Investigators say Franklin Township Police Officer Nicholas Locilento responding to an emergency in his police car struck and killed the child. Witnesses say they did not see flashing Police Lights or hear the siren. I just cant say the words right now. My heart goes out to them. School officials have scheduled grief counseling sessions. In bucks county, a resident shot a man who police say brokeapartmented and touched himself inappropriately last night. Suarez nedero in critical condition. He faces burglary and assault charges. A woman in the first apartment found him touching himself on her balcony. Police say she took her dog and crawled out of a window into a second apartment. Thats when a resident inside that second apartment shot him. What he was looking for were not really sure but one homeowner, he confronted one homeowner who stood his ground and fired twice, shooting hitting him both times. The resident who shot the intruder will not be charged with a crime. Winter break has actually become a perm narmt break for hundreds of Philadelphia Charter School students. The k through 8th graders wont be going back to the Walter Palmer Charter School. Randy gyllenhall is live. I can only now imagine parents scrambling to get their children enrolled somewhere else. This Charter School locked the doors in the middle of winter break. Teachers at the Walter Palmer Charter School pack up their books and colored pencils after learning that the classrooms are closing. And now theyre out of a job. What have they told you, anything . Nothing. We dont know anything. This school is good. Reporter the k through 8 Charter School is shutting down in the middle of winter break. Walter palmer Officials Say theres no other choice because theyre deep in debt owing millions to the School District of philadelphia. And theyve been on us since then. Weve been trying to work with them over the past year. Reporter the school tells nbc 10 theyve tried to work out a parmt plan but a payment plan but the district isnt cooperating and a recent court order is making them pony up 1. 5 million now. With that 1. 5 million judgment, thats what took us over the edge. This goes beyond the 1. 5 million. It clearly shows a financial situation, a mismanagement of finances in this Charter School. Reporter the School District says theres been a pattern of financial irregularities at Walter Palmer including almost 1 million in overbilling and 500,000 in unpaid retirement money. In total, the debt is pushing 6 million. This is a Charter School that was not working for students. This is one of the lowest performing Charter Schools in philadelphia that were in the middle of revocation. Reporter as for whats next Walter Palmer School Officials will look for other Charter Schools to enroll some of these kids. The School District of philadelphia is looking for traditional Public Schools but a lot of these students were trying to escape their neighborhood Public Schools, thats why they came here in the first place. Were following the latest developments on this fire that left hundreds of passengers stranded on a burning ferry. Tonight, rescuers believe theyve gotten everyone off of that boat. Crews had to battle bad weather, heavy smoke, just to rescue the 400 plus people on board. But ten others were killed. The ferry caught fire sunday morning during its journey from greece to italy. Passengers described a chaotic scene as they waited for help to arrive. The flames were huge. It was very scary to be honest. There was only one place you could stand. Officials say there ways discrepancy on the number of people on board that ferry and theyre checking now to see if anyone else is missing. Ten people are dead after a scaffold collapsed at one of beijings most prestigious high schools. Four other people were hurt. There were no reportsc of students being injured. In south florida, one person is dead and another critically hurt in this Helicopter Crash this morning. Doctors say the antiviral drug is in high demand and hard to find. Researchers expect the nationwide tamiflu shortage to last through february. This stems from an early, larger than usual demand for the drug. This years flu vaccine hasnt been as effective as the current strain. So more people who have been vaccinate ready still coming down with the flu. The drug cant cure the flu, it certainly does shorten the duration and ease symptoms for many patients. Investigators believe the plane is somewhere on the floor of the java sea. We know there was bad weather at the time of its disappearance. Experts say a storm alone not going to bring down a modern plane. But take that with mechanical error or pilot error and the results can be disastrous. We spoke yesterday with aviation expert arthur wolk he emphasized this technology has limitations. These storms are clearly visible on the radar, no issue about that. The issue then becomes are they so severe and close together even with the best radar you cant get around them or get over them . We do know the pilots of this plane asked for permission to fly above the storm but we also found out today that their request was denied. Air Traffic Control couldnt give them permission because six other planes were already in the air space. Today the ceo of airasia said he doesnt want to comment on changes that need to be made until investigators determine exactly what went wrong. We have a full investigation. We know what went wrong. We really cant speculate. We dont want to speculate until we find the aircraft, when we know what went wrong well look into it and see if we need to improve. At least 15 ships, 7 planes and 4 helicopters were out searching for wreckage today. The search has been suspended for the night there. Indonesia has now asked the u. S. Family members say 87yearold Petro Morales and 88yearold miriam vega died when flames ripped through a home on spruce street last night. Witnesses say the two were trapped inside the burning home. Investigators are still trying to figure out how that fire started. They say does not appear to be suspicious. An autopsy reveals that a man found dead in mantua creek accidentally dwoun lyly drown. A Police Officer found the body on the bank of a creek in gloucester township. Smith was seen leaving an inn, the telford inn in the morning. State senator tom carper toured the Claymont Fire Company today. Crews just finished remodeling here. The work took 14 months to complete. This has been a long time coming. It is something to see. It is well worth the wait and the agony through the construction. The remodeling project cost more than 2 million. Several penndot workers charged in an alleged scheme to rip off taxpayers face a judge in Montgomery County today. Three of the ten defendants appeared in court this morning. Authorities say they took kickbacks from highway inspectors in exchange for turning a blind eye to fraudulent time sheets and mileage reports. Two are former penndot managers and eight are contractors. One of the ten has not surrendered yet. Prosecutors say the scheme cost taxpayers 1. 3 million. May be getting a snowstorm in the Las Vegas Area in the next couple days. We have a winter storm watch. Clouds in at least parts of the area. Its been dry. This area of precipitation will keep an eye on it, right now not reaching the ground. It should be drying out overnight tonight. Down to 19 tonight in the poconos, 24 in allentown, 26 in reading and quakertown. 27 in doylestown 28 in norristown and trenton. Also in vineland near the freezing mark in far southern areas and also 29 in westchester and chester and glassboro. For new years eve it will be colder than that. By midnight 26 degrees, little bit of wind pushing the wind chill right around 20. But weve had a lot worse conditions than that. And new years day will be cold as well. The arctic air, the worst of the cold is not going to be coming here for a while. It may arrive at some point next week, but in the meantime we have a storm thats going to be developing on saturday and moving pretty quickly through the area.
