Were following breaking news this morning out northeaste northeastern pennsylvania. We learned there was a shooting in the Police Barracks in gooming grove in pike county. Nobody is in custody at this time. Were continuing to follow this story. We will bring the details to you. Now to some other news. Philadelphia high rise will be reduced to rubble. The queen lane apartments in germantown will be imploded. The Philadelphia Housing Authority owns the 16story building along the 300 block of queen lane in germantown. Its been there since 1955 but its coming down to make way for new housing. Nbc 10s Monique Braxton is live in germantown this morning as crews make final precipitatipar for the big event. An hour and a half ago they evacuated residents that live within a block of the high rise. The s. W. A. T. Team truck is there. Theyre here because s. W. A. T. Members are trained to deal with explosives and the aftermath of explosives. Also to the right you see that a tent is set up where dignitaries will be viewing the implosion. Whenever this happens in philadelphia its always a bit of nostalgia. The authorities come out. Theres a viewing ceremony. Caterers are in place to set up breakfast for the day. Im being joined by Michael Johns with the Philadelphia Housing Authority. Good morning, mr. Johns. Good morning. Show us how many residents are effected by the evacuation . A little over 100 individuals are being effected. And we started moving those individuals out around 4 30 this morning. And were hopeful we will get everyone out of their units or apartments by 6 00 a. M. How long will they be outside their home . I understand the im proegs occurs around 7 15. 7 15 on the dot, hopefully. But were hopeful that at the earliest, the residents will be able to return back to their houses at 10 00 a. M. And at the latest, around 5 00 p. M. A lot of dust expected in this area. Thats why . Well, just immediately around the site. We dont expect the dust to extend too far beyond a oneblock area. The winds are to the northeast today so there will maybe be a little bit more dusting on that direction. How have you checked the homes to make sure that the neighboring homes and communities are not physically effected . The pha staff along with our contractor, demolition contractor, has looked at each and every property that they believe may be effected in some way. So were taking extra precaution in some locations. Theyre boarding up some windows that may be effected. And sealing up some air conditioning that air conditioners that are in the windows and the like. Very early to have parents pull children out of their beds. It is. It is. But its really this time of day is really the safest time because there are not a lot of people on the street and so were hopeful that at 7 15 its still early. Were asking people not to come out to take a look at the implosion look at the implosion on the tv. Thats very hard for philadelphians. Thats true. That is true. That is true. New this morning, three men are in the hospital after they were stabbed inside a West Philadelphia home. Police were called to the house on the 900 block of north st. Bernard street around 3 15 this morning. Investigators tell us the men were stabbed with a machete. Right now theyre being treated at the hospital at the university of pennsylvania. We know that one of them is in critical condition. Two people are in custody. Philadelphia police are busy this morning. Theyre looking for the driver in a deadly hit and run. Nbc 10 was in knot philadelphia where police found the car abandoned. Nbc 10 was at 25th and allegheny where a victim, a man in his 50s, was struck and killed. A speeding rental car hit the victim. The impact threw the mans body into an oncoming vehicle. The driver of that car did stop to help. Also new this morning. One person is dead after a fire in south philadelphia. Nbc 10 was on the 2800 block of South Marshall street where fire crews began to battle the flames shortly after 10 00 last night. Its not known yet what started this fire and authorities have not identified the victims. Badly beaten and scheduled for surgery. Thats the fate of one of two men who were both attacked during a possible hate crime in philadelphia. It happened around 10 45 last night. Police say two gay men were assaulted by a group of men and women. A friend of a witness snapped this photo of police arriving to help the victim who was knocked unconscious. The victim set for surgery at the hospital suffered facial fractures and other injuries. Happening today in the new jersey casino crisis. Warning notices will go out to 3100 employees at the trump taj mahal in Atlantic City. They require two months notice of a companys plan to either shut down or issue a largescale layoff. The company filed for bankruptcy on tuesday. The casino could close in november. The tump plaza is scheduled to close on tuesday. The atlantic club, showboat, and revel have closed. The taj mahal will be the fifth of atlanta citys 12 casinos to close this year. A florida florida developer offered 12 million for revel another a bankruptcy auction. Experts say the solar system headed our way may affect power lines, radio transmissions, communication systems, and satellites to a small degree but they also say its nothing really to worry about. Two strong solar flares erupted from sun spots this past monday and wednesday. Scientists at the European Space agency have identified five locations on a comet where their spacecraft can land. The rosetta spacecraft is expected to attempt the landing in the middle of november. If this first of the kind landing is successful they will monitor the surface next august when the orbit approaches the sun. The information will be sent back to earth via radio signals.
