Meteorologist Michelle Grossman is keeping an eye on the radar and the temperature. Talk to us about it michelle. Were seeing some spots below freezing and were starting to see that freezing rain in spots. Heres a live look outside. Were looking at grey skies and freezing rain across the area. To the south and east, were seeing rain falling. Thats why were seeing temperatures above freezing. And this is what were watching the past couple of hours and what we are worried about. That precipitation would areviewrive before the temperatures went up and thats what were seeing. Doesnt take much to make slick roadways. Be careful as you head out there this morning. Stay indoors, if you can. You can see some pink along i95, north and west of philadelphia, south and east of philadelphia as well thats where were seeing the potential for some slick roadways. Right now, 32 in philadelphia. We actually went up a degree in philadelphia. And thats the hope that once this rain moves in and the freezing rain moves in the storm system gets closer well start to see those temperatures rising. 46 in wildwood 48 in atlantic city. Well above freezing. South and east of philadelphia to the north and west we are well below freezing 25 right now in lancaster. Taking a look at futurecast as we go throughout time were going to see this rain filling in. Well see the potential still for that freezing rain that freezing drizdrizzle, north and west of philadelphia. As we go throughout the time in philadelphia,well see that rain falling, 35. 39 by 10 00. And by noon 41. Its a disturbing crime that has shaken a Burlington County community. A new mother is accused of setting her baby girl on fire in the middle of the road. The mom is in jail this morning on 500,000 bail. Nbc 10s Monique Braxton is live in pemberton township where a memorial is growing at the scene of the crime. Monique . Reporter thats right, rosemary. The road you talked about winds through a Rural Community here in pemberton township. This is where the memorial is growing beside the road still marked by Police Crime Scene ;, e tape. You can see some teddy bears of stuffed fish also some pink and blue and white ribbons and bows. Now, authorities tell us a 22yearold, hyphernkemberly dorvilier, of pemberton township, set her baby girl on fire, shortly after she was born. This week, those circumstances surrounding the birth will be examined. Nbc 10 went to the dorvilier home but no one answered our knock at the door. Dorvilier is accused of dousing the baby with an accelerant in a remote area just a few miles from her own home. Sources say she may have used dw40. A neighbor says no one suspected she was pregnant. I dont care what the problem might be with your children there are so many things and so many places you can take them. You dont have to do anything like that. Reporter now, the little girl with her umbilical cord still attached was airlifted to st. Christophers hospital and died two hours later. Dorvilier is being held on 500,000 bail. The medical examiner will be performing an autopsy this week to determine exactly how the little girl who was set afire here died. In the next half hour youre going to hear from someone with the fire company to tell us about the alternatives Young Mothers have when they dont wish to keep their children. Live for now in pemberton township, Monique Braxton, nbc 10 news. New from overnight in philadelphia two people are in the hospital and a gunman is on the loose. A man and a woman were shot around midnight in the citys frankfort neighborhood. The man was shot in the face. Hes in Critical Condition and the woman was shot in the chest and arms. Shes stable this morning. Again, police are looking for the shooter. Also new from overnight, a man is in critical but stable condition after a driver hit him while he was walking in the cobbs creek neighborhood of philadelphia. This happened on the 5,400 block of baltimore avenue just before 2 00 this morning. Police tell us the driver did stop at the scene, theres no word on exactly what led up to the crash, and theres no word if any charges will be filed in this case. After 11 hours, the water is finally running again at a busy Center City Hotel. Around 6 00 last night, a water main ruptured underground, leaking water into the subbasement at the loews hotel at 12th and market street. No power or water for the guests. Hotel management tell us they were close to full occupancy, but power was eventually restored right around 9 00 last night and the water began to flow again about 5 00 this morning. Philadelphia university is trying to reach a fundraising goal by tomorrow the oneyear anniversary of the murder of an architect. A robber shot and killed 26yearold amber long for her purse in northern liberties. The gunman and another robber are still on the loose. Longs mother established a Memorial Scholarship at Philadelphia University where long studied, to help other architecture students. 