Last. Two back of the playoff. Stenson one out of the playoff. And we are headed to just the second playoff in the 15year history of this event. Previous one coming back in 12 when luke donald won a fourman playoff. With a birdie on the first extra hole. So theyre going to go back to the 18th if it doesnt get settled there, back to the beginning of the snake pit. What a performance down the stretch for Jordan Spieth. Little did we know when we got to the golf course today what was in store. The final round of the valspar championship. What a finish. Reed first of all birdied the 18th. One of four birdies on the back nine. Five birdies, no bogeys for him. He finishes with a 66. Ohair had the great par at 18. And spieth just kept pulling rabbits out of the hat all day long especially down the stretch. There is sean ohair in what is the biggest day in a long long time in his career. Talking about it all week. How he lost all the confidence the swing in his game and yet here he is with a chance to pick up a pga tour victory. He was a rookie of the year at one point. Jordan spieth was a rookie of the year at one point on the pga tour. Patrick reed has a chance to pick up five victories before he turns 25. It will be very interesting. All good stories. No question about it. Of the three. Im not sure anyone has the advantage. Although Jordan Spieth made some unbelievable putts there on the back nine. One putt to 13 14 16 17 and 18. Just did not look like he was going to be in the position that hes in. So if you just joined us. Some of the examples of how this all happened. Ryan moore the 54hole leader by one. He bogeyed the second and the third to fall back to 8 under. This from 174 yards with a 7 iron at the 6th to take a twoshot lead at the time. Eagle drops for more and it looked like he was in control. Then patrick reed for birdie at the 12th has just kept inching his way up the leaderboard his third birdie to get to that 8 under number. He was still chasing, and this was ohairs third at the 14th. And not an easy little pitch here from short of the green. Judges the distance. Absolutely perfectly. So ohair picks up the birdie to get to 9 under and then spieth had the same hole after birdieing the 13th with a beautiful tee shot there. Drops this one in for backtoback birdies, and he ties with ryan moore at that point at 10 under. And then reed, another one at 15. Pretty straight putt. He hits it firmly enough again. You can see hes into it to get this fist pumps. He knows hes got a chance. At that point reed is one back and sean ohair at the par 4 16th to get to the 10 under number. Just the fifth birdie of the day at the difficult par 4 16th. He ended up parring the last two. He got in at 10 under and then at 18 boy was this some quality clutch play with the pressure on. Reed with a birdie. To cap off a 66. And then ohair with this little knee knocker. After he bellied that wedge from a difficult position. Huge save for par for ohair to get into that 10 under number. When it looked like spieth really didnt have much of a chance at all, just like he showed us all back nine delivers a clutch par save of his own. To get in at that 10 under number. Just one of the best golf tournaments we have seen this pga tour season. I mean its been a great start to the florida swing. We had the honda classic which was good. We saw pad rake harrington win there. Dustin johnson last week in miami. And so while the guys get ready to tee it up again at 18 lets get our thoughts from some of our other guys. Start off with you mark rolfing. You made the comment earlier you did think this was the best event weve seen so far in the pga tour season. Its amazing dan. Two years ago this tournament was on life support and i do believe this is the best tournament weve seen all year on the pga tour. Pretty good stuff . Everyones talking about patrick reed and Jordan Spieth. Dont forget about sean ohair. Hes coming back and he wants to win again. I think hes got a good shot. Getting things started at 18. Gary hendrickson the ceo of valspar. Excellent host is going to assist us here and were going to play 18 16, 17 rand 18 in the playoff. Patrick you finished first so youll golf first and then sean youll draw and then jordan youll draw. Gary . Okay . Patrick drew one. Hell lead off. Two, sean. Three jordan. Play well, gentlemen. So patrick reed will get things going again. He took that driver gary and he just smacked it down there. He did. To be honest with you, to me its not a comfortable shot trying to fit a draw into this fairway. It first three rounds missed the