So thats a live look right now at storm force, but heres a first alert thats going to stay in effect until 9 00 a. M. For the dangerous ice, overpasses sidewalks, especially, parking lots side streets, even streets that have been plowed already, as we have cars go by it heats up the moisture then it refreezes, because temperatures are below freezing or just at freezing, you want to be very careful. So just because its been plowed, doesnt mean its on the safe side. Very slick and messy roads for us expected at least through 9 00 a. M. Heres a look at the leftover moisture that were dealing with a mix of rain. A wintry mix and even isolated snow showers and then a closer look at these wakeup temperatures. So were mainly in the 30s right now, but at least through 9 00 a. M. , our temperatures will start to get above freezing for philadelphia trenton, down the shore. But if you take a look at allentown and reading, still below freezing, even at night. So you still want to be careful if you live in those areas. And even the poconos, temperatures at 27 degrees by 9 00 a. M. And the great thing is as we head into the afternoon, we are going to push into the 40s. Ill have your sevenday forecast, coming up. Earlier today, a fire truck slid on the ice and hit a parked car on 24th and brown street in philadelphias fairmont neighborhood. There was a thick layer of slush at the time. Hes also salting and trying to melt the ice on the street and doing a decent job. This is all slush. This is all slush. The problem, heres the problem, right here. Once you get to the sidewalk this is all ice. And im walking gingerly because its easy see to slip. We have some video we want to show you of some of the folks that were out in manayunk during the overnight hours, headed home, this is bob baylor trying to walk up to one of the problem spots. Police checked in with the Fifth District and they said that terrace was a bad spots, had a lot of icy spots and complaints from neighbors, saying salting needed to be done. And bob had parked his car here and you can see how difficult it was for him to make his way up the hill. Well hear comments from him coming up and then when you made it up the hill trying to get in his car and leave, that was another headache. Well talk about all of that in about 30 minutes. Thanks jesse. See you then. We are following some breaking news overseas from overnight. A ferry accident in bangladesh in just the last 15 minutes, we have learned that seven people have died. A cargo ship hit the ferry on the padmasree river. The ferry capsized and sank with about 100 people on board. A rescue operation is still underway. Back here in the northeast, investigators are trying to figure out what caused a house fire in north jersey that claimed the lives of two young children. Officials say 6yearold jada and her 1yearold brother, zion tony died inside the home in orange essex county. They were trapped on the third floor as the flames spread quickly friday night. Neighbors say relatives called for the girl to jump out of the window, that they would catch her, but she didnt. One man even tried to run back into the building to save the kids, but firefighters quickly pulled him out. Two other people in the home were hurt during the fire. Theres no word yet on their conditions. In western pennsylvania a man is facing charges of killing his mother who was a retired college professor. The victim ruth shirey taught geography for nearly 40 years. Her son is accused of beating her to death inside the home they sheerared near altoona. The suspect had been treated for Mental Health issues. The murder trial will resume tomorrow. She claims her illegal body sculpting services were so popular that clients called her the Michael Angelo of but the tox injections. Shes accused of killing a woman after he injected her. She left after the woman had trouble breathing and she died later that day. The trial is expected to last for two weeks. S in karr nascar fans are revving for for todays daytona 500. Yesterday, an Appeals Panel upheld buschs indefinite suspension from racing. Buschs suspension stems from an incident at Dover International speedway last september. Authorities claim he beat and choked his former girlfriend. Busch denies the allegations. Nascar fans at daytona have mixed reactions. A pretty harsh ruling for kurt and i feel bad for him. I hate to see him leave the sport because of it but i think its probably the right thing to do. Kurt busch is the first nascar driver ever suspended for Domestic Violence allegations. He has not been charged with a crime. Kurts brother, kyle also had a rough saturday at daytona. A tencar pileup caused kyles car to spin out and crash into an unprotected inside wall. His pregnant wife went to see if her husband was okay. Kyle busch was alert and responsive, but he was taken to the hospital with what nascar says is a leg injury. According to officials, kyle, like his brother kurt will not race in todays daytona 500. So some people are making the most out of this winter weather. Theyre having fun with the ice. Were seeing dangerous icy conditions, and thats especially true for our overpasses sidewalks, side streets, parking lots, what were seeing is a thin coating of ice over some of the snow thats already fallen. Slushy conditions on our roadways, very slick, especially when you park your car and get out of the car in the parking lot. You could be stepping on just a total sheet of ice. So you want to be very careful over at least the next three hours or so until our temperatures get above freezing. Were already starting to see clearing here for parts of Lehigh Valley and also the poconos. Closer to the shore in south jersey, still rain coming down and will linger into the next few hours or so. Theres a live look at the poconos and Camelback Mountain where we can see that the snow has since stopped. But if you take a closer look at 95, youll notice that were seeing slick roads out there, and if you take a look at how slow the cars are going, so if you have anywhere to be this morning, make sure you allow extra time to get where youre going. Just take it easy slow down. It is still very icy and slushy on the roads. Right now our temperatures for the poconos in the mid20s. Our temperatures will start to improve once we get rid of some of the rainfall. Were still having the possibility of freezing rain for wilmington stretching out into dover and millville. According to officials, Glenn Hoffman and his teenage daughters were found dead at their home yesterday afternoon. Hoffman recently retired from the White Plains Police department, where he served for more than 22 years. Today, there will be a black History Month celebration at Rutgers University camden. But if i switch you over to the satellite radar shot you can see the clearing edge there, and throughout most of our western suburbs and Lancaster County were already seeing drying conditions. Temperatures are still hovering pretty close to that freezing mark, so were still dealing with ice on the roadways parking lots and sidewalks, but most of the rain is mainly confined to parts of south jersey and right along the shore and starting to clear up in philadelphia, although if we take a live look at 95 you can see the wet roads there. And look how slow everyone oncoming traffic is going. And thats really what you need to do this morning, is take it easy on the roads there. Once he got to his car he tried to get his car out of a space and he had a lot of problems because theres ice underneath the wheels so hes kind of trapped inside that space a little bit. A lot of spinning tires trying to get out of that. Those are the conditions youll find when you get out this morning. As i mentioned in the last half hour plows are out. They are plowing and salting. Everybody kept going inside with fire extinguishers and trying to get the baby out. One man tried to run back into the burning building to save the kids but firefighters pulled him away. Seven people were home at the time of the fire two went to the hospital. Theres no word yet on their conditions. We have some new information this morning about a bucks county man accused of hitting a Police Officer with a stolen car. That man is now facing attempted murder charges. Investigators say 25yearold Matthew Shipe backed the car into the officer, who was trying to stop him at a 7eleven in morrisville. He then took off. The officer shot shipe and he eventually crashed the car. Both are doing okay. Nascar fans are revving up for todays daytona 500, but they will not see kurt busch behind the wheel at daytona or any other tracks for a while. It will wind through the streets of chinatown, so drivers in that area should expect delays. Due to the weather, todays mummers Mardi Gras Parade in manayunk is postponed until next saturday. Organizers made the call thursday after seeing the weekend forecast. The parade is a fundraising event for the string bands association. Again, the mummers Mardi Gras Parade in manayunk is now set for next saturday, from 10 00 until noon. All eyes are on the ice palace, as its known, in west philadelphia. The city is worried that it could come crashing down. But this morning, there are no plans to demolish the building. Well tell you why.