19,000 had been raised so far. The goal is 25,000 by tomorrow. We have some new information this morning on the condition of the woman injured when a temple student fell on top of her from eight stories up. Erica goodwins family says that shes been upgraded from critical to serious condition. Goodwin was hurt when 18yearold rebecca kim fell from the center city window on thursday night. Kim died after landing on goodwin, who was on the sidewalk below. Rebecca kim was a freshman at temple university. She went to high school in montgomery county. Police say she fell to her death after she climbed out of the window to take pictures. A nighttime workout was cut short for some folks in Camden County yesterday. The gym had to be evacuated after witnesses say that somebody pulled out a gun. A viewer sent us this video from just outside of the l. A. Fitness in summerdale. People at the gym tell us that an employee was working out there when some kind of altercation happened and he took out his gun. Officials evacuated the building and then police took the man into custody. In Lehigh County we are learning more about a deadly crash between a train and an suv. Authorities tell us that 64yearold carol midei, the driver, became disoriented before turning on to the tracks in macungie friday night and getting stuck. An oncoming Freight Train couldnt stop in time and slammed into her car. Officials have ruled mideis death as accidental. This week president obama will deliver his sixth state of the Union Address before a republicanled congress. The president is expected to announce a tax proposal and call on lawmakers to make Community College free for many students increase pay leave for workers, and enact cybersecurity rules. At least nine people were killed when a motorcycle bomb exploded in baghdad last night. More than 25 people were injured. The blast took place near a line of cell phone shops. Police arrested the suspect on new years day as he tried to cross into turkey. Authorities believe that he is linked to the terrorists who killed 12 people at the paris offices of the magazine last week. Bulgaria courts will decide whether he will be extradited to france. In the philippines this morning, officials now say a record 6 Million People turned out for pope francis mass and to line his motorcade. Worshippers braved the wind and the rain during the pontiffs final service during his trip to the country. The pope urged people to protect their children from sin and give them hope. Pope francis dedicated his trip to the philippines to the poor. About a quarter of the people who live there live in poverty. Again, millions of people who were there attending the service. Today, some lawmakers continue their visit to cuba as officials from both countries move forward with a new relationship. Last month the Obama Administration loosened trade and travel restrictions that have been in place for more than half a century. Now lets head to florida, where police have captured a teen couple. Theyve been making headlines in connection to an alleged crime scene across the south. Officers found 18yearold dalton hayes and his 13yearold girlfriend this morning asleep in a stolen truck in panama city, beach. Hayes is charged with being a fugitive from justice and is awaiting extradition to kentucky. The 13yearold is now with the Florida Department of children and families. Hayes and his girlfriend were wanted in the south for allegedly stealing trucks and cashing stolen checks. Although they have been compared to bonnie and clyde, they are not accused of committing any violent crimes. All right. Lets stay in florida. Police there say a gunman who shot two people at a Shopping Mall before killing himself was out to target his wife. The shooting happened yesterday in melbourne. Thats on Floridas Atlantic coast. The gunman opened fire inside of the food court where his wife worked. She was wounded, but will be okay. A man nearby though was shot and killed. Witnesses and Police Describe this scene as shoppers ducked for cover or ran for their lives. I have no words for this. This is ridiculous. These are the kind of incidents that we plan for, we train for, but hope we never have to deal with. Police say the shootings stem from a domestic situation. The mall was closed down yesterday, but its expected to reopen today. In oregon Authorities Say a highway pileup involving more than two dozen vehicles all started with some black ice. According to police a couple of tractortrailers came upon the ice early yesterday morning and slammed into each other. That set off a Chain Reaction crash. Crews spent most of the day clearing away the cars and big rigs. 12 people were hurt four of them had serious injuries. In california wildlife officials are trying to identify a very mysterious slime thats been killing sea birds in the San Francisco bay area. Officials discovered the substance friday when some birds were seen looking distressed in the bay. The officials took in about 70 birds to a rescue center and recovered 20 dead ones. The birds were covered in a pale grey sticky slime. The slime damages the birds feather and the ability to stay waterproof which can lead to hypothermia. Early tests show that the slime is not oil and the coast guard has been unable to find out exactly writ originated. Heres a look at radar showing us we do have that rain falling, even some falling to the north and west. So some freezing stuff, some black ice, some slippery roadways. Just be careful. I cant say that enough as you head out this morning. Temperatures to the north and west we are below freezing well below freezing in parts to the north and west, 25 in reading, 29 in allentown, 31 right now in philadelphia. The so hovering right around that freezing mark. Better news though if you look well south and east in parts of extreme southern new jersey, also delaware were seeing temperatures around 45 in millville. 