fairway to the left. You have to take this ball down the treeline if youre going to play a draw and find the fairway. Of course the last time he played it he made the birdie. So see what he can do here. Absolutely gutted. Gutted it up the right drew it right to the center. Sean ohair is next. We remember where he went. Wasnt too long ago right behind our tower notah. You guys are busy up in that tower. I dont think he wants to come by again. Sean to the far righthand side of the tee so hes going to go back to trying to hit that little low cut that he was working on on the practice tee earlier today. Overdid it in regulation. Hes overdone it again. Oh, thats found the cart path. Yep. Well see if hes got a window from there. Now spieth. Spieth has struggled here on the 18th as well. Hes missed the fairway left three times. Thats okay when youre houdini. This balm drawing to the left side of the fairway close to the bunker. Its going to come up just short. And just off the fairway. So no real issue there. So a fleeman playoff on the way at 18. Whos going to take it, ohair, reed or spieth . And take the valspar championship. Pe nn state is right here in greater philidelphia. Take a look from atop innisbrook resort and the copperhead course and the metlife blimp snoopy i. The author of all those beautiful views from high above some 1500 feet in the air, metlife premier client, their unique perspective. So what about ohair this time notah . Well hes almost up against the cart path. Hes going to be standing on it. Where the ball sits now, hes got a clear shot at the hole. But, as he takes relief hell be bringing this tree thats about 30 yards in front of him into play. Right i can just check them off. Checking with pga tour official mark russell that it is okay to remove some loose impediment before he actually drops the ball within one clublength of where he was free and clear of the cart path. Beautiful. Thank you. Okay. Longer shot notah than he had in regulation . Yeah hes got about 11 yards further. And tree in front of him has to be thought about but shouldnt really come into play. Im loving 6. Yeah. 74 cover. 74 cover . 74 covers it. I like it. Okay. Well, thats unusual. Player going against his caddie. Suggesting the 6 iron. But i like this. Because this is what he feels is the right club. And that goes oh, wait a second. On further review. Yeah. Hes going to go with the caddie. Which i would have rather seen him stick with the 5 iron because thats what he fit and thats what hes been working on so much is playing by feel. Goodlooking shot falling left of the hole. Good call. Thats a good shot from there. Yep, he didnt mess around with that stuff in front of the green. He covered, indeed. Nice. Lower body quiet. Feet wont slip. When he was on his game all those years ago, gary as high as 12th in the world, beautiful swing. Now reed from 151. Great for his high draw. Turned just left of the hole. Comes up short. Little bit of breeze theyre into the players. Uphill shot. The players factor in about seven or eight yards extra. Out of the stitch mark in there. But get a better report in just a moment. Now spieth rog. Just off the edge of the fairway, 145. This looks like an 8 iron to me. Fryshould be the perfect club. Hes hit it very, very high. If its up. It is. Jordan spieth. He is licking his lips like he liked it. And this could be the end of it all if Jordan Spieth can wrap that home. We will see. Nd the one. Our piece of the dream. Home sweet home. Here to stay. Permanent. Rooted. Reisdents. Relocated . Ive been relocated. Packing up shop. Headed out of dodge. Hitting the bricks. Calling the bank. A short term world needs a long term bank. For great rates and stepbystep guidance from of the nations top mortgage lenders call on u. S. Bank. Onward upward patrick reed not okay here at 18. Ball buried right below the lip of the bunker. And his reaction when he saw it break came out somewhere down the bottom. But not to be. Really tough here. Ball wants to squirt to the rough right. Did it pretty well. Everybodys been scrambling at 18. Why not have patrick reed join the group of great saves that weve seen. Just hit behind it. Worry about the follow through. Well he saved that spieth has come alive, i think weve seen it all today. He hopes that he has the chance. Thats true. To make that putt to stay alive. Because spieth is lined up for a birdie that could be a winner. But ohair is lining up for one of his own. We saw reed make one from back here in the vicinity earlier this afternoon. And notah, this is on a similar line to where he