Glenn, how is the wind a factor . Well, in general if you got a real strong wind all the smoke is blowing in the same direction. In this case we have the general light wind flow and when youre talking about fire its creating its own wind. So it creates its own little microclimate. So the prevailing wind might be a little bit out of the southeast, but wind is created with temperature differences. So if you have all that hot weather inside the fire its creating its own little wind pattern because the prevailing wind, as you an seecan see, is less than 10 miles an hour across the entire area right now, and more than two weeks without rain thats bad, too. The ground incredibly dry. Thank you very much glenn. Well check back with you later in this broadcast. Now your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz. Well we now have 16 Straight Days without measurable rain. Officially in philadelphia. Some places have had a little bit. But nobodys had a lot. The 80s are returning. The warm weather makes the ground dry out even more. We may have a tropical depression or storm forming that would be named anna, and well have the latest on the mothers day forecast. We have sunny skies. Weve had that for much of the day today. 79 degrees. Our high was 81. The wind is fairly light now out of the southwest. The pollen continues to be high. And until we get some significant rain that will continue into next week. The other thing that happens when you dont get rain the pollution builds up. So we have an ozone alert. Unhealthy for sensitive individuals tomorrow. Temperatures in the mid 70s to near 80 degrees. Much cooler right at the shore. We have wind coming in off the ocean, and the ocean is chilly. Well this disturbance down off the southeast coast is still not showing many signs of development. That would be the center over there. And Hurricane Hunter plane has found some pretty strong winds, but you dont have enough of a developed circulation for it to be named at least not yet. That could happen later tonight or tomorrow. We have some lowlevel moisture some fog that may be moving in to parts of the area overnight tonight and into tomorrow then another round coming tomorrow night and into saturday. As you can see, maybe widespread low clouds and fog to start off the day. Maybe a touch of drizzle. And even a chance of a couple showers developing during the afternoon. Nothing really significant, but its not necessarily going to be 100 dry this weekend. Theres sunday morning. Another round of those low clouds and fog that is going to be coming in during this weekend. The humidity is going to be going up and up and up. Little bit of that moisture creeping up from the tropical system farther to our south. And this is what the computer models have been saying. Not Much Movement over the next day or two, and here we are by monday morning, and some of the models dont even have it making landfall. So its certainly not coming up here fast. Now, after that time things might change a bit. Now, heres the circulation with the winds, and this is the rainfall with the future cast. So what i want you to watch is as we go through friday and saturday and sunday the rain the direct rain from this storm, is not coming up here. So if we get any showers saturday or sunday its not directly related to anna. But it is influencing the wind direction, so were getting the wind coming in off of the ocean. That means its not going to be especially warm the closer you get to the coast. Right at the shore, right on the boardwalk, right at the beach, its going to be kind of chilly saturday and sunday because of that wind direction. For tonight, clear and mild with fog at the shore. 61 for the low in philadelphia. 55 north and west. Mostly sunny and warm tomorrow. High temperatures into the mid 80s. So even warmer than today. And another warm set of days here. We have the morning fog and perhaps a little drizzle, then afternoon shower in some spots saturday. Mostly dry. And very warm and humid on sunday. And even warmer and more humid monday and tuesday. That would be our only real shot of getting some direct rain from anna but that could miss to our east as well. So well have to keep up on that. A daylong standstill as Philadelphia Police wait for an escaped prisoner to turn himself in. U. S. Marshals and police were at the home of 17yearold Hashim Singletary today. Most secure way is to use a belly main and handcuffs, and ill show you, where you have that movement but you have balance and then leg irons. The leg cuffs. Reporter investigators also say pts had the prisoner alone in the back seat of a rented kia, a car not designed to transport prisoners. If possible somebody should sit in the back. Reporter we contacted pts for comment. They havent returned our call. We also uncovered this isnt the first time the company has had prisoners escape. In 2008 an inmate escaped at Philadelphia International airport. In 2009 a prisoner facing attempted murder charges escaped on a drive from florida to philadelphia. And in 2013 8 inmates escaped from oklahoma after a pts van was left unattended. On the companys website, it claims its the largest prisoner Transportation Company in the country, with more than 100,000 detainees transported each year.