48 in atlantic city. 39 in dover. This is a look at radar. Rain to the south and east also delaware, but then you see that pink falling. Thats where were seeing the slick roadways the freezing rain the drizzle. Its a glaze, a little tiny bit, but it does not take much especially on those sidewalks and those secondary roadways. So as we zoom in a little closer here this is where you want to be careful into bucks county montgomery county, right along the i95 Corridor North and also south. And into parts of mercer county. So future weather, as we go throughout time well continue to watch the threat for freezing rain as we move over the next couple of hours, a freezing rain advisory in effect until 10 00. And then that warm air takes the over and everyone is seeing rain and seeing heavy rain falling in parts of new jerseys and also delaware by 2 00. So by this afternoon, its really not out of here until dinner time. 4 00, still seeing it falling along the coast. And then by 6 00 7 00 were seeing it wind up and move off to the north and east. Were going to clear it out overnight, bring back some sunshine and wind on monday. So futurecast, were looking at most rainfall falling to the south and east of philadelphia almost up to an inch and a half in atlantic city. A little over an inch and a quarter in toms river and that huge cutoff as you go to the north and west. Today, rain some heavy. Freezing rain to the north and west and just south of i95 corridor as well. Monday, sunshine returns, it will be blustery 38 degrees. A quick look at your sevenday, breezy on tuesday, 39. And michelle in addition to the rain you are tracking some freezing conditions out there that are making it dangerous for people who are out on the roads. Tell us about it. You got that exactly right. Thats what we were afraid of. Afraid that the precipitation would get here before those temperatures actually rose. Thats what were seeing right now. Seeing along i95 north of i95, also south of i95. So your roadways you have a glaze of ice on some spots, causing some very very slick conditions. Be careful as you head out. You want to test your driveway test the roadways the sidewalks if you head out this morning. Heres a live look outside. We are looking at cape may. Were looking at some clouds but also looking at some rain falling in parts of cape may county. Kind of had a little break there, were looking at our cape may camera. It really depends on where you are right now, depending on what youre seeing. A sunday soaker for everybody today. Were seeing some green on radar, seeing some pink as well. Thats where were seeing the freezing stuff, along the i95 corridor, north and also south. Zooming in a little closer here some very slick spots, black ice, just a glaze of ice across the area. A baby is dead after being set on fire and the mother is now facing murder charges. Its a story that we first told you about as breaking news yesterday morning. Reporter rosemary under the light of the day, you get a better idea of just how remote this area is where she brought her baby and allegedly lit the baby on fire. A memorial is now growing. You see a candle there. You also see stuffed teddy bears, a fish pink and blue ribbons along with a white ribbon and its also the spot where police did mark the crime scene. Authorities say 22yearold hyphernkemberly dorvilier, of pemberton township set her baby girl on fire shortly after she was born. But they still want to know the circumstances surrounding the little girls birth. Nbc 10 went to the dorvilier home, but no one answered our knock at their door. Dorvilier is accused of dousing the baby with an accelerant a few miles from her home. Sources say she have may have used wd40. We went to the Fire Department to learn the options that dorvilier had under new jerseys safe haven law. Its a crazy world, you know . I wish she would have took better action dropped it off at a hospital fire company you know called the state, Police Department, anything that could have taken care of the baby. Reporter the baby was taken to st. Christophers hospital and died there two hours later. Dorvilier is being held on 500,000 bail. Now, this week the medical examiner will perform an autopsy to try and determine exactly how she died, even though they know she was set ablaze allegedly by her own mother. New this morning, from the Cherry Hill Police Department Officers are looking for this patient, whom they say is schizophrenic. He was last spotted along third avenue with no shoes and still wearing his hospital gown. Investigators say he does not speak english and should not be approached. Police are asking that you call them if you see him. The water is running again at a busy Center City Hotel after a water main break cut it off for nearly 12 hours. Around 6 00 last night, a water main ruptured underground, leaking water into the subbasement at the loews hotel at 12th and market street. The electrical lines were down so no power or water for the guests and according to hotel management, they were close to full occupancy. The power finally came back on last night around 9 00 and the water started flowing again around 5 00 this morning. A mother who stayed in a Philadelphia Church for two months to avoid deportation has finally left her sanctuary. It comes three days after Angela Navarro won the battle to stay in the u. S. For at least two more years. Navarro, her husband and two children moved into the West Kensington ministry in november. Her family is documented but angela is not. She fled to the u. S. From wartorn honduras when she was a teenager. She tells us that she is happy now to be free. It was super important, because i didnt know there was a way out of my situation and im so glad that i made the decision to come and seek sanctuary and that we won. Those were navarros words, as told to us through an interpreter. Navarros Attorney Says that they will move to reopen her case. As for angela she says she is going to enjoy her freedom. Now to some breaking news were following out of montgomery county. A major pileup on the schuylkill expressway is happening right now. This has been going on for the last 30 minutes, 45 minutes or so. This is in the upper marion area. Were told as many as 25 vehicles are involved. Its in the westbound lanes near the gulf mills exit. We are trying to get some of our Traffic Cameras up and running, so we can show you this picture, but really the big news here is that if you are traveling this morning and youre taking 76 