In for another night with near freezing low temperatures. Yeah and a lot of places going below freezing tonight. And thats why we have freeze warnings. We have mostly clear skies. At least we have more sunshine during the day today than we had yesterday. Did not feel quite as cold. But the temperatures going down as the wind goes down, and freeze warning in effect from 2 00 to 8 00 a. M. For much of the area. And that is not all of it. We have frost advisories for the rest of the area because those places may not actually get to 32 at the instrument level, but the cold air can sink all the way to the ground, and you can still get some frost there. So you want to bring in the tender vegetation throughout the area pretty much tonight. Temperatures pretty uniform now because of the gusty winds. And boy, they are gusty up over 30 miles an hour. Still, and we have temperatures going down tonight. 28 in allentown, redding, Quakertown Doylestown 30 in norristown. Well show you the rest of those low temperatures. Encouraging words from a philadelphia officer recovering tonight after he was shot in the line of duty. Nbc 10 was there when the officer was released from the hospital. The suspect who allegedly shot costic still in the hospital tonight. Police just gave us this picture of William Nobblen. Hes in critical condition. Police say, though his next stop will be jail once he recovers. Nbc 10s drew smith is live in West Philadelphia tonight. Drew his fellow officers have been waiting all day to escort him home right . And it was well worth the wait, renee. And what a difference between last night and right now here at the 19th district. Officers were able to take their wounded colleague home to his kid and they have caught the man they accused of causing all this. In good spirits and ready to see his Young Children fellow officers wheeled daniel costic out of penn presbyterian medical center. He says hes feeling fine after taking a bullet to the arm. Good. Doing good. Tomorrow, hell celebrate his sons second birthday. Today, his family and the community are celebrating his health. Hes a true hero. He works late hours on a bicycle. Its what he was doing last night on masters street tracking down a man suspected of a drug crime. It ended with an exchange of gunfire. Right before police say the suspect told costic he didnt want to shoot but did it anyway. He has a history with police. Hes got a significant past and a weapon with him which he probablys not supposed to have. Word of an officer shot spread quickly, immediately rocking the department. Theyre all doing good. Theyre all doing good. You know we were using some of our resources to handle some issues, maybe some of our officers are having. Officers tell us theyre overwhelmed with the communitys support. People from all over the city have been calling to check in and share well wishes. They just want to say thanks for everybodys support. Judging by the upbeat costic today, his bosses dont think hell need much encouragement to get back on patrol. Well take it one day at a time. Just weeks ago, Philadelphia Police lost an officer in the line of duty. Officer Robert Wilson iii died in a shootout march 5th inside a gamestop store. Wilson was buying a present for his son when two men tried to rob the store. Brothers Ramon Williams and Carlton Hipps are charged with the murder. Tonight, were getting a look at the mother accused of abandoning her son in a park. Parler returned to philadelphia yesterday after spending several days in a maryland hospital. Police say parler ditched her quadriplegic son with nothing but a bible and a blanket at cobbs creek park. A passer by found the disabled man april 10th. Parler is facing several charges, including attempted murder. New at 6 00 police busted a jersey shore doctor accused of running a prescription pill ring. He could face life in prison if convicted. Investigators uncovering about 1,000 oxycodone pills prescribed illegally. Police also arrested five other people. Philadelphia police trying to figure out if a chinese food delivery man was shot and killed in a botched robbery attempt. Last night he was discovered in his car in the 500 block in crescentville. Hed been shot in the shoulder. Police say he was making a food delivery to the hill creek apartment when the shooting happened. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Just based on what we have right now, it appears to be a robbery. Police say a 20,000 reward is available for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case. Its just over a year ago when Philadelphia Police shot a pizza delivery man, two plain clothed officers responding when they say philippe holland. He got into his car and thats when the officers fired shots. Investigators believe it is possible holland didnt hear the officers identify themselves or he thought he was being robbed. Tonight, family and friends plan to pass out flyers to find a deadly hitandrun driver. David and his mother were trying to cross the street when they were hit. The driver didnt stop. Today, about a dozen kids from the lighthouse preschool program helped plant a tree in his memory. Riveras sister is enrolled in that preschool and was part of the group today. Davids family has been part of the lighthouse for many years. The school wanted to honor davids memory with something that would