In Critical Condition in the hospital after a hitandrun in philadelphias feltonville neighborhood. Police are investigating whether the victim could have been fleeing from an Armed Robbery from earlier in the night. At the scene on wyoming avenue, police say they found a gun and a mask which both matched the description given by the robbery victim. According to police, two men armed with guns, one of them wearing a mask held up a pizza delivery worker on nearby tampa street. Detectives are still looking into this possible connection between the two crime scenes. We will keep you posted. Philadelphia police say a man who crashed his car in the citys long crest neighborhood is in stable condition right now. And a female passenger is critical. The accident happened around 3 00 this morning on north street. According to police at the scene, the car was speeding when the driver went through a backyard hit a column on a porchs house and then flipped over. This crash is currently under investigation. This morning, we are following a developing story. Right now, a search is under way for a missing airasia flight. The plane vanished with 162 people onboard. The jet took off from indonesias surabaya airport and was on its way to singapore. Officials say there was no distress call before the crew lost contact with ground control. Reporter indonesian authorities have dispatched search and rescue teams to look for this missing plane. We do have some new video that we just got into our newsroom, it shows family and friends waiting for answers at the airport in singapore. Airasia says flight 8501 was on the way to singapore when it lost contact with air Traffic Control just before 7 30 last night, eastern time. There are 162 people onboard, including 155 passengers. None of whom were told are americans. What youre looking at right there, its an image of what the plane looks like an air bus a 320. That is not the exact plane, but what we do know right now is that the crew was concerned about the weather conditions. A statement from airasia reads in part the aircraft was on the submitted flight plan route and was requesting deviation due to inrout weather before communication with the aircraft was lost while it was still under the control of the Indonesian Air Traffic Control. This disappearance comes months after a Malaysia Airlines jet disappeared. No wreckage has ever been found. But investigators think that plane crashed somewhere in the indian ocean. Now, the past couple of hours Malaysia Airlines sent out a tweet saying their thoughts and prayers are with the friends and families of those onboard airasia flight 8501. In other news members of Law Enforcement from pennsylvania new jersey, and delaware joined thousands from across the country to say farewell to a falling nypd officer. The funeral for officer rafael ramos was held at a Queens Church yesterday. He and his partner wenjian liu were shot and killed while they shall in their patrol car. The gunman was seriously troubled, then killed himself. Colleagues said they felt a sense of duty to attend yesterdays service. This is what Law Enforcement is about. Its about family. About brotherhood. Sisterhood. Really hits close to home when you hear an officers lost his life. After the service, the body of officer ramos was carried out of the church with family members of his slain partner standing by. Some nypd officers watching on a big screen just outside the funeral turned their backs to mayor bill de blasio. Police Union Officials say the mayor contributed to a climate of mistrust toward the police while there were those protests going on. Inside the service, de blasio was greeted warmly. All of this city is grieving. And grieving for so many reasons, but the most personal is that weve lost such a good man. Both ramos and liu have been posthumously promoted to firstgrade detective. The funeral for liu will be next saturday in brooklyn. The killings of those officers have brought a new perspective to the ongoing debate over police tactics. Yesterday in los angeles, protesters angered by the Police Killings of eric garner and Michael Brown called for change. Outside boston a counterdemonstration. People there showed their support for the Police Officers. Back here at home in philadelphia, more than 100 demonstrators took to the streets. Leaders of muslims mobilized against Police Brutality called for an tend to the killings of unarmed black men by the Police Officers, a reference of course to Michael Brown and eric garner. They also brought up brandon brown. He was shot and killed by Philadelphia Police nearly two weeks ago. A march for brown is planned for tuesday of this week. Two months after shutting down its high school an embattled Philadelphia Charter School announces its completely closing. Families got letters this weekend telling them that Walter Palmer Charter School will shut down on december 31st. Walter palmer points to financial difficulties. The charter owes over a Million Dollars to the Philadelphia School district. That order came down earlier this year after the state Supreme Court found that the charter was collecting money from the district for too many students. As a result, the charters high school closed. This morning, police are trying to figure out if two recent Grocery Store holdups in south philadelphia are connected. Police say this is one of the suspects from the first robbery. This happened tuesday afternoon at susans grocery on south 13th street. The man and an accomplice got away with about 500. The second robbery happened on Christmas Day at joes food market. Investigators say the teenage suspect pulled a gun, but ran away without taking anything. The robbers in both cases are still on the loose. The governors of new york and new jersey have vetoed a bill designed to clean up the troubled Port Authority and proposed a series of reforms instead. The bill was designed to make changes to the agency known for scandals including the lane closures on the gw bridge. Chris christies administration got caught up in. Part of the bill would have created an Inspector Generals Office and a Whistleblower Protection Program as well as restricted lobbying. Both governors say they will ask Port Authority