A billowing cloud of dust spread over this part of germantown as 16story queen lane tower came down. Philadelphia Housing Authority tells us the Fire Department are on the scene now hosing down the debris. Our camera was rolling as people donned masks and raised their cellphones to capture the moment. I guess it had to happen. It had to happen. The building was deteriorating. It had to happen. Sad occasion. Ive never heard a bomb go off and ive never seen a building implode. So it was pretty fun. Reporter now, evacuated families who live within one block of the queen building will be allowed back into their homes today to check things out between 10 00 and 11 00 this morning. They tell us that everyone should be back inside about 5 00. In the next half hour, were going to hear from residents who lived in those towers. One of them is in critical condition. Two people are in custody. Also new this morning, Philadelphia Police are looking for the driver involved in a deadly hit and run. Nbc 10 was in north philadelphia where police found the car abandoned on bambry street. Nbc 10 was also at 25th and allegheny where a victim, man in his 60s, was struck and killed. A speeding rental car hit the victim who was crossing the street around midnight. The impact threw the mans body intoy an oncoming vehicle if driver of the car did stop to help but police are still looking for the person responsible chlts its being described as a possible hate crime. This morning Philadelphia Police are trying to determine if Sexual Orientation is the reason why two men were badly beaten in center city last night. This happened around 10 45 last night. According to police, two gay men were assaulted by a group of men and women. A friend of a witness snapped this photo of police arriving to help one of the victims who was knocked unconscious. That victim set for surgery at the hospital suffered facial fractures and other wounds. Its unclear what the extent is of the other victims injuries. Guilty on all charges. Now kristina regusters will wait until december to learn her punishment after being convicted in a high profile kidnapping and sex assault case in philadelphia. And new this morning her mother says she believes her daughter was set up. In a verdict handed down yesterday regusters was found guilty of kidnapping a 5 yer 5yearold girl from her school and assaulting her. Life in prison when she is sentenced at the end of the year. Her mother doesnt want to be identified because she tells us shes received death threats. That that statement the mother of kristina regusters says i am deeply hurt and saddened about the trauma the girl has suffered. No child should ever have to go through that. I still believe my daughter was set up. And whoever set christina up did a very good job. My daughter did not wake up on the morning of january 14th 20, 13, and just decided to abduct, rape, and injure the girl. She was never in my sisters house nor was the white jacket hers. The d. A. Among them, city officials, community activist, and former residents arrived before sun rise to watch the implosion. Makes me sad because i lived there when they first opened up years ago.
