The ntsb says brandon bostians phone was used the dale day of the derailment but it is working to determine when the phone with a used and if it was used at the time the train was being operated. A dozen people remain in the hospital following last tuesdays derailment. Eight people died. The governor said he was surprised automatic train Safety Systems were not in operation on those tracks. I think the legislation calls for it to be fully installed throughout the system by the end of this year. I think theyre trying to do it earlier than that. So, yeah im concerned were all concerned. Philadelphia police tell us they are working to in a support role to ntsb investigators. Could be a year or more before the final report is issued. Graphic, violent and brutal. New report released today shows there are fewer high school dropouts. The report call ed a promise worth keeping was done by Childrens Hospital of philadelphia and johns hopkins. It finds 64 of ninth grader goesing into the citys Public Schools in 2008 graduated in four years. Thats an increase of 12 since 2006. Dropout rates fell from 29 to 25 . These gains have been achieved despite insufficient Public Education funding during the time of profound change at the School District. Graduation rates increased among all racial groups but hispanic and asian students showed the biggest gains. A former 911 operator now charged in the scam to get money from a fund that helped members of the military. Williams is facing a number of theft charges tonight. Prosecutors say he forged paperwork to get more than 55,000 from the city of philadelphia. The money is supposed to help active members in the military fighting the war on terror. He said crime was down 14 from 2012 to 2014. Williams also praised the new Police Foot Patrols in high crime areas. Might take a while because the issue here is a small metal component. It is found inside of the air bag of a number of vehicles. It is about the size of your fist. What the feds say can happen is that component can explode, sending shrapnel throughout the cab. And local dealerships and mechanics are on the front lines working to fix this growing problem. The Service Department at piazza honda has boxes upon boxes of brandnew air bags. As you can see, i have plenty here right now. I have about 200 in stock. Reporter each one will be installed in the car that has faulty takata inflaters. The small metal device made in japan inflates the air bag, but according to regulators it is also known to explode with shrapnel, six people have died, some 34 million vehicles are involved. This is the biggest recall that ive ever dealt with. The piazza repair team shows us this honda civic, the passenger side air bag is faulty. Pretty good process, just some screws and bolts. Reporter mechanics swap in a new inflater and this car is good to go. This is what they pulled out of there, one of 34 million faulty inflaters. This is not just affectingffecting brands both domestic and foreign. Toyota, bmw, ford, dodge, nissan and others have issued recalls affecting millions of drivers. It is very dangerous. Reporter the fix may be a ways off with a historic number of cars involved. It is very time consuming. Reporter mechanics say it could take two years to get through the backlog. Now, this is the website safer car. Gov, where you enter your vein number to determine if your car is on this massive recall list. This is a very broad recall not make and model specific. Pennsylvania isnt taking any chances when it comes to the bird flu outbreak. No birds tested positive in pennsylvania. State officials decided to suspend all poultry competitions at state approved fairs and the pennsylvania farm show. Nationwide the avian flu killed 34 million birds in 15 states and that does not include pennsylvania, new jersey or delaware. Pennsylvania does have a history with this disease. In 1983 and 84, an outbreak killed 17 million birds, worth 65 million. Today, the poultry and egg industry is responsible for 13 billion in Economic Activity throughout pennsylvania. Bad news for drivers heading to parts of the jersey shore for the memorial day weekend. The heavily traveled townsend inlet bridge will be closed as crews finish making repairs. The bridge connects Sea Isle City and avalon. It could stay closed for another three weeks. That means drivers will have to take a much longer detour. Heres how you do it. It is going to be kind of nasty down there tomorrow. But, again just remember we need the rain it is not happening on the holiday.
