thing. Theres a lot of snow there in the white and the blue. This is the ice in the pink and rain in the green. Its getting closer but it is going to move into this area. Now, the hardest hit part of the area is going to be delaware and south jersey. These counties in white. They have winter storm warnings for tonight. Theres going to be a considerable snow accumulation. Now, the timing on this. Its generally 7 00 to 10 00 p. M. The snow starts. 10 00 p. M. To 6 00 a. M. Thats when wets the heaviest snow so most of the accumulating snow is occurring while youre sleeping. Get up tomorrow morning and its probably still going to be snowing if you get up early enough. But it ends west to east during the morning hours. Now, this is a storm that is going to be moving in pretty quickly. Its going to be moving out quickly. By tomorrow noontime its pretty much over. Philadelphia firefighters were busy battling two blazes. West philadelphia flames broke out at 4 30 52nd and locust streets. The aftermath of the fire shows the building covered in ice. Its the aftermath. This firefighter chipping off the ice from ladder 169 here which has been one of the primary firefighting tools for this three, fourstory building fire that broke out around 4 30 this morning. It houses a doctors office. Theres some retail in there. Firefighters said of course the more water they put on this in these conditions the greater the layers of ice get. Of course they have to be concerned about the extra weight of the ice on just about everything from the hoses to the buildings to their own equipment. Firefighters told us just a short while ago that fighting fires in the 30 degree range is one thing. Fighting fires in the 20 degree range is one thing. Down near 0 is a completely different animal. Well the water freezes that much faster. Literally we have to keep water flowing through the hose lines. With the main ladders behind me they will lock up. We have to move them extend them retract them move them left to right every 20 minutes or else they will become inoperable. But as jimmy was saying even that is no guarantee is going to keep your equipment from freezing solid. They have to get most of the ice off of this try to get these ladders down once they know the fire has been contained. Difficult to stretch the hose line. The water is freezing. We have all kinds of problems and issues we have to deal with under these extreme conditions. Firefighters responded, fought both fire and icy conditions and limited the spread of the flames to a neighboring property. Gets into the wall in the ceiling and travels undetected. The pastor tells nbc 10 the area is usually packed with people. He believes maybe they were protected by something more powerful than the wind. Normally we have many people on the steps of the church wall of the church waiting for buses to come and go. But the lord didnt let one person there. There is some damage to the roof which is being inspected. The pastor tells us hell have to assess whether the church can pay for the repairs. This morning some residents in east falls are back in their apartments after the strong wind snapped a tree. The winds landed on the roof of the complex. This happened early yesterday morning at the falls apartment complex. One of the branches broke through into the apartment on the top floor. Nobody here was injured. A family in Delaware County is dealing with a similar problem. A tree smashed onto their home in newtown square. Firefighters had to rescue a woman pinned underneath a coffee table. She was holding their twoyearold daughter. Her husband said they are lucky they werent hurt or worse. Had i not been on the bed, i would have been on the couch where the tree fell and been crushed. In addition to the house, the tree damaged the familys minivan. The cold appears to be the blame for a womans death. In lakewood a neighbor found 66yearold olivia bonito face down in the snow. The two had drinks earlier at the neighbors house. She was going to walk the short distance to her town home inside the development but never made it. Police are now waiting on an autopsy report. A Movie Theater in Delaware County will be closed today thanks to a water main break. The extreme cold very well may have caused the break at the amc theater. Route 202 in chadds ford. Weve had some record low temperatures across the area already. We have a snowstorm coming in tonight for at least much of the area and more record cold coming after that storm. Were all the way up to 10 degrees in philadelphia. Its only 7 in chester springs. 8 in kennett square. 7 in reading 6 in lancaster. Fresh snow over the weekend certainly has happened. Dont really believe its all up to 20 in vineland only 10 at cape may harbor. Windchills the way it feels to your exposed skin 5 to 10 below zero on average across the area. Still get a little closer. The leading edge of it not reaching the ground because lower levels of the atmosphere are very, very dry. This is the type of snow that is going to be the fluffy type. And it will below around a lot and brush it off the car, even use a broom on the sidewalks tomorrow morning probably. The ice is way, way, way down to near the georgiaalabama border. Darker blues, areas of heavier snow. Not moving to the northeast, moving pretty much to the east and thats going to mean that most of the heaviest snow will fall in southern parts of the area. By 8 00 here is the future cast. Generally it advances a little bit quicker than that. So by 8 00 we could be seeing some snow in philly. And later on during the night, looks like its going to be snowing much of the night and into the morning rush tomorrow. Especially in delaware and south jersey. Thats where its going to be heaviest. Lehigh valley poconos, youve had storms bigger than this already this winter. This is not going to be a huge storm for you. Then by 11 00 a. M. Its winding down starting to clear out. By tomorrow afternoon, its all over. Its not a long lasting storm, no blocking in the atmosphere to slow it down. Snow starts 7 00 to 10 00 p. M. Tonight. From 10 00 p. M. To 6 00 a. M. When a lot of people heaviest snow, 6 00 a. M. To 10 00 a. M. Ends west to east then clear 10 00 a. M. To 2 00 p. M. Lowest snow totals in the poconos, its possible even less than that if the storm continues to track south. Six to nine lehigh valley. Four to six Chester County montgomery, philly bucks county mercer county. Right along delaware river, the further south you go the more snow likely to fall. Delaware kent cumberland new jersey getting greatest amounts of snow. Six to nine inches of snow by midday tomorrow. Seven day forecast we have the morning snow tomorrow. Then we have another burst of snow on wednesday. Thats more like what we saw saturday with that arctic front. Could be a little bit more accumulation. Thats not a real big storm. Then record cold comes in for thursday and friday. Possibly saturday morning as well in parts of the area. Multiple days of record cold.
