Philadelphia police Just Announced they made an arrest in a rape at a center city septa station this week. Nbc 10s Christine Maddela is live at the special victims unit. What can you tell us . Reporter after talking with septas police chief as well as svu captain john darby and they say they did arrest a man from mondays assault. Look at his picture. They say his name is Reginald Green. And last night they charged him with attempted rape robbery and aggravated assault among several other charges. Now, on monday around 1 00 in the afternoon, a woman was walking in center city and she didnt know Reginald Green. But they met on the street. They started talking near 10th and filbert streets. And she talked to him for about half an hour. Surveillance video helped in this investigation. The man led her to the Jefferson Station track area where green then asked for sex and started physically assaulting her and tried to rape the woman. Now, captain john darby says after a struggle the man ran away, but the captain said green did seriously injure the woman. Basically pummeled her. He beat her with his fists, kicked her repeatedly she suffered injuries to her face. Now, green according to svu detectives has 11 prior arrests including one indecent assault. Theyre going to check through their database to see if green may be responsible for any more assaults. If you have any information on green, youre urged to call the special victims unit. Com investigators said the workers accidentally sparked the fire last month in edgewater when they tried to fix a leaky pipe in a first floor apartment. Near atlanta, police are looking into a report of a fight at Bobbi Kristina browns home the week before she was found facedown in a bathtub. After School Allstars brings Quality School based after School Programs to inner city schools. The mission is to keep kids safe and help them succeed in school and life. Elise daly is director and shes here with board member rob recede. Lets talk about how this program got started. Well the main reason that we were able to be here today is because of new york life. They saw the track record that after School Allstars had over the past 20 years across the country. And committed to funding the organizations expansion into two new cities this year philadelphia being one and newark being the other. And interestingly was started by arnold schwarzenegger. Right. In the early 90s. Tell me how his involvement obviously he started this thing, how did that happen . Well when he served as fitness czar to the first president bush, he recognized that there was a need for fitness in after School Programming for middle school students. Over the years, the organization transformed to be a comprehensive after School Programming that can meet with students needs in a range of areas, not just fitness, but academics, enrichment and were excited to bring all those things to philadelphia because there is a clearly a need for all of those services to be provided to the students here. Tell us how you got involved with the program. Of course. I run the local new York Life Office and i get a call in the fall from a new York Life Foundation home office telling me of a large financial grant, little more than 4 million was donated to this cause, largest expansion grant. They asked for boots on the ground, local support. We raised our hands quickly, enthusiastically, and it is what we do every day. We help clients, we help folks that work with us and help the communities we serve. Youre like the marines of this outfit. We kind of are, yes. This is interesting because we all understand there is a lot of National Programs for High School Kids and, of course were aware of programs for younger kids. But this is the First Program that really is targeted specifically for middle school kids. Right. After School Allstars is the leading organization that focuses primarily on middle school students. And specifically at risk middle school students. So we realize there is a clear need to meet the demand for services in middle school because it is a critical time in students lives. If you reach students in sixth, seventh, eighth grade, you can have an impact in making sure they graduate from high school go on to college. And we see that our students have a much higher Graduation Rate than students nationally. The statistics are astounding and were part of excited to be part of bringing that here. Today well see plenty of sunshine, as we head into thursday, were tracking the chance of snow showers. It is going to be light, spotty snow that we are expecting heading into thursday. Then we track two days of arctic blast. So our temperatures are really going to drop down substantially. Ill show you that in the sevenday forecast. As we push into saturday were tracking another chance of snow. For philadelphia right now, 34 degrees, plenty of sunshine but it feels like 27 degrees. It is cold when you step outside. Wind speeds out of the northeast at 9 Miles Per Hour and the rest of the region, were at 27 in reading, lancaster 30 degrees, 22 in the poconos, 30 degrees in trenton, 34 in Atlantic City. Temperatures in dover starting off at 34 degrees as well. Were in the mid30s for stone harbor. Temperatures today will reach the high 30s. Feels like temperature, however, throughout the area 14 degrees in the poconos, feels like 21 in mount holly, i should say. Feels like 25 degrees in Atlantic City. Mid20s in dover. Satellite radar shot shows that were seeing quiet conditions. Again, plenty of sunshine but the other big story is how cold it is going to get, especially as we head into thursday night and into friday. Friday morning, when youre heading to work it will be freezing. So make sure you plan to bundle up friday morning because we have this arctic air that is going to head closer to our region going to be over philadelphia and washington. And then it is going to retreat up just a little bit, but by sunday, we are going to see another blast of arctic air and this one will be far reaching and temperatures will be even colder as we head into sunday. This arctic air will reach all the way down into the carolinas. But it will retreat as we head into monday and tuesday. It is going to take a while for us to warm back closer to where we should be this time of year. As we look at the snow showers for tomorrow we could see spotty snow showers closer to 4 00 p. M. And this is near trenton, also allentown into the poconos and lingering into the evening. Closer to 8 00 p. M. Again near toms river. See how spotty the snow showers really are. So there is a few things happening, arctic air and chance for snow showers. Lets talk first about how cold it is going to feel as we head into thursday night. By 11 00 p. M. It is going to feel like 1 degree in philadelphia. Feeling like 5 below in pottstown. Feels like 5 below in allentown. That will set us up for a very very cold commute. Dangerously cold commute as we head into friday morning at 7 00 a. M. It is going to feel like it is 7 degrees below zero for philadelphia. 11 below in pottstown. 12 below in allentown. As far as today is concerned, it is a big improvement from what were in store for. Temperatures range between 37 and 40 degrees. Sunny and breezy. Changes start as we head into thursday, well see spotty snow showers. And then wind speeds pick up as we head into the afternoon. Though our temperatures will reach 38 it is going to feel colder than that. Overnight lows will feel very cold. Friday morning, extremely cold for us bitter blast will bring our daytime highs only to 23 degrees. And then our overnight lows will drop down into the teens, even lower than that. Saturday for valentines day, late snow is expected. And then sunday another arctic blast means our daytime highs only at 18 degrees or overnight lows stay in the single digits. Stay with us. Now an update on our top story today, police have made an arrest in the sex assault at septas Jefferson Station formerly known as market east. Police took Reginald Green into custody last night. Hes facing a long list of charges including attempted rape robbery and aggravated assault. The attack happened on monday around 1 00 in the afternoon. Police say green talked to the victim for about 30 minutes, then led her to the track where he physically assaulted her and tried to rape her.
