Of flames in east baltimore, a church built Senior Center engulfed in a fire that burned out of control. Its crazy. Thats all i can say is crazy. I dont have any words for it. Reporter looters rioters and vandals flooded the streets. They set police cars on fire. Attacked officers with rocks, bottles and bricks and destroyed businesses. A cvs store looted and torched. The mall saw breakouts of violence that shut it down. Too many people have spent generations building up this city for it to be destroyed by thugs. Reporter police in riot gear tried to restore calm. Reporter authorities declined to connect the violence to the death of freddie gray while in police custody. Grays funeral overshadowed by crowds of rioters erupting in the streets. Philadelphia police say 14yearold Sahmir Walker is charged with murder and his 15yearold neighbor kyquail duffy with aggravated assault and related offenses. Tomorrow jurors will begin hearing testimony in the trial of james holmes. Prosecutors and Defense Attorneys gave their Opening Statements today. Holmes is accused of shooting and killing 12 people during the midnight premiere of a batman movie. 70 other people were hurt in that attack. Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The pennsylvania Supreme Court reinstated the child endangerment conviction of philadelphia monsignor william lynn. The high court upheld lynns 2012vn conviction for endangering an altar boy. That was vijt that victim was abused by a priest who had been transferred to his parish despite earlier complaints. Hes been on arrest ever since the conviction was thrown out in 2013. This decision could send him back to prison. More trouble tonight for Pennsylvania Attorney general kane. This after a monthgomery county judge unsealed details of a grand jury investigation today. The report alleges ka nerks firene fired a prosecutor in her office out of retaliation, arguing the firing for office restructuring. Prosecutor in question was one of a handful of witnesses who testified against kane saying she leaked details of a grand jury investigation. Doesnt look retaliatory at all. Thrown bricks at police vehicles. And looted stores. 15 officers have been injured. Baltimore city schools are closed tomorrow. And the National Guard has been called in to restore order. See behind me, a full length of riot officers who set up a perimeter for half a block in every direction around this police station. And, of course very calm situation here compared to what happened not far away. It was about 7 40 in the area of north fulton and west north street where a large contingent of riot police were already stationed at one end. But at the other end, there was insurrection. Windows were broken. At least one car was set afire. And all this while traffic sped through, people just simply trying to get out of the way. The first effort to quell the violence actually came from a group called the 300. These are a group of men who have often been on the wrong side of the law, but a return to these very same streets in the name of peace. Shortly after they met up with some of the folks who were in the midst of some of the destruction, things calmed down. Right behind them was a full length of riot police. They held the street as they do now. Before we left this area earlier today to go over to north fulton in that general area we talked to a woman who said this is all pointing to a deepseeded frustration. I can definitely understand it. I do not condone it, but i definitely understand the aggression that my people are feeling right now. Ive lived here all my life and ive seen so much. Ive seen more than i should have to see. And kids are growing up and theyre seeing more than ive seen. Can you imagine, can you sympathize with these children and these young adults that are witnessing this and living in this . Any of the suburbs in new jersey or even north and west of philadelphia closer to philadelphia, anywhere around 49 degrees. But well be warming quickly as we go through the day. Little bit warmer than today. Locally, we have the clouds breaking up. Nothing really in the way of rain thats going to stay to the north. Then another area of rain way down to the south. This is the one well be watching as we go through the rest of the week. Big area of moisture in the gulf of mexico and looks like from what many models are showing this is going to organize and move up the eastern seaboard and ultimately become a coastal storm or noreaster for some.