played his third shot in regulation. Is that not correct . So he should have a pretty good idea about how it moves. Gary you took the words right out of my mouth. His ball was sitting down in a pseudocollection area of the left Center Section of this green. And he knows what it does. Line up to spieth. Going to be close. And he hit it so that sets the stage for Jordan Spieth. To win it with a birdie on the first extra hole. Guy that has such a clear idea of where he wants to go. Talking with him last night. He said yeah theres a bit of a changing of the guard on tour golf needs somebody to carry the game the way that tiger and phil have for such a long time. Doesnt need to be one person he said but rorys doing that now and doing it really well and then i thought it was really interesting what he said next rory is the guy that all of us are chasing and hes the one that im focused on. Hes the guy that we have to challenge. And raise our game up to where he is. So hes not shy about telling anybody that he wants to be the number one player in the world. And he just is birdie putt away from putting away his second pga tour victory. Before the age of 22 to join only three others in the last 75 years to do it. Just over ten feet. So the playoff is going to continue will it be two or three . Got this little short one and remember reed still has a chance to join him at the beginning of the snake pit at 16. Well i think he hit a good putt there, dan. Speed was really good. He was looking and expecting it to break a little bit more to the left. Patrick reed actually 2en 0 on the tour in playoffs. 10 this season beat spieth in 2013 in greensboro. Now has a chance to join the group back at the 16th. What will be an amazing clutch up and down underneath the lip of the bunker. It will be three at 16. What a save by reed this guy is tough. Birdie in regulation gary and one of those virtually impossible saves. How good is this golf been . Well it has been great, dan. We have seen any number of well executed shots, clutch putts. And many people will tell you that these are the two best Young Americans in the game. Just not only from a skill level but from a clutch play level. And so it was really no surprise that they were the heart and soul of an american losing team at gleneagles. Sean ohair will join them at the beginning of the snake pit again. To be asked is what is it that we can do that is impactful . What the cloud enables is computing to empower cancer researchers. It used to take two weeks to sequence and analyze a genome; with the microsoft cloud we can analyze 100 per day. Whatever i can do to help compute a cure for cancer, thats what id like to do. Back to the 16th, the second playoff hole patrick reed on the tee. This is solidlooking tee shot. He was in the left rough. Chased that a little too far. Yep. In the left rough earlier, just a few holes ago. Hes familiar with that position. I dont think hell have any tree issues though this time peter. Hell be all right. Sean ohair remember gary he hit it in the water to the right on friday. Made double bogey. But he birdied here on saturday and earlier today. So hes got to have a good feel. See if he tries to play the lefttoright shot, which he did. In regulation. Just a little bit. Really high trying to work back toward the fairway. Perfect left side good angle to that hole location which is back right. Jordan earlier today found the middle of the fairway. He played this hole in two over this week. Bogeys thursday friday, and pars saturday, sunday. Thats fine too. No tree trouble there. So two balls in the left rough. One in the left side of the fairway as we head down this 16th hole second playoff hole so sean ohairs reaction back at the 18th. Patrick reed. Yeah. Baby. How about Jordan Spieth. Its your fourth and final stop on the florida swing. The Arnold Palmer invitational presented by mastercard. Rory mcilroy for the first time will be there. Top ranked player in the world begins thursday 1 00 on golf channel. Saturday 2 30 eastern time on nbc. As we take a look at that hole location at 16. By the way, neither spieth nor reed both texans will be at bay hill theyll stay in san antonio or houston before the masters. You see players trying to fit it in that fairway there about 30 yards wide. Once you get to that tee shot. You turn to the right. Theres the green hole location back right. Players are going to have no trouble fitting that ball into that green between the trees. But when you get to that green, presents a whole bunch of different problems. Bumps and rolls. Down off the right
