Beanie siegel whose real name was dwight grant was shot this morning after dropping his kids off at school. It happened in pleasantville, atlantic county. Youve been getting updates on siegels condition. Do we know whos behind the shooting . Not at this point, keith and rosemary. This area remains a crime scene, more than six hours after the shooting here. Beanie siegel underwent surgery today and is in Critical Condition, according to his lawyer who also believes whoever shot seeing was aiming for someone else. Its horrible, the whole thing is a tragedy. Reporter a cousin of beanie siegels wife was among the family members who came to the crime scene along spruce avenue in pleasantvillec after someon say someone shot and wounded the 40yearold rapper this morning. Its very sad. I ask that everybody keep our family in prayer and that he pulls through. Reporter police tell nbc 10 siegel whose real name is dwight grant, was shot once in the abdomen and it appears the bullet went out his back. Authorities say he was inside this home when officers arrived shortly before 9 30 a. M. But theyre not sure if he was shot there or outside. From the first appearance it would appear that there was some type of altercation next to that property. Reporter siegel was living in the spruce avenue home which is owned by the family of this man, 22yearold umar sala hudin. He was also shot but not hurt. Authorities tell me sulahudin provided few clues on what happened or who else was involved. We spoke to him, very limited information. Not cooperating . No, not at this point. Is that frustrating . Very. Reporter siegels lawyer tells nbc 10 the rapper was coming home after taking his kids to school when the shooting happened. The Attorney Says it appears siegel was not the intended target and got caught in the cross fire. Siegel was released from federal prison in august after serving a twoyear sentence for tax evasion. His probation is set to end this weekend. Authorities say he was wearing an ankle monitoring bracelet when someone gunned him down. I think its horrible. Any idea why it happened . Not at all. I have no idea. No idea. Now, police pursued a gray honda in connection with the shooting and took a man into custody for questioning after he jumped out of that car which ended up getting away. The hits just keep coming for embattled comedian bill cosby. Crews are cleaning up his star on the hollywood walk of fame after it was vandalized. Someone reportedly wrote the word rapist in three different places. He received a star in 1977. This happens after more then a dozen women have come forward accusing cosby of drugging and sexually abusing them. And today we learn the comedian is countersuing one of the alleged victims, accusing her of extortion. She claims cosby sexually asauled her at the playboy mansion when she was just 15 years old. Despite the claims cosby has never been charged with a crime. Developing in the last 45 minutes weve learned that thes will not file charges involving the Central Bucks High School football team. The season was canceled back in 0. David heckler says his office did not support any evidence that would support any criminal charges. Police say someone came into kensington urban high school with a gun around 10 00 this morning. Administrators put the school on lockdown but no one was hurt. And in south jersey, a 17yepold student is accused of bringing a bb gun to school. It happened yesterday morning at the Burlington County Special Services School in lumberton township. It resembled a real revolver, too. The suspect is in custody and is facing juvenile charges. No one was hurt. Nbc 10 is following new information about the future of the taj mahal casino in Atlantic City. The taj was set to close one week from today on december 12th. Today, casino owners announced the closing date has been pushed back to december 20th. Now the question is can the casino and its 3,000 jobs be saved . What are you hearing now that the closing date has changed . We reached out to unite here local 54 which has made noise the last two months after keeping Health Care Benefits but they responded today with three words, were not commenting on the eightday extension to keep the casino set to close next friday open until december 20th. Police police say theyve broken up an organized krhme ring that cheated local banks out of tens of thousands of dollars. Nbc 10 in West Philadelphia this morning as Police Reveal the details of the crimes. Investigators say Raymond Starr recruited people with existing Bank Accounts and talked them into opening new checking accounts. Starr then deposited bad checks into those accounts and later withdrew money. The alleged scheme cost one bank 30,000. He was able to deposit a check for 5,000, they would come back immediately, withdraw the money and later on the check would bounce like a basketball. Therefore, the bank would be out that particular money and Raymond Starr would deposit the money into his own pocket. The arresting officers also found drugs, guns and money in starrs home. Police warn there could be more arrests. Local students bailed out of class today so their voices could be heard. Theyre protesting two highprofile cases involving the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of white Police Officers. Nbc 10s Randy Gyllenhall was there as the students stage their demonstration. While part of the protests were vocal, some of it was in complete silence. Reporter keith and rosemary, high schools across the city held similar protests, some students choosing to march loudly, others choosing to sideline thely lie down in the middle of their hallways. All of these students say theyre standing up against police brutality. On most days, the hallways in philadelphia high schools are loud and bustling but for 4 1 2 minutes this afternoon, complete silence. Students staging a diein, lying on the ground to symbolize the deaths of two black men killed by police. Letting a Police Officer after they commit crimes, that just needs to be examined more and Police Officers should be treated like regular citizens and not above the law. I cant breathe reporter protesting for eric garner, the Staten Island man who died after being put