Chris christie has events there tonight and Hillary Clinton is planning to visit New Hampshire next week. Joining us now to talk about it and other news from the Campaign Front is chuck todd moderator of nbcs meet the press. Thank you for joining us. You got it. Governor christie first, hes on the campaign trail. He says he hasnt decided to run. Whats the buzz on his plans . Look i think hes finding, he wants to run. Hes trying to find a way into the race. I dont think he wants to be don qiote about this and be embarrassed in the race. Its fascinating to watch him this week. I feel as if the decision by him to go out and be bold in his mind and in the mind of some voters on the issue of Social Security and say, you know what, this needs to be done im going to be the tough talking, straight talking guy, and im willing to campaign on unpopular things. That to me is a bit of a hail mary in this respect. The issue of Social Security and the solvency is an issue that matters to donors to a lot of big republican donors. Its not an issue that matters a lot of voters. And that tells me, hes looking to try to convince donors give him the chance to run a campaign campaign. Hell do this type of campaign. And i think hes hoping by rolling this out that more Financial Support will come rolling in because i think hes struggling on that front. And with the limit on how can qualify qualify. I think its been muted. Hes gotten where some people on the right, even some fellow candidates not wanting to sign under the specifics. No one wants to own the specifics of Something Like that. Why . Because the most likely voter is an older voter. They vote in greater numbers are more likely to show up and even in primary numbers. And i think nobody wants to own okay, yes, im for raising the Social Security to 69 and im for doing all these things. I think youre going to find other candidates shy away from getting a specific as christie is. Hell get general praise i think from some on the right. Criticism from some on the left. But, i think youll see nobody fully embrace what hes doing. Yeah good point on them waiting. As mentioned here Hillary Clintons going to mention next week. Since she entered the race last weekend, how have potential voters responded . Well she hasnt had a lot of interaction with potential voters. And she gave herself an opportunity, i thought, to have a lot more unscripted moments. And she didnt do it. Driving to hey seemed like a great opportunity for her to have truly unscripted moments outside of the bubble that she lives in thanks to the secret Service Protection and all of that. And she never used that opportunity. So i thought it was a missed opportunity. And the events that she ended up doing in iowa felt very staged and felt very scripted. So, i think, if shes trying to project an image of being more accessible. And these do project that image, i think particularly in New Hampshire, theres going to be an expectation of truly being unscripted and off the cuff and accessible. And i think thats a work in progress to be honest. Well see how much she engages later on. Chuck todd thank you for joining us. And as always thank you for your insight. Be sure to watch meet the press this sunday morning at 10 30 right here on nbc 10. A major federally funded beach replenishment project is underway in cape may county. Dredged sand is being pumped ashore to widen beaches and reconstruct dunes including those in ocean citys south end. Its part of the states massive post sandy effort to construct a full Coastal Protection system to make beaches more resilient to future storms. Its really rewarding to see it. Its been a long time coming. Never before for the entire coast of new jersey are we going to have a full comprehensive plan. And thats what we have now. The beaches will be reconstructed over the next few months. But not every shore town is getting a beach upgrade. And its not sitting well with many homeowners. One community is fighting the plan to widen beaches and build protective sand dunes following superstorm sandy. Margate is against the plan and as a result beaches arent being bolstered to neighboring towns. The main reason here margate leaders say the beach replenishment will not protect homes. And they believe itll be expensive for Property Owners to maintain. Officials and residents have been fighting the states beach plan for years.