live on. The 2yearold died a couple of days after he was hit. His mother was released from the hospital shortly thereafter. Police say the couple that owns the car turned it over to investigators a week ago but say they were not the ones driving the car. They say they loaned the car to a 19yearold relative. She says she wants the driver responsible for her sons death to take responsibility. You know, i want to hurry up and catch him. Hes out here somewhere. You know he might be passing to my house sometimes, trying to look at my face or something or, you know hes out here, trust me. He is. Theres a 20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the hitandrun driver. Police now know who theyre looking for in an interrupted burglary. An arrest warrant has been issued for this man, matthew heckman. But hes not yet in custody. This is video that helped lead to his identification. He got on a septa train after police say he was caught burglarizing a home. He was confronted by the homeowners as he took a suitcase filled with loot from the house. Its a persistent problem at the Municipal Park in townsend new castle county. And its gotten so bad that neighbors are now fighting back. Nbc 10 Delaware Bureau reporter tim furlong found out how the town is taking matters into its own hands. Tim . Basically, the town is telling and the people who live beyond the park, that they need to keep reporter even on cold days Townsend Park is hopping. Place to bring the kids. The park has been popular with vandals. The mayors fed up. Every time the town improves the park vandals mess something up. Keeps happening . Reporter the town has to lock up the trash can lids, they cant get the spilled paint off the half pipe. Theyve had to replace expensive back boards they loosen the chains on the swings. And after the town recently brought electricity to the park vandals immediately ripped open the switch boxes. My guess is that its just kids thinking its funny and its not. Its not funny if you guys . Absolutely not. Some officers live and park near the park. On the town website, we found 1,000 reward up for grabs for information leading to an arrest and asked state troopers to swing by every now and then. Just doing the paperwork, traffic stop reports or what have you. And hopefully that will deter some of the activities. And they do now have lights in the gazebo and the pavilion. I asked the mayor about surveillance cameras. He says the town doesnt have money for a system big enough to watch the entire 10acre park hes hoping the reward, troopers and certainly observant neighbors will help solve this very annoying problem. The marina in Cape May County reported the boat stolen today. It has a Center Console with a dark blue hull. Its valued at nearly 140,000. The boat was last seen at the marina april 1st. From our Jersey Shore Bureau the cold weather blast weve seen over the past few days has local farmers worried about the crop. At sunny slope farms in hopewell township, its been close to a decade since the peach trees have had to deal with cool weather in late april. While the crops at the farm in the borough are about two weeks behind schedule. Agriculture experts say at this point, these farming challenges should not impact how much we pay for produce at the grocery store. Glenn, we are not going to get a break from those chilly temperatures. At least not tonight. Yeah thats right. And certainly hope the peaches survive. Love peaches. One of the few fruits i can actually eat. Weve got a freeze warning in effect for much of the area overnight tonight. That means the actual temperature going to 32 or below. Less wind. Not only tonight but for the entire weekend for a change. And were tracking southern rain, especially delaware and perhaps Cape May County. Still windy out there as you can see hasnt really let up much. 56 degrees 18mileanhour winds gusting to 29, the humidity is very low. 19 . And that will help the temperature drop. As soon as the wind starts dropping, that will happen right after sunset right around 8 00 and the temperature will be down into the 40s by midnight. Some places down into the 30s. And by 6 00 a. M. , of course, in philadelphia, were down to 34 but maybe even in the 20s in some of the suburbs. Its pretty uniform now in the mid50s because its still pretty windy. But its 41 at mt. Pocono. Just how cold the air mass is. The wind direction is still the same as its been. But look at the gusts. Still close to 30 miles an hour. In a good bit of the area. But in a couple of hours, that is going to change dramatically, i think. The freeze warning, 2 to 8 00 a. M. For most of the area the frost advisory for the rest of the area. So that means just about everybody is going to have to take some kind of protection for the outdoor sensitive plants and flowers. Down to 32 in west chester and mt. Holly, 34 in dover, 28 degrees in vineland. Now, were going to be seeing some showers that are coming back from the west. That is going to track south of the area. The storm is not going to come at us directly. But were going to be on the Northern Edge and so that means the best chance of any kind of rain is in delaware. That would be saturday night and sunday morning. For the rest of the night, were going to be seeing mostly clear skies, the freeze and the frost, 34 in philadelphia 28 in some of the suburbs.
