Lower providence norristown, Plymouth Meeting across 76 and 476. Very heavy rain a lot of lightning in this area. So be very cautious if you are in this area you really want to seek shelter with this storm. It is severe. Monday is the start of june and also the start of Hurricane Season. And this year we can expect below average activity. Of the possible hurricanes two or fewer may become major storms of category 3 or higher. We wanted to bring in our expert here. Nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn hurricane schwartz. Whats your take on this . You said its inactive. Yeah, expected to be inactive in all of the forecasts that have come out so far for this Hurricane Season. Have been for a relatively inactive season. And the main reason for that the el nino developing in the tropic pacific. Its an extremely strong one. May end up being one of the strongest ever. And what el nino does is suppresses hurricanes in the atlantic. It increases them in the pacific. There are other factors, too, that are negative. There are higher pressures in the caribbean than usual. And water temperatures are colder than normal. Theres also more ash and dust coming off of africa. So all of the major things that we look at to tell us about Hurricane Season are all suggesting weak season. But 1992 was a weak season too. We had hurricane andrew, one of the worst in history.