west, find an alternate route, because, eventually as you head out to the gulf mills exit there is going to be a major backup. Again, 25 cars involved in this crash. Well keep you updated on this breaking news story. People in our area and around the country are making plans for dr. Martin luther king jr. Day. Tomorrow, Vice President joe biden will be in wilmington for the annual organization of minority women mlk breakfast. The Vice President will speak at the event, which commemorates kings legacy. It takes place at the chase center. Also tomorrow more than 100,000 volunteers will come together for the 20th annual greater philadelphia mlk day of service. Its the largest king day event in the nation. It includes 1,800 projects workshops, health and job fairs, and much more. This weekend, students got the chance to see a special free screening of the film selma. The movie is about dr. King and the historic march from selma to montgomery alabama, during the civil rights movement. The city of philadelphia and local businesses have raised more than 40,000 to allow the students to watch the film as part as the students for selma initiative. All right. Thats what were looking at freezing rain in spots. Well show you that on radar. We have a freezing rain advisory until 10 00. Otherwise, looking at a sunday soaker rain all afternoon. Could be heavy at times, especially in jersey and delaware. Then windy and blustery conditions return on monday along with sunshine. But first, we have to get through this morning and also this afternoon. Taking a live look outside, we are looking at the clouds and rain in philadelphia. Right at the freezing mark in philadelphia. That temperature is actually starting to go up. Last hour we were at 31. And hopefully the trend is well start to see these temperatures rise. 32 right now, winds out of the eastnortheast at 5 miles an hour, 12 degrees warmer than this time yesterday. Taking a look at radar, you can certainly see some pink showing up on the map. That was our concern a few hours ago, that the precipitation will get here before the temperatures actually did rise and thats whats happening right now. To the south and east we are looking at some rain and were looking at heavy rain further to the south. So temperatures right now, looking to the north and west, this is where were seeing our problems. Right at the freezing mark in philadelphia. We have a freezing rain advisory the National Weather service has posted this until 10 00. If you live in these areas, take it slow on the roadways or staying indoors if you can over the next hour hour and a half. Its not going to be a long event in terms of the freezing stuff, but still were seeing a glaze out there and its causing some problems. Here it is on radar, where youre seeing the pink is where were seeing the problem, zooming in along the i95 corridor. And you want to take it slow. Chuck, you spoke with the new editor in chief of Charlie Hebdo, the french satirical magazine. What did he have to say about the popes recent comments on free speech and the magazines latest controversial cover . Well hes unapologetic about the cover, unapologetic about the controversy, but he makes a nuanced argument in response to the pope. He claims the magazine never is going after people of faith. That it doesnt go after, in his words, believers. When they attack religion, theyre attacking only when he believes religion is being used for political purposes, so that the satireizing of mohamed and the satireizing of jesus is only in the name of when religion is being used for politics. To understand his argument you have to understand some of the fundamental differences between the French Republic and the United States when it comes to religion. Of course, freedom of religion and freedom to practice religion is part of the founding of this country. Secular religion is on the forefront when it comes to the way that france deals with religion. Sometimes some of that gets lost in translation. And chuck, on tuesday, president obama will deliver his state of the Union Address. We know hes going to talk about taxes. Can you give us a little bit more info on that and what else we can expect to hear from him . Well look its coming across to me like its a 2012 campaign rerun. You have the president wanting to stake out the idea hes the protector of the middle class and if republicans dont go along with their plans, that theyre nothing but the protectors of the rich. You just look at this new tax plan hes proposing, which calls for some tax cuts for the middle class, paid for by tax hikes on the wealthy, targeting Investment Income and inheritance issues and things like that. I have to say, ive seen forms of this tax proposal for the last five years. They didnt go anywhere when democrats even had control of at least one chamber. Its hard to imagine this goes anywhere with republicans in charge of all of congress now. So i think the question is is this more of almost setting up a campaign argument that democrats will Carry Forward in 2016 . All right, chuck todd moderator of meet the press. A major pileup on the schuylkill expressway right now. Heres what we know. This has been going on for the past hour or so. This is in upper marion township. Were told that as many as 25 cars are involved in this Chain Reaction type of crash. This is in the westbound lanes of 76 near the gulf mills exit. So if you are out there this morning, definitely take another route. If youre traveling west on 76 so youre heading out of the city, find an alternative route. Also anybody whos out there on the roads, be careful, because we do have this rain and in some areas, its becoming icy. Michelle grossman has more on that. Were seeing a lot of spots that are seeing some very icy, icy conditions. Be careful.
