Like that happening to a daughter of mine. And to have to go through that, yeah, like thats very painful. Its painful to hear, painful to watch. I mean, its just horrible. And to think that my daughter is being accused of it, yes, its even more so. I was also able to ask her sister a few questions. Im working on that part of the story coming up on nbc 10 news at 5 00. Back to you. Lets go back to what happened in the courtroom today. What happened on the witness stand . Reporter well, today the prosecution called a special victims unit detective who investigated this case. And he testified on the witness stand he was searching for the victims dna evidence inside ragusters home. He said they were not able to find that evidence, but he did believe that christina ragusters had a floor rug that may have had evidence on it but the ragusterses may have then that away before police investigated and searched that home. Reporting live at the criminal justice center, christine maddela, nbc 10 news. 20 minutes of nonstop news continues now with this. The woman punched in this video at an Atlantic City casino is sharing her side of the story now. Ray rices wife says no one knows the pain the newly released video is causing her and her family. And janae rice says she still loves her husband who was fired from the ravens yesterday after the video from the revel casino went public. Nbc 10 south jersey reporter cydney long is live in mays landing. Sydney, i know youve been trying to get answers from the prosecutor and judge in Atlantic County about how this case was handled especially in light of the new video that came out yesterday. Reporter that is correct. It has now been 33 hours since the elevator assault of janae palmer surfaced yesterday. Her being punched by her then fiance ray rice. We have not given up since trying to find out how he qualified for the lenient program known as pretrial intervention. Today we went knocking on two doors right here next door the Prosecutors Office as well as the Atlantic County courthouse and that office that oversees the lenient program. Whether or not politic county prosecutor jim mclean actually laid eyes on the telling Surveillance Footage of janae palmer being knocked to the elevator floor is what weve been asking his office for two days straight. Today being told the prosecutor and his Public Information officer were not in the building. He emailed me about 20 minutes ago. Hes not in can you please stop recording . Reporter what we learned from the Criminal Division manager who oversees pretrial intervention is that ultimately three parties, the prosecutor, the pti coordinator and the judge in this case all weigh in on granting the program an alternative to jail time to any defendant, rice included. And that victims like janae palmed in this case are consulted. A pti coordinator would only confirm her office did not view either video, and that rice has to undergo anger management, report to a probation officer, and must stay gainfully employed to complete the program. The reality is it happens every day in new jersey and throughout this country. Reporter assemblyman joe cryan told us by phone hes been working on legislation long before the video surfaced to stiffen the guidelines for pt irk and says the initial aggravated assault charge by a grand jury would have eliminated rice if it were already law. I dont want to rush to judgment because this is a societal issue more farreaching than ray rice. To me its about the focus of the victim. Reporter the criminal complex here has been crawling with both local and National Media today, but still no sign of the prosecutor jim mclean. Also last night assemblywoman mascara, who represents both camden and gloucester counties, is also calling for changes to that pti program. But governor christie says right now is not the time to change the law, not unless and until emotions in this case settle down. Live in mays landing, cydney long, nbc 10 news. Devastated. Reporter word of the taj mahals possible shutdown quickly spread among its loyal customers. We love it here. Weve been coming here for about 20 years. Its a shame. A real shame. Reporter nbc 10 obtained this internal memo which went out this morning to taj mahal employees, warning them that without significant expense reductions the casino is expected to close on or shortly after november 13. Taushi and his wife both work at the taj. The threatened shutdown came the same day that Trump Entertainment Resorts filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The taj mahals sister casino, trump plaza, is set to close one week from today. In its filing, the company indicated a taj closure was likely if it doesnt receive costcutting concessions from union workers. I dont think the casinos going to close. I believe that the Trump Organization is trying to capitalize on the fear of workers in Atlantic City to get concessions that no other casino in the city has even considered. Reporter faced with nearly 300 million in debt and an inability to pay its loans, Union Leaders believe the company will soon be taken over by its lenders. No one is willing to give up their health care and their retirement so people who have mismanaged the property into the ground get a few more months of salary. We have cool weather at the shore as well with that wind out of the northeast. And we continue to see problems at the shore. We have a Coastal Flood Advisory that goes through 2 00 p. M. Tomorrow. We have a high risk of rip current problems at the shore tonight and into tomorrow. And the wind and the Cool Conditions dont make it any more pleasant. The bulk of the rain is offshore, but were starting to see more of that east to west flow with some showers moving in from the ocean. And so its going to be wet at times right at the shore. Jersey and into delaware beaches, a little bit inland. But may not go too far inland tonight or into tomorrow. As you can see, the futurecast cloud are thickest at the shore, rain chances higher at the shore, winds are stronger at the shore. This is not the kind of pattern thats real pleasant. And fortunately we havent had a whole lot of that during the summer, or else it would not have been such a great summer. Tomorrow we break up the clouds a bit and see a little sunshine in the afternoon. Then on thursday we start off dry and then a cold front approaches from the west bringing some showers well north and west early in the afternoon, but the front comes through later in the day and into the evening with perhaps a line of showers and perhaps some thunderstorms as well. Then that goes down to the south on friday, comes right back up on saturday. This is one of those patterns where the front just goes back up north and south, and every other day we have a threat of rain. Tonight the threat of rain is mostly through the south and east. Toward the jersey shore, delaware beaches, the rest of the area just pretty much clouds. 64 in philadelphia, 58 north and west. There might be a few breaks allowing the temperatures to get down there. Cloudy in the morning, some sun in the afternoon. So the temperature will get up into the upper 70s. It could hit 80 degrees in some spots to get a little bit more sunshine mainly north and west. Then everybody gets warmer on thursday ahead of that front. Could be close to 90 degrees with high humidity. Thunderstorms late in the day or at night. Then we cool down and dry out friday. The rain comes back saturday.