Board Members to resign. Pennsylvanias attorney general has filed papers to end a 14year marriage. Kathleen cane says the marriage is irretrievably broken. Shes faced criticism for stopping an investigation into gifts to lawmakers. And a grand jury is looking into whether her office violated secrecy laws by disclosing information to the Philadelphia Daily News on other stories. A new partnership between restaurants and Community Groups in philadelphia is helping feed those in need. Heres how it works. Volunteers pick up leftover food from restaurants and catering companies, then bring the food to various shelters in the city. Its the work of a group called philly food connection. We wanted to bridge the gap between hunger and food excess. Theres so much food that we waste, and we want to make sure that people who need it can get it. Organizers say they meet people daily who live in a food insecure house and they want them to have a hot meal and one less issue to deal with daily. This morning, the community of flagstaff, arizona is mourning the loss of a Rookie Police officer who was shot and killed while responding to a Domestic Violence call. 24yearold Tyler Stewart was on the police force less than a year. He was looking for a man involved in the Domestic Violence incident yesterday when that suspect fired several shots at him. The suspect then shot and killed himself. Stewart, by the way, is just the second flagstaff Police Officer ever to be killed in the line of duty. Police in maryland are investigating a case of christmas vandalism that theyre calling a possible hate crime. According to investigators, somebody spray painted racial slurs, swastikas, and profanity on holiday decorations toys and other Christmas Gifts that were left outside a half dozen homes. It happened between friday night and saturday morning in kensington. Police are now continuing to look for the vandals. In fresno california, Police Arrested a man whom they say vandalized an Islamic Cultural Center on christmas morning. According to authorities, the man used rocks to smash seven glass doors. An American Flag and other items inside the center were covered in bleach. The centers manager says the suspect stole their sense of security. Its painful, because we do so much with our friends and neighbors in this community. We have great relationships in the community. Were a place thats open and welcoming to everybody. The police chief initially called the breakin a hate crime, but relatives of the suspect say that he is schizophrenic and this is a case of mental illness. Police will let fbi agents decide whether hate crime charges are warranted. It was one of the worst natural disasters in history. A tsunami that killed hundreds of thousands of people and there wasnt much notice. The new technology in place to make sure that lives are protected the next time. Its definitely going to feel like winter finally. Weve seen a break from those cold conditions, but they are back. A current look at our temperatures in philadelphia. 43 degrees with light rain coming down at the airport. Humidity at 82 . Wind speeds out of the west at six miles per hour. We are dealing with the windchill, so it feels like temperatures are closer to the high 30s, but 42 degrees with rain coming down in reading. Rain for philadelphia. And 47 degrees in Atlantic City with mostly cloudy skies. Heres a closer look where some of the heaviest and steadiest rain is closer to allentown, just to the north of norristown and just outside of reading. Well continue to see this moisture heading in. And even into the afternoon and evening. So this is on and off spotty showers. Not a whole lot of rainfall expected. Maybe a quarter of an inch for us today but you can see all the moisture moving in ahead of a cold front that is going to drop our temperatures. So heres how your day is going to progress. Again, spotty showers expected to continue. By 5 00 p. M. Well see steady rainfall moving into parts of dover, Atlantic City cumberland, salem counties, and then heading into our overnight hours. The lingering showers are mainly going to be for Atlantic City. All points south. Same thing for dover. Then the cold air will start to move in throughout monday and into tuesday. So well continue to see our temperatures dropping down. This is one of our last mild days. Our average for this time of year, 42 degrees. 50 for today. But then we drop down heading into monday 46 degrees and thats just the beginning of our temperatures, which will continue to decrease. 48 to 52 degrees. Spotty showers. Thats the forecast for today. This week marks the tenth anniversary of the indian ocean tsunami that killed hundreds of thousands of people. Reporter when that wall of water came crashing through years ago, the world was stunned. No one has ever seen anything like it. No one has come close to predicting it, and with no Warning System hundreds of thousands paid with their lives. It was literally a big shock to the International Community about the potential for Destructive Forces of earthquakes and tsunamis. Reporter fast forward to 2014 to the jakarta tsunami Early Warning system. Detected earthquake. Reporter where they monitor one of the most active fault lines on earth. The same one that ruptured in 2004. Earthquake pings come almost hourly. Staff have just five minutes to detect a shake and its strength from the ocean floor, determining if theres any change in water height from buoys, where and when a wave would hit, and then send out a warning via local agencies, tv radio, and text. If you had a system like this you could save you think at least half of the people that died in the tsunami . Yeah. Reporter in the ten years since the sumatra quake, the systems have been repeatedly tested and evacuation drills practiced. But it could be better. Indonesia has three wave detection buoys. It wants 25. And as of now, there are none in the banda sea. Do you have the right buoy in a spot that we think is capable of generating a tsunami, and does it work. Oh, my god ultimately, though, its whats called the final mile that may be the most worrisome. Specifically getting people to remember that their world can change in an instant. On one island that was