Man that they remember Michael Slagers south jersey connection stems here in Burlington County all of the way to the shore where he began a career of Public Service before attending the Police Academy in South Carolina. Neighbors say they remember a Young Michael slager who lived in this home with his stepmom playing ball and a game called jail break in mt. Laurel. To think that somebody out of this neighborhood could do Something Like that i just dont understand. A far different picture than we see in video making national headline, that of the South Carolina cop pulling the trigger and now charged with the murder of walter scott, an unarmed black man who was running away. Slager is a 2001 graduate of winipea high school. His classmates are sounding off on facebook. One childhood friend said quote, as a fellow coast guardsman and classmate, it is a shame to see violence committed unnecessarily that ends in death and ones life ends as he knows it. Not only as a cop, but a veteran. We hold ourselves to a better moral standard of behavior. Nbc 10 spent the day trying to track down slagers relatives across the region from south jersey to rural pennsylvania like the victim scott slager also served in the coast guard. He was a firefighter at port canaveral, and the cape may Training Facility confirmed slager was trained there, the only Training Facility of its kind in the United States and a once thriving south jersey location where slager waited tables after high school now crumbling. This murder charge seemingly doing the same to his current career. And we did reach out to administrators at the regional district for comments on slagers accomplishments in high school, but we can tell you they declined and they asked us to leave the property. The race for philadelphia mayor has led to a fight over funding and specifically Campaign Money and one canned adhas been fined and Deanna Durante is on the campaign trail, following the candidates and the controversy. Tell us what the disputes all about. Reporter well, its about money. Its about money that senator Anthony Williams was given as a state Senate Candidate and a mayoral candidate and he says hes the only candidate in the mayors race that has to follow two sets of Campaign Finance rules and his attorney tells me it was easier to pay the fine and move on so that williams can focus on the campaign issue. Im the only one who is a state official who had a state campaign as well as getting prepared to run for mayor, and im the only one that had to abide by two sets of rules. State senator Anthony Williams says an agreement with the city board of essix is the best outcome since the two continue to disagree over who is right when it comes to Campaign Finance accounting. The board and williams both agree that williams took contribution from some donors more than one. Williams said he had no limits on what he can accept but as a city candidate rules that limit how much he can take and from a single donor even if it was for another campaign as mayor. Some may say why not . Youre a longtime state politician, longtime Philadelphia Resident why not know these rules and have them straight . What was the confusion . I think it is a great question, but the rules changed. The ethics board said yes, the rules changed in 2014 and williams announced he would run for mayor in 2014. The rule changes actually modified an existing rule to create more options for candidates. They could have been worse for them. Worse in terms of having more money, thats correct. We did just get that interview with the ethics board in philadelphia. They tell us as to the Williams Campaign that it was the Williams Campaign that brought this issue to the ethics board that began looking at it and the ethics board tells us as well as the Williams Campaign that each side still disagrees on what was the right move here. However, if the Williams Campaign had taken that contribution and put it in a separate account and not spent it, we would not be here today. Williams says hes ready to go back to the issues because this one has been settled. Reporting live Deanna Durante, nbc 10 news. We started the week off with 75 degrees and well end the week with 75 or higher but in between, things have been pretty cold and damp. Weve got a damp night ahead. We have not been as wet during the day today, but i think well get wetter tonight and much warmer air moving in on friday and first alert for friday afternoon and that is why this is why, the thunderstorms, some ever them could be severe with damaging winds and also some hail with the briefly heavy rain. Its not going to be a long lasting rain event here. So the heavy rain thats less of a threat than lightning would be at least for a brief period of time. We have the threat of high wind relatively high and higher than the hail and certainly higher than the tornado threat during the day tomorrow and well keep you updated on this as the situation gets closer. Now you can see the cloudy skies out there, 42 degrees and the wind is out of the east. As long as its out of the east and it will stay cold and cloudy and its fairly uniform here in the low 40s. The average high is 62 and two years ago today it was 84. So there we are with the cold east wind and not far to the west and look at this. Its 81 in st. Louis and some of the warmer air moving this way and it will not be that hard to get to 80 at least in part of the area tomorrow for a brief period of time not much on the radar close by and a little bit of drizzle drops and then back to the west we have some severe storms in eastern ohio. Remnants of those coming over tonight and then we have more thunderstorms developing back in illinois. The tornado watch in effect even for chicago right now. The Severe Threat of a storm for friday and the highest risk is for the philadelphia area southward where the warmest air is going to come in and lets take a look in more detail where the warm air is coming. Here we are at 8 00 and temperatures were in the 40s and the showers start to come later tonight, but were still in the 40s. In the middle of the night, were still in the 40s, but theres more showers. By tomorrow morning and some possibly on the heavier side and 7 00 a. M. Were in the 40s and watch whats happening in dover. 71 degrees by 11 00 a. M. Southerly wind and that southerly wind comes in and this particular computer model gives philadelphia up to 80 and at the same time its 69 in allentown and then the thunderstorms come in and you can see, not a whole lot of the coverage. So maybe a small line or a few isolated storms but they have the potential for the Severe Weather conditions that we are talking about, damaging winds and most likely with this particular type of front. Now periods of rain developing tonight with rising temperatures in through the upper 40s in some places and then tomorrow a huge contrast from north to south. Lehigh valley to 82 in central and southern delaware. Those thunderstorms later in the day, showers early in the day. Then were set up for a beautiful weekend. It will be window saturday and the gusts to 25 miles an hour but gorgeous on sunday and then were mild to warm all of next week. Sounds good. Thank you, glenn.