in a chokehold. Everyone feels it is injust. We realize its not going to take a bunch of people just with sad feelings to make it change. Were going to take more protesting, activism, leaders. Reporter throughout these protests young people have made up the core movement. For them this is a civil rights issue. They believe police often abuse their power, usually against young black men. I think at the moment what people want is to be heard. They want to be heard. They want to know someone is listening. Reporter students, too, say they respect Law Enforcement but often feel targeted, especially as a black male teenager in a large american city. I definitelyfully there are police that dont think that black lives matter. I think its more important that people are aware that all police arent like that. Now, it is above freezing in allentown and reading, not by a whole lot but the temperature should not be dropping significantly overnight. For some freezing rain, carbon and monroe counties, precipitation now is not very heavy at all. Theres more back to the west that will be moving in. Those temperatures are below freezing. You can see theres a lot more rain back to our west and it continues to go back to ohio and indiana and illinois. Thats a ton of rain headed this way. Yes, its going to be pretty wet over the next 24 hours or a little bit more. Here comes some more rain as we go through the night tonight, the computer model may actually be underdoing it, especially from the philadelphia area southward. On saturday, here comes some of the heavier rain, especially during the afternoon and then at night. Look at that. It becomes pretty widespread across the area and some of it on the heavier side. It does move out by sunday morning. However, that storm thats producing the rain on saturday night is going to move offshore but as weve been saying the last few days, it looks like its going to be coming back and turning into the noreaster as that famous european computer model first indicated a few days ago. Weve been telling you about this and having it in the forecast. And the other Solutions Going out to sea is not going to happen. Heres tuesday and its going to rain. Then it may change to snow in some parts of the area. But in between the storms, thats when the eagles get to play. Its cold and its a little bit on the windy side. But at least its dry. A rescue group in mississippi found peggy first. They took her to a shelter in nantucket. Thats because animals are easier to place from nantucket. The fire started just before 10 00 this morning on agnus avenue in folsom. Everybody inside made it out safely. Despite the firefighters efforts, you can see the house is heavily damaged. Police have charged the father of a little boy who accidentally shot himself. Anthony grave surrendered at New Castle County police headquarters. His 2yearold son shot himself in the head back in september. Police said the boy was at home with his mother and somehow got ahold of the gun. The boy is still being treated at the hospital but is said to be making progress. Authorities charged his father with endangering the welfare of a child, among other charges. Wilmington police tell us a paint ball gun was the weapon of choice for a group of teenagers trying to rob people. Police say the teens tried to hold up three people near 8th and North Franklin streets on wednesday night. When they didnt get anything, the teens took off. Officers later captured and arrested them. Detectives also tell us they recovered the pain the ball gun. The suspects a three boys ages 14, 15 and 16. And a 15yearold girl. Authorities hope you can track down a pair of thieves. The two stole about 3,000 worth of cosmetics from a cvs pharmacy in after avondale last night. Five years in state prison, a judge handed that sentence down to a Camden County car salesman for an Insurance Fraud scheme. This is nbc 10 news. A new study out reveals how much your life can be shortened by excess weight. Researchers looked at 4,000 people and they found that being overweight could potentially cost somebody three years of their life. And that very obese people could die as many as eight years early. Obesity related illnesses like Heart Disease and diabetes could take away almost two decades of healthy living. Positive news now in the fight against Violent Crime in the keystone state. Pennsylvania state Police Released a new report that reveals the number of crimes reported in pennsylvania has fallen for the Third Straight year. In fact in 2013 the number of vial enthe crimes reported by police declined 5. 8 from the previous year. Heres a closer look at the breakdown. The crimes in 2013 murders were down nearly 14 from 706 to 611. The number of reported rapes increased about 12 . On the other hand, robberies, burglaries and assaults were all down from the year before. The report doesnt explain the reasoning for an increase or decrease in any particular crime. The temperature is 29 there but its above freezing everywhere else. We dont expect the temperatures to drop below freezing in any other areas. You can see its already near 50 degrees in Atlantic City. Warmer air trying to get in. Just a little bit of patchy, light freezing rain in the poconos now. Theres more precipitation back out in central pennsylvania as that moves into 29 degree air, it freezes on some of the surfaces. And theres plenty more moisture to come in as we go through the night tonight and into tomorrow. Now, the futurecast showing the rain but probably underestimating the area at least thats going to be affected. I would say that you have to consider the rain threat throughout the night and the day tomorrow regardless of what this particular map says, although it may not be as wet tomorrow morning as its likely to be tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow night. This computer model does catch up with the rain for later tomorrow and tomorrow evening. And some of that on the heavy side as you can see, thats when i expect the heaviest, tomorrow evening. Then we start clearing out later at night. So this is the storm thats going to produce the heavier rain on saturday night. It moves out, clearing us out for sunday, High Pressure builds in.