very close to the epicenter of the quake, almost everybody survived and thats because they knew from previous experience to get to Higher Ground when the ocean started to recede before the tsunami. Two years later, people are still dealing with the aftermath of hurricane sandy. A federal judge in new york has ordered Insurance Companies to produce thousands of additional records related to the super storm. It comes after 1,500 homeowners say some engineering firms hired to inspect damage issued bogus reports. Lawyers claim that the reports gave Insurance Companies a reason to deny the claims, but the Insurance Companies say they were processing the claims on behalf of fema and that none of their money was at stake. Business is booming at some colorado ski resorts and its not really because of the weather or the skiing. Its the marijuana. However, not everyone is buying it. This is nbc 10 news. It means big business for many of colorados famed ski towns, but the resorts are handling the new industry in very different ways. In aspen, for example, marijuana shops are just steps from high end boutiques like gucci, prada, and ralph lauren. Officials say its a way to target tourists, but in another popular spot breckenridge they are taking a very different approach. The town voted to kick the dispensaries off main street. Those pot shops moved miles away, away from all the foot traffic and thats angered some shop owners. You dont have to like it. You dont have to use it. You dont have to sell it. But marijuana is part of this culture right now and you do have to accept it. The studies show in the Colorado Mountain resort 90 of marijuana sales are to out of state visitor. Thousands of Police Officers including members of Law Enforcement from pennsylvania new jersey and delaware, gave a final salute to one of the two nypd officers killed in the ambush in brooklyn. Yesterday, beat cops, park rangers, jail guards, and state troopers from coast to coast gathered at a church in queens, new york, for ramoss funeral. His flagdraped casket was carried past a sea of salutes. Tributes continued inside the church for more than an hour. They began with Vice President joe biden. To the ramos family we are all lucky to have rafael. He didnt just have a bible in his locker he lived it in his heart. He was a cop for all, all the right reasons. After the service, the family members of officer ramos and his partner were there to help carry the casket out of the church. Protesters also marched in remembrance of brandon brown, who was shot to death by Philadelphia Police earlier this month after investigators say he reached for a loaded handgun when they pulled him over. But it just means we have to guard ourselves sometimes. Brandon browns family is planning a march for justice in the citys frankfurt neighborhood on tuesday. This week parents will be scrambling now that their school has suddenly closed. We now know what caused the death of a 93yearold woman who was almost hit by a truck that plowed into her bucks county home. The driver sped off after crashing into the house on red brook lane on friday. An autopsy now revealed that 93yearold Jenny Rousseau died of natural causes. It was just a few hours after the truck nearly struck rousseau while she was sleeping in her bed. She wasnt physically injured by the accident, but she was disturbed and shaken up. The 20yearold accused driver is not in custody right now. The District Attorney is Still Deciding what charges to file. This morning, a philadelphia man is in Critical Condition after he helped others escape from his burning home. Flames hit the house along north 8th street in hunting park yesterday afternoon. Witnesses say the man jumped right into action. They tell us he ran in and out of the burning building to save the people inside. His main goal was to save them. There was no questions asked. Did what he had to do and im glad everybodys alive. That man is still in the hospital. We are checking on his condition. Investigators are trying to figure out exactly what caused this fire. Its getting to be that time of the year and its the end of the year. Today the mummers will be strutting at the Pennsylvania Convention center. Its the first day of mummers fest. But the combination of the cooler temperatures and the wind speeds, we have a feels like temperature of 39 degrees. Its actually 43 at the airport with light rainfall coming down. Throughout the rest of the region rain in reading. Not so much in Atlantic City yet, but we are going to see the rain picking up in our shore communities as we head into the afternoon. Even into the overnight hours and lingering into the morning. Heres where the rainfall is right now. Were seeing rain moving in to parts of phillipsburg also holland. As we head into the rest of today and this morning, on and off showers are expected. These arent going to be heavy downpours. This is light rainfall thats going to move through our region through the rest of today and lingering into tonight. Mainly if youre closer to the central and southern parts of delaware and also along the shore, thats where the heavier rain is going to be and its going to last the longest, but we are seeing all this moisture moving in from the west. Its ahead of a cold front thats going to help drop our temperatures heading into today, and also monday and tuesday. But by 5 00 p. M. This is what i was talking about. Most of the rain is going to be situated south of the i95 corridor and linger into the overnight hours, and as we head into tomorrow morning. A military keepsake worn by their father during world war ii. Warren mcaulie wore the bracelet while fighting in italy back in the 40s. Warren died years ago, but his memory couldnt be stronger this holiday season. Heres what happened. During the war, a little girl found the bracelet in a small italian town. She kept it by her bed for 70 years until she gave it to her son. He noticed the faded military numbers on it linked it to the mcaulies and sent it back to the states. Warren mcaulies wife received the bracelet just in time for christmas. Oh jeez. Its come back to us. Warren mcaulie was a member of the 10th Mountain Division which helped knock germany off the peaks of italy.
